@gregkodysz For what it's worth, I'm am experienced guitarist (have been playing for 8 years) and I picked up the cello a year ago. While there are other factors that go into the equation besides my being a guitarist, I've been progressing quickly on the cello and love playing it. If you have a good ear and want to pick up the cello, why not?
playing the cello can be difficult at first and the strings might hurt your fingers at first but after a while it wont hurt and if your really dedicated to can be really great at playing cello. i have been playing cello for about 6 years and i love it so much, i couldnt imagine my life without my cello :)
This is perhaps the most beautiful thing that has fallen upon my ears in all my life and the only music I can actually become enveloped in. So calming and enchanting, dark and mysterious, sweet but sorrowful. I praise the day the magnificent masterpiece came into being. Merci.
this piece has the form ( and the spirit , I think) of an ouverture alla francesa, hence its movement should be jumpy and majestic...each and every cello player performs it as a romantic prelude.
maybe just vito paternoster reaches this more dynamic and orchestral baroque approaching.
Mstislav Rostropovich and Jacqueline du Pre are the two most respected celloist of all times. They will be missed (even though I never was born to see du Pre in action).
I find it very moving that this master's passionate prelude to the C minor suite opens with a shot of Christ carrying the cross behind his cello. It is a symbolic gesture, or perhaps a coincidence - either way, this music is divine. Slava's playing was so romantic, so glorious, and full of humanity.
May we long have imagination as this great species of humanity.

I hear vibrato but his fingers are still... can someone please explain how this is possible?
C0urante 2 years ago 3
i believe he played a harmonic, which can make a tremor that sounds like vibrato due to the finger's contact with the string
