This beautiful carol does not need this new tune & arrangement. I don't think this new version can hold a candle to the classic melody, which is distinctive and memorable. This one isn't.
Is this just done so contemporary artists can get royalties on songs that are already in the public domain?
@WildeNotesMusic , THis is actually the original arrangement, It is a civil war era carol that others have changed over time to make it fresh and new, and it has since morphed into the carol we hear today on the radio. In this case I think getting back to the original arrangement is quite refreshing. :). Thanks for your comments and Merry Christmas :)
@jagzier@WildeNotesMusic - Sara Groves is a sincere believer and has an amazing talent at singing and songwriting. There are many who would never give the traditional arrangement a second thought if it weren't for people like her breathing new life into old songs.

And you beneath life's crushing load
Whose forms are bending low
Who toil along the weary way
With painful steps and slow
Look now! For glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing.
Oh rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing.
