r32 and vette are in two different classes and german cars cannot be compared to american muscle cars. they both have two different purposes. american cars = drag racing, german cars for the track.
both cars have the same purpose, to transport people from A-B, your right though, they are in different classes, the German cars have better build quality (my opinion), it might be a muscle car but with a V8 and 415hp it should kill the r32 which has a V6 265hp but fails, i guess we could call our bugatti veyron a muscle car and bmw M5/M3 mercedes mclaren or the car that beats all easily is the italian made barabus TKR with 270mph top speed, Germans can make muscles cars too, not just the US

You can't race magazines, or Dyno's. Fact is, the C6 is a $40 to 80k car, it's mentally challenging to track it as accident.
You can't honestly sit here and say that a chassis designed for FWD car is better suited for the track than a purpose built, completely hydroformed chassis in the Corvette. The Vette even has better lateral grip than the AWD R32. C6 driver either didn't want to really sling it though the corners, or I'm going with he just didn't know how.
yea isnt the vette a lot lighter too..im gonna say mybe 200lbs to 300lbs lighter than the r32...again so many ignorant dudes thinking that american cars are shit on the track..but keep in mind the Z06 and the new 2008 Viper arent slouches on any track..if anything they are the best value for the supercar buyer

The C6 driver must have been crap as my C5 ate a VW Golf R32 alive on the road and it was wet. I went past him like his was standing still. He was trying because he put a couple of cars lenghts on me through the tight corner.

Nice driving prelude! I was there in Nov also with the R32 group. You must have been in the instructor or advanced group to pull off those passes in the corners. What mods do you have? (Engine, Suspension, Tires, Brakes, etc) You on Vortex?
If the guy driving the C6 knew how to drive there would be 0 competition. Even though the R32 is AWD. It just does not have the lower center of gravity. the engine double the size making double the horsepower at stock, or nearly as much rubber on the road.
Yeah, probably closer to 150 assuming he has no mods. You could see how he pulled me in the straights and places like turn 1 where torque wins the game. Just couldn't push it in the technical portions like I did.
corvette is 3245 lbs. r32 is 3409 lbs, so 200 pounds less with almost 200 more horsepower, and a superior chassis design and aerodynamics. corvette definitely had the advantage. good driving to the r32.
you think a corvette has a superior chassis design to a Golf R32? obviously american...good driving still won't counter a 178bhp power disadvantage...
Unquestionably the corvette does have a better chassis for racing. 50/50 wieght distribution and RWD alone make it better. Please look up the lateral acceleration numbers of the two cars. No disrespect to VW but sports car chassis > FF compact chassis.
And yes, good driving vs. novice driving can counter a 178hp disadvantage. I've witnessed a Mini Cooper LAP an identical looking Mini Cooper within a single 20 minute session once. Please research the corvette's handling ability instead of just assuming it must be poor because of where the car was assembled. It is actually an impressive car.

It's fwd vs rwd, already a big advantage, and the 350z was made for the track, so let's be more realistic here. If I beat a 350z on the track I'd know its because of my mods/driver
I've owned 2 vw's and I completely agree that the corvette chassis is very well sorted. Especially the c6 vette.
And yes the r32 is loosely based on a fwd chassis but you'd be surprised at the many advancements over the fwd platform it has. For one it is fully independent rear while the fwd vw chassis is not.
True the r32 is rather portly and I know it weighs more then the c6 vette, there's no argument that the vette should beat it on a track, it was simply a video for fun, not for arguements

A. It cost less
B. It is AWD (and I'm in the snow belt)
C. I can stuff a ton of crap in the back of it
D. It's WAY more comfortable than the Vette

You can't race magazines, or Dyno's. Fact is, the C6 is a $40 to 80k car, it's mentally challenging to track it as accident.
You can't honestly sit here and say that a chassis designed for FWD car is better suited for the track than a purpose built, completely hydroformed chassis in the Corvette. The Vette even has better lateral grip than the AWD R32. C6 driver either didn't want to really sling it though the corners, or I'm going with he just didn't know how.

yea isnt the vette a lot lighter too..im gonna say mybe 200lbs to 300lbs lighter than the r32...again so many ignorant dudes thinking that american cars are shit on the track..but keep in mind the Z06 and the new 2008 Viper arent slouches on any track..if anything they are the best value for the supercar buyer

The Corvette driver was crap fo real. There was no way he shoulda let that R32 catch up. Im a vw fan, but im an even bigger vette fan. Plus the dude jus gave up and let him pass cuz he clearly coudnt handle. If you watch he was timid on some corners he could've powerslided through. He wasnt being competitive at all. Give me the damn vette I'll run circles around everyone!! lol! jk

The C6 driver must have been crap as my C5 ate a VW Golf R32 alive on the road and it was wet. I went past him like his was standing still. He was trying because he put a couple of cars lenghts on me through the tight corner.

Nice driving prelude! I was there in Nov also with the R32 group. You must have been in the instructor or advanced group to pull off those passes in the corners. What mods do you have? (Engine, Suspension, Tires, Brakes, etc) You on Vortex?

If the guy driving the C6 knew how to drive there would be 0 competition. Even though the R32 is AWD. It just does not have the lower center of gravity. the engine double the size making double the horsepower at stock, or nearly as much rubber on the road.

Yeah, probably closer to 150 assuming he has no mods. You could see how he pulled me in the straights and places like turn 1 where torque wins the game. Just couldn't push it in the technical portions like I did.

corvette is 3245 lbs. r32 is 3409 lbs, so 200 pounds less with almost 200 more horsepower, and a superior chassis design and aerodynamics. corvette definitely had the advantage. good driving to the r32.

Unquestionably the corvette does have a better chassis for racing. 50/50 wieght distribution and RWD alone make it better. Please look up the lateral acceleration numbers of the two cars. No disrespect to VW but sports car chassis > FF compact chassis.

And yes, good driving vs. novice driving can counter a 178hp disadvantage. I've witnessed a Mini Cooper LAP an identical looking Mini Cooper within a single 20 minute session once. Please research the corvette's handling ability instead of just assuming it must be poor because of where the car was assembled. It is actually an impressive car.

=/ I have a new gti, and stock its not going to kill a 350z at all, modded it has a much better chance but that depends on the driver of both cars, and on the track let's face it, the 350z is in another class compared to the gti... It's fwd vs rwd, already a big advantage, and the 350z was made for the track, so let's be more realistic here. If I beat a 350z on the track I'd know its because of my mods/driver

I've owned 2 vw's and I completely agree that the corvette chassis is very well sorted. Especially the c6 vette.
And yes the r32 is loosely based on a fwd chassis but you'd be surprised at the many advancements over the fwd platform it has. For one it is fully independent rear while the fwd vw chassis is not.
True the r32 is rather portly and I know it weighs more then the c6 vette, there's no argument that the vette should beat it on a track, it was simply a video for fun, not for arguements
