Hey man...you did some good research, maybe you could have gone into more detail. Either way you're on your way to being an educated sports fan unlike the ignorant retards ripping you apart in the comments section.
If you want to try another one, how about what do you think would have happened if the Portland Trail Blazers had selected Michael Jordan with the 2nd pick of the 1984 NBA draft instead of picking Sam Bowie...would there have been a Blazers dynasty instead? who would the bulls pick?
you are very knowledgable....I was right there...during this..and your seriously accurately.....your hypothesis...is so right on...you should be a sports reporter on ESPN......I am serious....
Here is my five cents... a team like the Broncos who had a really good quarterback in John Elway, should have drafted Ryan Leaf... mabye then Elway could have brought out the best in Leaf? Just a thought
No matter what team Ryan Leaf would have gone to, he would have been a bust regardless. He could never handle the pressure of being an NFL player. If Leaf went to the Colts instead of the Chargers, I guarantee you he would have been gone from that team after his first season. Ryan Leaf showed everyone that no matter how good you may be, there will always be questions of character on players entering the draft.
KID,WHAT THE HELL DO YOU KNOW?RYAN LEAF IS A LEGEND AND HE PROUDLY REPRESENTS AMERICAN FAILURE. CRYING RYAN.PLEASE ELECT HIM TO THE HALL OF SHAME REPRESENTING THE CITY OF SAD DIEGO....
Leaf, on the other hand, was a jerk off. He would have been better with Indy than San Diego though because Tom Moore (Indy's OC) doesn't take shit from anyone. He's a badass 82-year-old. He still would have been a below-average QB however.
Good vid lil homie dont worry bout the haters. Im impressed you know what you do bein so young. I think it might've ended up more or less the same if not Peyton being even more successful wit the Chargers. Ryan Leaf jus wasnt gonna go anywhere wit his maturity level
The difference between the two players is night and day. Some guys just aren't cut out for the NFL....Bosworth, Mandarich, Rick Mirer and Leaf were all great in college, but horrible as pro's. Leaf signed to a 31.25 million dollar deal with an eleven million dollar signing bonus, but threw a tantrum at a Sushi Bar when the team (as a right of passage) stuck him with the bill. He fought with fans, reporters and had constant on and off field issues. He's seen as THE biggest bust of all time.
If Manning would have went to San Diego and Leaf to Indy, SD would have been multiple Super Bowl champs and a possible dynasty, while the Colts and Leaf would have continued to be an NFL doormat, not gotten a new stadium, and would have been the next NFL team in Los Angeles. I don't think many NFL fans outside of Indiana realize that Peyton Manning literally saved this franchise for Indianapolis. If he hadn't come along and starting winning games, this team wouldn't be in Indianapolis now.
As much as I hate the Colts as a Pats fan, Manning was a full grown man in college. He was never a kid. Leaf didn't grow up quick enough. He is still a college kid in mindset. That's the difference, the rest is NFL history.
As you stated, one of the more critical things to consider would have to be the coaching staff.
In the years to come, Bill Polian and Jim Mora built around their investment in Manning, drafting Edgerrin James the next year, as well as Reggie Wayne and Dominic Rhodes in the years to come. No doubt they would've done the same with Ryan Leaf. -continued-
San Diego on the other hand didn't seem much too concerned with building around Leaf and if they did; Bobby Beathard's dismissal of Super Bowl coach Bobby Ross and his ENTIRE staff shot that chance down. Kevin Gilbride replaced Bobby Ross and left along with Leaf in 2000.
Had Peyton Manning been drafted by San Diego, no doubt he might have experienced similar bumps yet even with his leadership skills, there is only so much 1 player can do.
Good stuff. I'm a Charger fan and I think that we've put Ryan Leaf behind us and I love Phillip Rivers... We just need some running game now. But overall we San Diegans look at Peyton Manning and wish for a time machine so we could change the past and make him one of us. Good video!
man, chargers would have won like 4 superbowls with payton if that woulda happened. they have great receavers and they had a young L.T that would have been SICK! Ryan Leaf just plan sucked. Leaf if the biggest draft bust of all time
@icantthinkofaname335 is the chargers had drafted peyton then they would have never had the chance to get LT but i do agree the charger would have won atleast 2 superbowl with peyton
@coltsfan188785 The LT deal was done when SD traded their number one draft pick with Atlanta. The Falcons got Vick and the Chargers got LT and Reche Caldwell. That was in 01' and the Peyton Manning draft was in 98'
@justentime77 yeah the chargers would have never had that pick to trade if they had peyton manning they would have been 1 of the best teams in the nfl and definaly not worst so like i said if the chargers got peyton they would have never had gotten LT
@coltsfan188785 Good point. As great as LT was I think I would have preferred having Manning, although they did get Brees and eventually Rivers so I can't really complain.
Maybe i misheard you .. did you say "Ryan Leaf seemed like a very very mature guy" at 3:40?? He went out partying in Vegas the night he got drafted .. that was a red flag right there.
The Chargers didn't have the 2nd draft pick, the Cardinals did. Then the Chargers gave two 1st round picks (which became Andre Wadsworth and David Boston), a 2nd round pick and Pro Bowler Eric Metcalf to move up in the draft board.
How is leaf a legend people?? He is a bust for sure. He's like Ja'marcus Russell who was just released by Oakland. Both have a good arm and were stars in college but both were too lazy to make it to meetings and camps. You got to work in this league.
Ryan Leaf still would of been a bust with the Colts cause, Ryan Leaf is lazy ass bastard who couldn't throw a TD to save his life. And Peyton Manning is a hard worker. PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
It was actually 15 passes. Here's some more research. If Ryan Leaf was drafted by the Dolts he woulda done what John Elway did cause he didn't wanna play 4 them either. 4ce a trade. The real what if is the Cardinals didn't try to win at the end of the 1997 or the 2003 season? They coulda gotten either Manning. Could they have won a SB in Zona?
Colts would have canned him after 2 years and eventually ended up with Drew Brees. Colts would probably look a lot different from now. But lets get serious you think that Colts being as conservative as they are would take Ryan Leaf over Manning in what world would that happen because not in this world.
exactly Leaf was never really considered for the #1 pick, Bill Polian has even said this. The only reason Leaf was looked at was so that the Colts could negotiate a lower contract with Manning.
And he is not as good as Peyton Manning? Obviously you didnt see him play, and/or live through the Ryan Leaf era. Also, your jersey is faggish and your other videos are lame, i have news for you:wrestling is fake.

Its the Colt's recruiting staff. They picked Edgerin James over Ricky Williams, when Williams was highly toted as the better of the 2 just as Leaf was over Manning. Also them noticing Reggie Wayne which was passed up by many teams, along with Bob Sanders, shows they know talent when they see it!
yea what a great call on Bob Sanders he is only injured 90% of the time.. and sure Edge dusted for the colts but so did Addai in his rookie season they have a good system and their RB's are boosted by their QB's amazing play.. and by the O-line they used to have.. No, Manning would have ate shit in San Diego and Leaf would have flourished in Indy. SD had one of the worst offensive lines and Indy had one of the best. Leaf had nobody to throw to, Manning had Marvin Harrison in his prime.
Actually there would be no Manning/tomlinson because ryan's sucky season got them the pick for tomlinson and if Manning would have done what he did with the colts than tomlinson would have gone to Atlanta
Why make a video, then, of yourself regurgitating information you learned on ESPN? This fuckin kid has no idea what the circumstances were that led to Leaf's demise and Manning's success, he's talking out of his ass. Stats don't tell everything, my dumbass friend.
the Colts would have sucked ass if they had picked Leaf. the Colts would have had the running back and wide receivers, but a mental case for a quarterback.
San Diego, im not sure if Peyton would have won a superbowl with them. i mean, he's only won 1 with the Colts.
but Peyton would have atleast gotten them to the playoffs several times.
Truly great to see you back! I'm a casual NFL fan, at best, and am much better versed on the NHL. What I know of Leaf's follies I learned from 'Pardon the Interruption'. Dedication & maturity could be factors. Maybe the city, itself, played a part? All his home games were in California, where it's perpetually summer. Might've facilitated a lax attitude? I'll give your 'what if' video request some thought. Hope you're up on hockey, as it's more my forte. If not, MLB is an option.
I gave up on wrestling so glad you are talking football :) I feel If Manning went to the chargers they could of very well won atleast one superbowl, And If Leaf went to the Colts they could of been a laughing stock for years to come. I feel Leaf was not mature enough to develop into a star QB well maybe if he started out as a back up in his career .. But who knows just my opinion .. Great video.
this actually a commercial for abortion.

Great video.

well, Leaf at least did one good thing while in San Diego: He got the Chargers the draft pick that got them LT. lol
