Ok, I've finally figured it out. You have to disable motion detection (SixAxis) in the options menu than you can just use the left rotation directional control to direct the bombs while holding down the square button. And aim a little higher than the target to direct downward while in flight.
I haven't played it in awhile, just wait til' you get to the ending boss fights, it sucks just as bad. About turning SixAxis off, I hope you figured it out by now, it's been awhile for me but I think you access it in the game menu under controls. Yeah, that part is complete bs and so is the ending, especially trying to time your counter blocks to deflect his powerful long range attacks.

hi i recently got heavenley sword, and im up to this bit it is hard, when i hit the targets it dosnt take it sometimes, ive been pressint the square x and triangle, to aim as well. can someone tell me how to aim and fire th cannon straight into it i thought i was close to one once, thanks.
i paid 60$ for this and still don't regret it. i've put around 20 hours into this game. and not to brag but the guide i wrote for this game on gamefaqs was starred!
Aim with the controller.
