First off Yay that my local cinema in Woking won an award and secondly, yeah we don't need projectionists anymore. Technology has got to the stage where you can watch a movie on your phone. I think you'll find that in the years to come projectionists will increasingly be replaced by IT Gurus, people who know for instance how to play a film from the point it goes wrong, instead of having to play it from the beginning.

Someone should be prepared and trained to fix a projector problem in a timely fashion but not sure of the artistry within it as my film watching experience has never been hindered by the average 16 year old doing their job beside ONCE where the film reel ripped on a new movie (Jurassic Park 3) which might have not been their fault. Also some of the projectionist are to blame for some of the fun grind house film reels and even titles missing

I have just cried a little bit. Projection is trully an art form. It's sad to see it go away.

I remember when I watched "Alien 3" in my tiny local cinema and the projectionist changed the order of the tins. And when I watched "What Dearms May Come" and the projection was out of focus for about 5 minutes. But I also remember watching "Inception" in IMAX. In the first 50 frames of the waves crashing on the beach, it was clear that we were watching a low-res digital image on a 20-meter screen.

Folks I hate to see ANYONE lose their job but this a symptom of technology and advancing forward. I mean professions are constantly evolving or dying out. I work as a postman but I can see my days will be numbered in the next ten years or so. Bills are about the only constant left and they're all going the way of online payment. Printing is a dying art too. Digital technology will simply replace film projectionists and plenty of other manual professions too I imagine
