@beeroosterm I know what you are trying to say, But You have to remember that with distortion you have to mute other strings because with alot of gain the other strings ring out easier...So with distortion you have to use muting techinques while if he were just playing on the clean channel it would sound ALOT cleaner because you don't really have to mute other strings much when theres no gain.

@TheWhocares233 I would say the most important thing is to be able to play the piece perfectly using a clean setting. Muting the strings/changing technique for high volume playing is most definitely difficult to do, but until the piece is mastered, using distortion will only obscure any weakness in your technique, ultimately delaying your progress. Steve Morse gave me that advice; his picking technique was greatly influenced by the need to mute strings at high volumes/distortion. Keep practicing
