@simonearly I believe this man claims to be a geologist and an engineer so he probly has basic Chemistry knowledge, and when he was told CS gas he took it to be Cs(Cesium). Nomenclature can be very tricky in chemistry since there exist common names which can be confusing (in "MSG" the S stands for Sodium instead of Sulfur like the atomic symbol), IUPAC names, Generic names, and the old system of naming transitions (ferric, ferrous, etc.) Give him a little leway :)

Just a few thoughts, just looking at this objectively:
1. I don't know of any normal situation where geologists or contractors in the United States carry sidearms like Walther PPKs going to a job site, as Phil says he did. Presuming they were "not told by our government" what was in the cave, there's no reason to be armed.
2. Secret Service was used to investigate white collar crime. Black Berets are Rangers. Delta (SFOD-D) didn't exist until 1977.
3. "CS gas" is actually C10H5ClN2, not cesium.
