I love how he says its easy to do. I'm not actually brave enough to start this project, but it sure seems like it requires a lot of difficult procedures. Obviously Kipkay has a lot of experience under his belt and that would make things easier... for him.

The imager is not a lens. It captures the light from the lens of the camera, which will focus it. The imager will convert the light into pixels, making it possible to see what the camera has taken. If he didn't put the tape over the imager, the imager would have dust on it, and because of the dust, when an image was taken, there would be pixels that are black.

Since there is no lens, there is technically no magnification. The imager pixels are about 10 micron and the pixels on a monitor are about 300 micron, producing an effective magnification of x30. The reason I say there is technically no magnification is consider if the pixels were 1 meter (3 feet), the image would be huge but there is no more information, no more detail, in the huge image.

@teazer999999 for magnification just move the specimen close to point source(LED). Closer, the bigger. Farther, smaller the shadow (image). Thus magnification depends on the distance from point source, IMHO
