Never (or carefully )buy artifact /antique peace pipes on e bay . i have been scammed with a kind of bullshit antiqued Mexican? repro art sold by arrowhead dealers who lead you to think it came from " estate auctions" and you are bidding on a magical piece of american Native history. Artifact authentication costs about US $30 - do it, and go after these bastards. Literally thousands of fake artifacts and high end crafts are circulating the market. THAT SUCKS!
"White People" do not own the quarry, nobody "owns" it, it's a public national monument on government land, held by the feds, in part to keep various tribes from fighting over it. All Native people who can prove ancestry can apply for a quarry permit & quarry the stone, which is mostly being done by Dakota Sioux. Once you quarry it, it's your right to carve it or sell it to whomever you please.
too bad that the natives no longer own the quarry... yep, white guys do. Now what's wrong with that picture? PLUS, white ppl sell pipestone around this area & the entire town makes profits off native ways, yet are prejudice as hell.
@Tamme57 I see alot of price tags on these objects... not sure about that yet i see the same thing at pow-wows sometimes too...not sure how i feel about that either seems if its being done correctly the person who is recieving this object is using it for prayer and the person making it knows whom it will belong to....seems like anyhow....
