Every one wanted one & eventually got one, now they"e gone, and you have to spend 110,000 on a mercedes to have a ride somewhat close to a lincoln that cost under 20 grand. Best part is the lincoln rode better, and had white wall tires. Would love to know who"s idea that blackwall tires are better when back in the day, dodge darts had blackwalls. Welcome to the 21st century.
Oh c'mon these cars are just tacky. That's why pimps prefered them. The Engines were already 30 years old, rigid rear achsle on leaf springs. This was pre war engeneering. The Design was always more important than economy and engeneering to US car makers.
@hearsedriver1968 I own a 1983 TownCar. Not my first choice. But she was $600 in perfect condition mechanically, but she was sanded down and left in the rain... I'm about to sand and repaint it... People scoff when they see it, but once they drive it... they wanna drive their honda or toyota into the largest rock they can find
@hearsedriver1968 I have full respect for you even though I have never met or spoke to you. Your heartfelt statement was enough, your taste in cars is phenomenal. It's not about what you do with a tiny car and how shitty you can get away with making a car and how small of an engine you put in it. It's about its beauty, its performance, its style, its glorious sound, that lovely rumble, and that ride quality, that true power that makes us cry for another shove on the pedal and itching for a rev.
You know why these cars died, right? Because of fuel efficiency standards and safety standards. Think about it, all cars these days are basically the same, there is no variation because the government is strangling every precious drop of life from the car companies.
@D13fledermause Precisely Sir,,,,We can all thank the democrat party for all the panic and economic distress in the US today. They have their foot in the door with all this electric car BS that we cannot sustain, nor, have the customer base for. This foot will be chopped off in Nov 2012,,,Go Herman Cain. We never should have bailed out GM and Chrysler
@hearsedriver1968 I'm a 56 year old Dem with 79 Town Car Collector Series, a 73 T-Bird in restoration, a two year old Camry Hybrid daily driver and their all great cars with different purposes. I've never forced anyone to buy a Hybrid or anything else for that matter and Cain is history just like his party...
@hearsedriver1968 Well I thank the democratic party for all that indeed. Electric is the future indeed, whether you want it or not. That doesn't mean one should let go of stature and grandeur of course, which sadly did happen. Said that, these were never really quality cars though.
(Part II) Now, manufacturers confuse electronic gadgetry with luxury. Opulence is gone and replaced with computer screens and sensors. Luxury is being pampered, feeling SPECIAL, not thrown on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.
This shows just how much the automotive industry has lost sight of what REAL luxury is about. Whether ones tastes go to a large boulevard cruiser or a smaller corner carving sport luxury sedan, luxury cars used to be distinctive. Style, character, OPULENCE... you felt special just being next to one and particularly when you sat in one.
Outstanding video! Makes me proud that I drive a '91 Grand Marquis. I love these big American built cars and yes they need to be driven, not put aside for some Japanese fuel savers.
i have a 1987 town car that puppy is very heavy and runs great never overheats, its my bucket ride do to other non-mechanical only electric and its for sale
I never comment but I am very glad you posted this. I just bought a 1983 mark vi signature series with 95,000 in excellent shape and I got 20 mpg highway after I got plugs and tuned it up. I am only 23 but love these cars, I also have a 91 towncar and owned an 88 caddy brougham but I like lincoln better as they seem to age more gracefully. Thanks for posting, I may keep my 83 forever.
Thank You for this great video! I was a factory tech and love these great cars to this day!I currently have a 1967,1979 Collector series and a 1963 convertible
Beautiful cars, full of character - wanted one ever since I watched the TV series Cannon as a child. I agree with the comments about global warming - just another way of taxing us (carbon tax WTF???).
What a pleasant surprise to see 4 pics of my '79 Mark V Collector's Series in this slide show, including one pic at the defunct Elvis-A-Rama museum. Actually, I was just out driving mine, and it is slowly approaching the 46,000 mile mark....only drive it once a week at the most.
@WolfspringLV Great! I thought all the cars in this video represented the brand well. 46,000mi hey, it's just getting broke in. Enjoy your classic, it's a great looking car.
I love Town Cars. What is very interesting that most people dont know that every body update for the lincoln town car the interior got bigger. I have a 2000 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series and i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You kept the 1994 Lincoln in great condition! That's pretty good considering the fact that NY drivers plan to wreck their bumpers no matter what happens. And yeah, I guess Lincoln was a very luxurious car in those days, and now they have gotten very small in size and shape. I could seriously compare the difference between a 2010 Lincoln Town Car to a 1976 Lincoln Town Car and you would see the difference. I've also heard a rumor that Lincoln will stop productions of the Town Car this year. Sad.
a good properly tuned and taken care of V8 in any one of these cars can be just as good on gas as any car on the Road Today. Specaily if you have a Truck.
Gotta LOVE these Lincolns! I had a '76 Mark 4 and loved it (except for the fuel economy). The 460 4BBL sucked gas and with very poor performance, with a top speed of just over 115 MPH. But I didn't care! It was SEXY, super smooth, and sitting in the leather driver's seat was like sitting on a Barcolounger! COMFORT!! Thick carpeting, even in the trunk! Ice cold A/C and a very well designed instrument panel. Long live the King of Ford: LINCOLN!
i love these big beasts nothing rides like these.new luxury cars are to foreighn.why cant we have style back?new car desighners lake such an important thing as this.
Note to makers of (pretend) full-size sedans of today: the gear shift belongs on the steering column, NOT as a stick in the center console that inhibits full use of the space up front.
im 15 & im sad to see that there's no more cars like this on the road. i love the towncar, america has always made great cars from all sorts of different american car brands but nowadays its always about the damn prius, toyota, honda, smartcar and some other bullcrap. I guess america isn't proud of what were making today and people are mis-judging these cars by gas mileage, so what! ur little crap-clown cars with 10 airbags will never be as safe as these cars! GLOBAL WARMING IS PROB A LIE ANYWAY!
@planetvicecity Your absolutley right, Global Warming is the brain-fantasy of the democrat enviro-nazi movement. They are like bugs, just look down at them with pity bro, then step on em'. Restore them, NEVER recycle.
If "Global warming" (Its actually climate change) is a brain fantasy then explain this: img62 . imageshack . us/img62/5930/thenandnowchooyu . jpg (remove spaces)
In the past couple of years it has SNOWED in ...SOUTH LOUISIANA! (Its usually hot and humid) Temperatures break 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer ...If that doesn't convince anyone that something is wrong, then nothing will.
(PS: The Nazi's were EXTREME right wing, Democrats are left wing ...just sayin)
@conan1845 First of all, these envir-nazi democrats tried to convince the world that the earth was cooling in the 70's and the next ice age was coming due to freon and areosol cans. NO CHANGE after listening to them. The snow in LA is nothing new, weather is unpredictable, just as the enviro-nazi democrats will find their climate change shit. Man is not capable of such a feat. Thses people cannot predict the weather right, let alone climate change.
@planetvicecity got me a beautiful town coupe just like the red one at the beginning of this, only mine is white with a plushy red interior. its a diamond in the rough, it needs a little work
Its nots global warming ..its climate change. Earth's surface temperatures have risen and fallen over time ..we're in a warming period right now. Human activity didn't cause it ..and we can't fix it.
We've run out of easy to find oil ..so prices will only rise. Petrol engines will disappear as its the nature of technology. Combustion engines are very inefficent ..since ~60% of the energy created is wasted as heat. I'll miss gasoline engines but we cant drive them forever.
but then maybe it's time for some kind of car revolution? perhaps a complete turn in how American cars are designed? And you are absolutely right, but I think that Detroit is just monkeying Jap cars and I wish they recognized that a car is still an important part of life and can be designed with devotion.
Handles like a cruise ship, looks a bit like one but jesus they were and still are stunning. These were the cars that ruled the road in true flashing style like no other.Love the town car btw, wish we got them in NZ.
Am I the ONLY one that thinks these cars are hideous? American cars have almost always been ugly in my opinion, and I LIVE in the U.S. Japanese cars are sleek, but age quickly. The old Mercedes from 50+ Years ago were what I would call beautiful. I've been the Mercedes Museum. I've seen them ALL.
@VhUgGz No you are probably not the only one but I am willing to bet you are part of a small percentage. But you are entitled to your opinion and that should be respected.
@VhUgGz Well, after careful consideration, and ample time for others to reply, yes you are the only one that does not like these cars. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and everyone needs to respect that. My opinion over the years is that the US automakers copy Jap/German cars, and have now built crap. Front wheel drive sux, and cars have no identity, like a Mercedes. You cannot tell one from another
@hearsedriver1968 LINCOLN OF THE 70 S IS BEAUTIFULL, BUT MERCEDES BENZ MIDLE 80 FOR MIDLE 90 THE BEST CARS OF THE ERA!!!! W116, 126, 123 AND 124, THE BEST CARS EVER BUILDING!!!! I RESPECT AMERICAN CARS, ENGLISH CARS, BUT MERCEDES IS THE BEST. JAPANESE, FRENCH, ITALIAN CARS IS SHIT. SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH I FROM ARGENTINA, I SPEK SPANISH. SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA!!! FORD ES UNA GRAN MARCA PERO MERCEDES....
As a proud owner of a fresh 79 Collector Series, Town car, I find myself asking, what ever happend to STYLE ??? We used to be proud of what we drove, we were proud of our purchase. Now we consider our cars nothing more than simple appliances. Might as well be driving a Kenmore or Samsung... This video brings tears to eyes, tears of pride and loss,,,
@bubspenis LOL! You have it right on the money. My new Nissan Titan V8 is an awesome truck, but........it nearly blends in with everything on the road.
A 1977 Lincoln could never be mistaken for a Pinto, or Vega, hey?
I have a race car, now I need something I can drive around every day. Hell, with a 77 Lincoln, you get into an accident with a prius, that can would end up across the street, flipped over in a car like that. All I would have to do is buff-out the little scratch I would get on the bumper by applying saliva to the scratch. Anyways. Metal is the way it should be.
Your own town car is gorgeous!!! In four years it will be 20 years old, and they were gem!!! Treasure it. I myself have a 74 mark 4 and a 69 mark 3. These cars will never be seen again by america they way 50's cars and chrome are ancient history! Very nice video and great song!!! really brings out the prestige of these chariots!!!
Lincoln continetal was the best ljuxury car on the planet in the 70s. I drive the second best a 77 mercury marquis brougham dove gray with the 400 sweet these cars are the greatest.
I had a 77 Lincoln Mark V...miss that car..it was a second car that was given to me..I had it for 2 years, but did not have the money nor the room to keep it, so I had to sell it. Wish I still had it.
Never again will there be FULL-SIZED (IMO over 220 inches, lol) BIG BLOCK BARGES that float like you're on a cloud and have every comfort feature you could ever want. Who needs digital displays and "shock absorbing (plastic) bumpers"? I prefer real metal buttons and reinforced steel bumpers. These cars are also way more distinctive than Lincoln's town car replacement, the POS, small fwd MKS.
god I love classic cars, If only chrysler companies and ford companies roamed the earth... I fucking hate those chode little bitches that call themselves G.M. I hate them soo much it's not even sane... but reguardless, the older a car... the better. It's just a shame Caddilac had to sell out to G.M. What a shame
AWESOME VID!!! I'm a HUGE fan of those CLASSIC Lincoln Land Yachts!!! I have some real close friends who have a 1995 Town Car Cartier that they bought brand new and have NO desire whatsoever to trade it in!! LONG LIVE THE CLASSIC LAND YACHTS!! You can practically PARK a PUNY little Rice-Burner on the hood of one of those babies!!! So WHAT if they only get 8 to 10 mpg!!??? That's NOT the point!!! LUXURY, STYLE & COMFORT are the points with THESE Beauties!!! HOT ROD LINCOLNS FOREVER!!!
Love the video...perfect song to capture the class of these Lincolns!! Always been a big fan of the mark iv,s and v's! Now the proud owner of a very sweet low mile '74 galaxie 500. Long live classic american luxury!
I must say ... I love this video! I'm 27 and hate newer cars ... I was upset to hear that Ford Motor Company will no longer produce the Lincoln Towncar and Mercury Grand Marquis ... What happened to the "American Classics"? ... I don't want a "Rice Rocket"!!!
First of all, I'm glad you like the video, and thanks for the great comments. The Town Car, and Grand Marquis are victims of the enviro-nazi movement in this country, the "rice-burner" is next on the Obama agenda. Get used to the powerful sound "whirrr" in a electric 2-seater, soon thats what we are all going to be forced to drive. Unless the US learns to vote right in 2010
The Mark V is a goddess of the road. 1970's neoclassic design in its finest form. Collectors Series white is timeless, and these magic carpets are all about their colors, their wheels, their long coffin noses that knife the air so you can roll on a cloud with your fingers dialing in the directions. Every Lincoln is superb. The 1990's Town Cars are a beautiful continuation of the Mark VII, which is destined to be a milestone classic touring coupe. Wonderful video. very well done!
Ahhh.....I'm speechless. Thanks for your wonderful comment. I have always loved the Mark V. However you win the "Woof Cookie" for your descriptive compliment to the flagship of the Ford Motor Company.
Thankyou, stay tuned, there will be more videos like this to come.
Awesome Video! I'm 25 and I can tell you that I absolutely hate how they make vehicles today and I'm not looking forward to the vehicles of tomarrow. I absolutely love old vehicles. I wouldn't be caught dead in anything front wheel drive. I sort of rescued and partially restored a 1986 Dodge Ram Conversion Van and that is the only vehicle I drive. Screw Cash For Clunkers - rebuild, repaint, restore and keep them old cars and trucks roaring!
You make me miss my '82 Lincoln Mark VI Signature Series Coupe. It was gorgeous, with French Vanilla exterior paint and Burgundy Velour interior. They don't make them like that anymore sadly, and Lincoln now makes the ugliest american "luxury" cars. Thanks for the vid!
Lincoln Mark V, the last of the greatest. Owning a '79 Cartier, and my parents having a '06 Zephyr, I must say the the late models have come a long way since the initial 80's downsizing, but there is nothing like cruising in a 19-1/2 foot prairie schooner.
Ford would always look at the competitions autos, see what they were made of, then make it better. They took the Camry, Accord, and BMW 5 Series apart to figure out how to put the Taurus on top when it came out in 1986. Lincoln was the Luxury line of Ford.
I for one have split feelings, I love these old carberated V8's, but at the same time their are postive aspects of mordern day fuel injection and the like. Too bad that most of these card came from an era where the Big Three wheren't making the best quauitly wise.
What I would do for them to make cars like they used to... it's a shame what some cars have come to these days, they look so wierd, and HYBRIDS like the PRIUS are GARBAGE who would want to drive a slow hideous thing like that! i wish it wasn't the 2000's... :/
OMG. Just when I thought I was the only one who felt this way about these little ugly fwd crap cars they make today. I'm right along with you, I wish I was my age now but back in the 60's and 70's.
ME TOO! I would have loved to live then! I'd kill myself now if i could be put in that time period! Most of the people my age are into these stupid little imports and i HATE those things. I also HATE cobalts. Yuck.
well, not if you grab one soon, like in the next few years, keep it garaged winters, and pamper it with summer drives. My 78 Thunderbird is still mint, bought in 1990.
Thank you for such a great video! Your first sentence about hybrids . . . sums it all up so well. None of the new cars today can compare to one from the 70s with a big carbureted 460.
love this vid i have allways liked big cars and why not have it fully loaded ..who wants to drive standard and roll down your windows when you can have all power im a 70's kid grew up then and watched them drive by the playground and wish i could go for a ride in one
When I was a kid, a friend of my dads in England owned a black 71 LTD 429 and a brand new 75 Continental. They were cool back then and things havent changed for me. Although, stretched town cars are very popular here in England now with the kids. I see more here than I did in the 3 months I spent in the US last year. Go figure?
NIIICCCEE saw a 74' continential today! it was sweet! I also visited a friend one day that had a 78' continential that was one day new in my country, it had a big red eagle on the hood.
Every one wanted one & eventually got one, now they"e gone, and you have to spend 110,000 on a mercedes to have a ride somewhat close to a lincoln that cost under 20 grand. 365degrees 1 year ago

@hearsedriver1968 Yeah. The only Mercedes that comes close to these old Lincolns is the 770K. Close but not enough. Never enough. Landyachts4ever!

My first car, 1987 Saleen 302.
My next car, '78 Thunderbird, or '77 Continental.

@PimphatAnon A 78' Thunderbird is an awesome ride, I have owned and driven mine for the last 20yrs, check out the new video. Thanks,

I had a 77 Lincoln Mark V...miss that car..it was a second car that was given to me..I had it for 2 years, but did not have the money nor the room to keep it, so I had to sell it. Wish I still had it.

GREAT VIDEO! 5 stars!

What happened to the "American Classics"? ... I don't want a "Rice Rocket"!!!
indubitablynsane 2 years ago
First of all, I'm glad you like the video, and thanks for the great comments. The Town Car, and Grand Marquis are victims of the enviro-nazi movement in this country, the "rice-burner" is next on the Obama agenda. Get used to the powerful sound "whirrr" in a electric 2-seater, soon thats what we are all going to be forced to drive. Unless the US learns to vote right in 2010
hearsedriver1968 2 years ago
The Mark V is a goddess of the road. 1970's neoclassic design in its finest form. Collectors Series white is timeless, and these magic carpets are all about their colors, their wheels, their long coffin noses that knife the air so you can roll on a cloud with your fingers dialing in the directions. Every Lincoln is superb. The 1990's Town Cars are a beautiful continuation of the Mark VII, which is destined to be a milestone classic touring coupe. Wonderful video. very well done!
beatricemaude 2 years ago

Nightbird 2 years ago
Lincoln Mark V, the last of the greatest. Owning a '79 Cartier, and my parents having a '06 Zephyr, I must say the the late models have come a long way since the initial 80's downsizing, but there is nothing like cruising in a 19-1/2 foot prairie schooner.

Your right....there is nothing to compare to cruising in a 79 Cartier. Thanks for commenting.

I'm right along with you, I wish I was my age now but back in the 60's and 70's.

well, not if you grab one soon, like in the next few years, keep it garaged winters, and pamper it with summer drives. My 78 Thunderbird is still mint, bought in 1990.
hearsedriver1968 2 years ago
Thank you for such a great video! Your first sentence about hybrids . . . sums it all up so well. None of the new cars today can compare to one from the 70s with a big carbureted 460.

My first Lincoln was a 1975 Mark 4, silver on silver with deep blood red leather, and topped off by a glass moon roof. She was loaded to the hilt....
Since then I have had two 1979 Lincoln Town Cars and a 1996 Town Car. Once you had one, you never go back.
Thanks for posting some REALLY awesome pictures of real cars.

Go figure?
