@iamkushal This lens is gunna be wide but not ultra wide! If you have a crop sensor camera like the 7D and you are looking for a super wide lens then you want to go with the 10-22mm, The 17-40 is a great ultra wide when paired with a full frame camera but if placed on a 7D its not going to be as wide due to the different sensor sizes!
Stop whispering and Start talking maybe then you'll be able to make a video about something you dickhead ... your fucking video put me to sleep bitch!!!
This video's good, and I'm happy you have this awesome lens...but why do people keep buying it for their crop-frame cameras?! It's just not suitable as a standard zoom...it's clearly designed as an ultra wideangle for full-frame cameras
@christopherfrost People by this lens for crop aswell because of the wide angle zoom range? it make sense cuz you would have a nice wide 17mm landscape zoom range.. would you rather have the 70-200 for a landscape shot? i would rather have this instead.. cuz 70mm ain't gonna cut it when shotting landscape photos.. think about it
@jl644 You missed my point...I'm obviously not saying 17mm is some kind of bad focal length! What I'm saying is that nearly all digital standard zoom lenses start at 17mm or 18mm and: A) go much further than 40mm; B) have image stabilization; C) can get faster than f4. Why on earth would someone get this when, for a similar price, the 17-55mm f2.8 IS is available? Even the Canon kit lens is 18-55mm & image stabilized! (although it's not as good quality). The 17-40 is an ultrawide for fullframes
@christopherfrost 1. glass quality, 2. IS isn't really necessary at low zoom range 3. it's an L lens, 4. it's 1:4.0 F stop throughout, 5. Weather proof, 6. IQ. i wouldn't stick with kit lens even if it has an IS on it, like the 28-135 kit lens for 50D/7D, that lens is crap compaired to the 24-105 F4 L USM lens
@jl644 1. The 17-55mm f2.8 IS or the 15-85mm IS are of equal optical quality. Check the lens tests on DP websites. 2. Even at 17mm IS is VERY useful in low light photography and it gets extremely important as you reach 40mm. You need to try some low-light photography. 3. f4 is nice but totally average 5. That's a good point 6. Then go for the 24-105! Look at the zoom range! And it's image stabilized! Why would ANYONE get the 17-40 f4 when the 17-55 f2.8 IS is available?!
@CYNFELYN23 get 17-55mm 2.8 IS USM its better than most of the L lens. the only cons are it doesn't have weather/dust proofing. Unlike L lens. but it will work best for your crop sensor camera.
I've read on a site that if you have f2.8 and you multiply the zoom range by 1.6 (because of cropped frame) that the apperture becomes f4 ??? It this for true? because if I would buy an f4 the apperture would be 5.6 or what?
@MVC7CVM That is not true at all, the crop factor means that the image area is smaller than a full frame giving the appearance of multiplying the focal length by 1.6
@bigredrobot26 well maybe its coz he wanted a quality general purpose lens. maybe he really was not intending for wide angle lens. in fact i am considering this lens for my cropped frame body also because once i upgrade to a full frame camera in the future, then i will get to use this as a true wide angle lens.
16-35 mm f2.8 would be the version of that lens you didn't remember , by the way I shoot mostly landscapes I just have a 5dmk2 body though , and trying several lenses I found my best lens would be the 24-70 but this one is just as good , if it had the 2.8 aperture it'd be probably even better , and the 17-55 f2.8 , well when you see your plastic lens getting dusty on the inside you tell me if you still believe is the greatest doncono and nooooo that's not an L series lens
@AlexDeMars123 its almost identical to the kit lens if not a smaller range. the two benefits are it is an EF lens not an EF-S lens. and second, which is most obvious is it is an L lens which boasts supposedly remarkable quality.
@BOSERNR1 I want a 8-1500mm f/1.0L IS USM which is under 1,5 kg and under 3000 $ and ofcourse a body that can shoot crisp clear images at ISO 102 400!
I wish you put the hood on for a couple of minutes! Wanted to check this baby out with the hood! Do you have flikr?? I want to see some shots with this lens!
atleast this lens is the cheapest L Lens for it's good quality
faloc 9 months ago
Hey doesn, this lense performs wide angle on 7D, because 7D is ASPC sensor where as 17-40mm is only achievable on Full Frame...!!
is 17-40mm same to 10-22mm EFS..???
Thanx in Advance
iamkushal 10 months ago
@iamkushal
17-40 on ff = 17-40
10-22 in allways 10-22mm, on a crop camera you will get the field of view as an 16-35mm ( 1.6x ).
teksTomme 10 months ago
@iamkushal Approximate equivalent is the 28-70mm when used on Canon's 1.6 crop.

i would rather have got the 17-55 f2.8 is, for a crop camera.. the 17-40 is really a uwa lense for FF...

I am using a 24-70 F2.8L USM and i love it. I would wish it had IS! but that would make the cost from 2-3k US!

What do you recommend for my Canon 60D? I want an all round L lens and I currently have the Canon 15-85mm IS.
I would probably choose one of these below:
17-40mm f/4
24-105mm f/4 IS
CYNFELYN23 1 year ago
@CYNFELYN23
you've already got yourself covered from 15 to 85 with a good lens,
i do not recommend getting the 17-40mm.
i would get a 70-200 instead!

MVC7CVM 1 year ago
@MVC7CVM NO just the zoom ratio changes. Not the aperture.
DTxOctavariumx 1 year ago
@MVC7CVM
Not true. A 4.0 lens stays a 4.0 lens whether on a full frame, a 1.3 crop, or 1.6 crop.
Diostillrocks 1 year ago
@MVC7CVM That is not true at all, the crop factor means that the image area is smaller than a full frame giving the appearance of multiplying the focal length by 1.6
Therefore, no, you don't loose out on the F stop
