  • The most underrated bass player of all time, Louis 'Thunder Thumbs' Johnson! It's sad that he doesn't get the respect he deserves in the music industry, because he worked with Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Patti Austin, Natalie Cole, and many A lister artists.

  • Now I will play it up to speed.

  • gah damn thats some slappin!! geebus. It's so much slapping this is like if someone was making a parody of slappin the bass. Only his sound comes out cleaaaan. In this case, all the movement works. I see guys move this same way playing seven nation army. And not even clean.

  • Dont even watch that video! Makes u realize how great he is , and how shitty we are! That guys phenomenol! Imagine how he can just play without slappn!

  • Dont lose heart by comparing yourself to others......There were better players than the greats that could discourage or inspire them as well.....Use watching others play better than you to INSPIRE you to practice and dig deeper with more passion and love for the journey, not the destination!

  • Lesson 1. Be black.

Lesson 2. Crackers see lesson 1.

  • @liamemac LOLOLOL so trueee.

  • i guess this is a bass lesson because that nigga just schooled us... i forgot what lesson ment for a while watching this

  • This is not actually a 'lesson' but a demonstration. This is from a Star Licks instructional video from the early 80s.

Louis starts the video by playing this bass solo. He then proceeds to teach the different passages as a series of licks that are written out in standard notation and tabs in an accompanying booklet.

I learned to play slap bass from this video when I was a teenager. Louis Johnson is still one of my bass idols!

  • I think i just came before even realizing i was up. O.O
