Actually there are about 30+ notes. Each direction has about five different notes. Push left on the C-Stick and up on the directional pad and you will get a different note then just pushing the C-Stick left. So it's basically like this

C-Left, C-Left+Directional Left, C-Left+Direction Right, C-Left+Directional Down and C-Left+Directional Up

And C-Left, Up, Down, Right, and the A button all do this to. And even pressing the "Z" button makes more notes!

Mostly because it isn't really very userfriendly - I get stuck all the time, and will therefor constantly have to stop playing it and wait to play it til maybe a year later again.
