The theme is not suicidal, it isn't about unplanned pregnancy, it is about a man's despair, his pain, and how much he has been through. The 45 is his metaphorical symbolism for 'the world and what it has to offer you', he's staring it down, looking back and recalling his childhood. You can call it a gun, because he is looking down the narrow world, like the insides of a 45's barrel. =P
