  • The piece is called Manha de Carnaval, by Luiz Bonfa. It means Morning of Carnaval. It is from the movie, Orfeu Negro, which means Black Orphreus.

  • I often wondered what Manha meant. I first heard it by Charlie Byrd. HELP......I am looking for a sheet or (otherwise) copy of a Charlie Byrd original composition. I used to have the music, learned it and have now forgotten how to play it, also lost the music. The trouble is I cant remember the title. Its in D major ( 6th dropped to D) and its fast, extremely syncopated and goes round without and end so you start playing it again without ever ending it. You have to make up your own! Ring Bells?

  • the song is black orpheus or fool at the carnival if your talking about the brazilian folk tune. it is pretty famous and a often played standard.
