Past participants include Gillian Murphy and Sarah Lamb. Not sure of they even won- so it's def not all about winning. Sounds like a great opportunity period!
First time I have seen this video - great clips of what the competition is really like. My daughter Caitlin Valentine participated that year and won a Bronze Medal. She is on the video in a maroon costume. We were so very proud of her and even more amazed at what a well run competition is was. It gave the dancers win or lose the sense of self respect and accomplishment. Bravo Ilana for making all the competitors feel important.
it was amazing experience!!! thank you Maddam Elona Copen and to all my teachers in Batch 2003 NYIBC for the great Opportunity it was memorabled experience!!! :)
It is a fabulous competition. Once accepted you are learning 3 pas de duex from 3 very great coaches. It is a very fair competition. I'm going to agree that the comment about winning is stupid. Personally, I'm here to get seen and get my ass into shape for my upcoming season in July. The three weeks allows the teachers to get to know you and your partner personally. It is a great way to create connections. Plus you get to stay in NY for 3 weeks for free.
Dancers who are invited to NYIBC do not pay to participate. NYIBC hosts the dancers for three weeks in New York to learn from the best teachers and coaches provided by the organization. The performance rounds are the most ideal introduction that any young professional could hope to have to a New York audience and artistic directors.
@zazzza1 It does seem like a nice competition. Seems much more intimate than others. Although, in my experience everyone was quite friendly at the USA IBC.
JUST LOVE IT!

Your completely right. I guess they're good if you want to get your name out there and you want to pursue a professional career.
I love the kid that goes "I love to win", like since when was ballet about winning?
