  • He is such amazing man. I feel really bad about his life....Life i s not fair...:(

  • 0:33 Mozart turns his eyes downward looking for a 2nd bag of $

  • man I wish I can be drunk and still play piano like a BAOOOSS

  • A man who can turn an tidalwave of abuse from his mother-in-law into such a beutiful aria. This is my defination on a musical genius.

  • at 0:15 am i the only one who thinks the way the scene transition changed from happily fruity to menacingly dramatic is downright hysterical?

  • 5:40 cracks me up XD

  • Seriously, I don't think Mozart died mainly because of drinking. I think the requiem mass is what killed him

  • ALSO. What song starts at about 3:13? I know it's a mix from Magic Flute, but of what song. Thanks!

  • @Alismyanodyne Its part of ´´Schnelle Fuesse, rascher Mut´´

  • Tom Hulce is so cute and fuzzy in the movie. He also has a cute voice.

  • I think they did really well on the music and performances

  • who else thinks the drunk chick using the skull to sing was weird

  • I can't hear even one measure of the requiem without being totally ensnared. This is the most powerful piece of music ever composed, nothing comes even close. Beyond the overloud Verdi, above the subtle Faure, it has no equivalent whatsoever.

  • @pchantreau Of course I do not feel so strongly about this particular piece but I am just curious do you feel the same about the parts which were finished by his student or only the parts written by Mozart himself?

  • @truvianni It is unclear how much was truly created by Sussmayr. Most likely not so much. Some questioned Constanze's account of Mozart leaving notes and instructions on scraps of paper but he was notorious for doing so and composed a sizeable part of Don Giovanni this way during the trip to Prague. I agree that something changes in the Requiem at some point. Sussmayr did a good job in the circumstances and he had plenty of material to remain faithful to Mozart's intentions if not his form.

  • @pchantreau glad to meet somebody who knows so much Susmayr actually wrote the recitatives in Mozart's La Clemencia Di Tito yet about Requiem he claimed that Sanctus and Agnus were entirely his of course there are things which will never be known to 100% yet most say that Lacrimosa was the last thing Mozart wrote.BTW I wrote a book about opera if you wish to see it please google "Truvianni,New York's Opera Society".

  • @truvianni Thanks for the link :-)

I am by no means an expert. Some say that Constanze overplayed how much Mozart actually left, to boost the "authenticity" of the Requiem and its value. The consensus seems to be that Sussmayr wrote the Sanctus and Agnus and "recycled" the Lacrimosa. If Mozart really did leave scraps of paper they likely were cryptic for anyone but him, but Sussmayr had direct contact with him and would have known what he wanted. We'll never know. The piece is a wonder.

  • @pchantreau oh, that it is "confutatis, maleditis"

  • @pchantreau Actually, I've seen the originals (or at least transcriptions of the Autograph copy as close to accurate as possible). Mozart had written, I'd say a good half of the Requiem before he died. He had sketched a very large portion after the Confutatis, and we know that the only reason there isn't a large 'Amen' section to go after the Sanctus is because Sussmayer was too inept at fugal writing to finish it. Believe me, Sussmayer actually did QUITE a good job- his is as good as we can get

  • @Wagnerlover777 Interesting. That seems to make sense.

  • I love it @ 5:38 while she's yelling at him she goes into Opera!!! LOL

  • Mozart gave so much to the world, but he had so little money, not fair!

  • @SuperPaintings Well to be fair he did piss most of it away. It was terrible what happened to him but it's not like he's undeserving of his share of the blame.

  • What's ironic is the woman singing Der Hölle Rache is Frau Weber's daughter Josepha Hofer

  • @hmorrible She was also the one Mozart wanted to marry but she did not want to marry him or so I read somewhere.

  • @9:42

That lantern has a lightbulb in it.

  • Gênio da humanidade.

    Ah, quem foi Salieri?

  • the inspiration for The Magic Flute was a screaming lady!? O.o

  • @LaurieTombRaiderFan no, not the whole opera just that one aria. Actually it was his sister-in-law who inspired that particular aria

  • Maçom. Humano. Sublime.

  • capolavoro....che musica, m fa rabbrividire e commuovere

  • :16 What a buzzkill

  • Awesome scene transition at 5:38

  • If Amadeus was following the Dungeons & Dragons Core Rulebook, then 0:16 is an intimidate check with no roll needed for success.

  • Hahaha did anybody else notice that guy moving those little kids away from Mozart @ 7:00? Too hilarious!!

  • He's losing his mind :(

  • its always the genius whos fuckin insane...

  • @WolvesInBowties

Yes, but he wouldn't have gone insane if not for jealous, petty, and unsophisticated people in his life actively trying to sabotage his works.

  • best art is 00:00 til 0:06 xd

  • "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen. Tod! Und Verzweiflung!"

  • Whats the song played at 3:13 I would be grateful if you could tell me, please :)

  • jhahhahaha teh mother in law singing !!!

  • Man wish I could buy a Delorean and go back in time to help Mozart.

  • @aurosne I wish you were less stupid than you are and turned around you and seen that there actually ARE people around you who are worthy of your help. Mozart's contemporaries probably thought "why couldn't I travel back in time to help Bach"? it's easy to know whom to help when history has given its judgment. Only great spirits are able to recognize greatness in some of their contemporaries, others bow down to the heroes of the pas, like true cattle.

  • I love his wife , she's so sweet!!!!!!!! :3

  • Who's the man in the 'green-chicken suit'? Singing Ein Madchen oder Weibchen.

  • @Eamesam In the opera it's Papageno, played by Emanuel Schikaneder (i.e. the librettist and Mozart's friend that we see alot of in the movie), played by Simon Callow and sung by Brian Kay.

  • what the heck is wrong with him from 0:01 to 0:10 ?????

  • How did Leopold Mozart die? Murdered, natural cause, accident?

  • he played Mozart terrificly to be honest! that laugh. lol just good acting there

  • what is the song she sings from 5:50 on? reply soon!

  • @TotalDramaPrincess1 It is written in the upper part of the video, just read it!

  • @marianmus thanks! :D

  • @marianmus the magic flute?

  • @marianmus ohh never mind :P got it

  • @TotalDramaPrincess1 its the main Aria "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" Queen of the Night.

  • @TotalDramaPrincess1 It is an aria not a song. There are no songs in operas and the aria is often called "Queen Of The Night"

  • @TotalDramaPrincess1 that's the Queen of the Night Aria from the Magic Flute, Act 2 Scene 3. Starts off with "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen"

  • @TotalDramaPrincess1 Queen of the Night Aria from The Magic Flute

  • this part implies that it was Mozart's mother-in-law whose voice inspired the voice of "Queen Of The NIght" but the truth was that it was his sister-in-law who is not in this film.

  • all you cared about is Music Music Music..

  • i didn't know that there also exists an english version of the magic flute^^

  • @Birtieee94 they have it in every language I once saw a French version of "Figaro"

  • an ear such as mozart's ear should had realised that was the salieri's voice under the mask, interesting.

  • @muhammedmuhiddin it was a messenger on both occasions though, i believe

  • @AngelBiLove maybe

  • @muhammedmuhiddin conversation and music are perceived differently look that shiat up!

  • @muhammedmuhiddin pretty sure he has a musical ear . don't think he was singing at the time . . .

  • @Lindseylovesearth it doesnt matter, singing or speaking.. there is no difference phsicaly. every voice is kind of sound and every sound even fart has a frequence in hertz and mozarts ear sould had worked like an frequence analiser...

there are aproximatly five hertz in music between two notes likte note A and not B

  • @muhammedmuhiddin He could have changed the tone in his voice so he could not recognize him.

  • an ear such as mozart's ear should had realise that was the salieri's voice under the mask, interesting.

  • @muhammedmuhiddin actually it is funny that you should mention that because the man under the mask is not Salieri but one of his servants. Many people think and so did I till I heard the the comments made by Forman (the director) who said that it was not Salieri himself but one of his servants.

  • @truvianni :D i absolutly did not know that holy crap :D

  • I like how the film drastically changes. You start off rooting for Salieri, feeling sorry for him and hating Mozart. But then as Salieri begins sabotaging Mozart's career, you start feeling sorry for Mozart. At least, that's how I feel. But anyway, I think it says that there are no real villains in this nor are there any good people.

  • 7:00 lol thoses kids weren´t suppose to be there right ? production error but still that scene was great they couldn´t just say " CUT "

  • @skyfinish nah not necessarily, i mean. It may be that the director shot that scene on purpose, to point out that the show was set in a very poor playhouse

  • @skyfinish I think they were supposed to be there... first of all: they are wearing stage clothes. And second: I think the purpose it to emphasize that The Magic Flute was for "everyone", a contrast to the previous productions for "the snobby court".

  • I enjoy this music only in this movie. It lacks the punch and power in the absence of this movie. I've listened to these pieces of music in their entirety in the absence of this film and it just doesn't do it for me. That's why I watch this movie over and over again.

  • Thank you for writing above the pieces, thank you very much!

  • Die Zauberflöte :)))))))

  • I love the little girls @ 6:54 who just wanted to get a better view,....

dumb usher shoulda just let them be.

  • Which is the piece played in 3:14-3:30?

  • It's funny how many candles are used in period movies, quite liberally. They were actually incredibly expensive at the time.

  • the second aria of Queen of the Night from Der Holle Rache is the best of the best. Wow, what a SET!!!!! Now, if we could get Diana Damrau to sing the part -

i fell in love with Mozart when i heard the piano concerto #22, third movement - i wish i could hear that outside live with an orchestra on a spring day.

  • a woman's much better than wine!

  • @slangshotstudios mmmmmmhmhmhmhm. very much so.

  • @thinkingnut but together is even better

  • does some one know the name of these piece that starts at 5:42?

  • @ricardobraga89 Queen of the Night - Aria, from "The Magic Flute" by Mozart

  • @EmpireStudios Actually, that's the Queen of the Night's second aria "Der Holle Rache"; the first aria is almost just as hard to sing even for a soprano. I wish they hadn't translated the liberetto though. It loses its traditional value.

  • @bookheaven1000 Completely agree, it's the only thing I hate in this film. Italian operas are in Italian, but german operas are in English... why????

  • @marianmus Yeah, it's downright hypocritical. In the making of for the movie they bloated that they didn't want to change a single note of Mozart's music, but translating the german operas into english while keeping the italian ones in their original language is totally ok, apparently. It's all the more contradicting if you consider their attempt to make a german patriot out of Mozart, opposing italian hegemony. Well, it seems german is only good for nazis in american movies...

  • @RussiaRulesGermany Er, wouldn't it be a little jarring when the spoken dialogue in the movie clearly substitutes English for German to have the German-language operas in German? It's a theatrical/cinematic device - not an attempt at authenticity.

  • What is the song at 7:53?

  • OMG mozart has typhus fever O.o

  • HAHA! Angry mother-in-law...

If EVER there was something that would have inspired Mozart to come up with the horrible, cruel, and yet still-amazing-sounding Queen of the Night...

  • @obiwanobiwan13 .......... ain't it the truth. there are so many genius moments in filmmaking in this. the transition of the mother-in-law ranting to the aria is GENIUS! this is not a play - funny, most the time when they try to convert a play to a film - it still feels like a play. NOT THIS FILM - no way

  • Can anyone actually believe that 'Total Film' - a british magazine actually blamed Mozart for the "silliness of the story" when he only wrote the music? Schikaneder wrote the libretto !

  • Me and Mozart would have totally partied back then.

  • por que nada mas empezar el video mozart hace el gilipollas?

  • hmm, you know what i think ... there are just too many notes xDD

  • hey what's the name of the song at 5:44 ?

  • @mfpzzz16 An aria from the opera The Magic Flute, commonly known as "The Queen of the night aria"...

  • @Noralols Well, this whole thing is parts of the Magic Flute, and that's Papageno's aria.(In the German, "Der Vogelfänger Bin Ich Ja")

  • his wife is hot!

  • whats the name of the music in 00:1-0:16?

  • @goth505 It's from the overture to the Magic Flute

  • Every one know what's the music from 3:42 to 3:50 ? I would like do a transcrition of it

  • @Musicante115 Is that not from the Magic Flute?

  • @m0zarts Yes , it is. But I don't remember exactly the name of the part.

  • poor mozart :( TT-TT

  • @bubbles02010 yeah, and he has that tedious wife

  • It's the Queen of the Night's song "Der Holle Rach" from the Magic Flute.

  • What is that song that starts around 5:40 , can someone please tell me? Thanks!

  • Haha, I think it's sooo random how someone can scream their lungs out at Mozart, and at that very moment, he imagines them singing! xD Good one, Mozart, good one! Amazing!

  • Sad news is that Mozart's surviving two sons never married, never had children. The genius of that blood-line has left humanity. Bad news for our species.

  • @rcabletn

I hope you're not serious because what's bad news for our species is that there are people who actually believe that genius depend on a blood line!

  • It is possible that people that wary of mozart because of his intelligence and ability to translate life scenarios to music, it is often said that genius also carries eccentricity, mozart probably would have been a good laugh and happy company 2 be with.It is tragic it went so wrong and a genius ended up a pauper.

  • @oktobercat That was an amazing translation-what you said-of what exactly I was thinking. No need for me to comment.....you stated it perfectly. :)

  • 0:00 - 1:15 perfectly encapsulates the graduate student - graduate advisor academic relationship.

  • @FranklyMisterShankly I laughed and laughed with this!! Thank you ;)

  • anybody know the song at the begining of the clip?

  • @marty2812 It's the overture from Die Zauberflotte (The Magic Flute).

  • That damn laugh XD

  • @joellynmorgan yeah ik. i watched it for the first time since 7th grade. it was my favorite part, his laugh.

  • So this film is trying to tell us that Mozart literally had no redeeming qualities next to his musical talent. Very uplifting.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST This film is fiction though from what I have read.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST

Are you kidding? Mozart is hilarious, he just went stir crazy from overwork, drinking and his 'medicine'. To be honest, hollywood probably didn't capture his true character on film, well of course they couldn't, he's been long dead.

  • All of his work involves the Requiem.

  • They really shouldn't have translated the magic flute into English lol, it was far more elegant in German

  • he didnt act insane he literally went insane, usually prodogies loose their minds under all the pressure, and the fact he was really sick with scarlet fever

  • By the time Magic Flute hits the stage Mozart is looking more dead than alive...

  • der spacken^^

  • whast the song in the beginning of the opra?

  • what song is the first song with the backround as all dots

  • @chickenkoopr123 the one in the beggining of the opra

  • @chickenkoopr123

the song or aria is from Die Zauberfloete [in English The Magic Flute] It is thearia sung by the Koenigin der Nacht [Eng: Queen of the Night ] and is titled: "Der Holle Rache kocht im meinem Herzen" [translated the " Hell's Revenge burns within my heart"]

  • 5:34

Even in whatever difficult situation, music is always the first for him.

    It's like a curse almost.

He can sublime everything to beautiful music!

  • Wow, they had dry ice fog in the 18th century :-)

  • @hyperthreaded

Probably -- they had more than we think, including bathing habits -- despite what we often hear (you know, the terrible tales of human filth in the 18th C.).

  • What is the name of the last song, please?

  • queen of the night. most difficult female solo of all time.

  • the queen of the night should be singing to her daughter. why is there no one else on stage?

  • whats the opera he writes after she yells at him?

  • @Guitarifflessons The Magic Flute

  • @Guitarifflessons it is the aria <<Der Holle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen>> from the opera Die Zauberfloete [Eng: The Magic Flute].

  • Did I really write 4 comments and delete them? Oh well...

  • That's what happen when god put a shit load of talent in your head. You can't fit all that in a simple brain. It will pop!

  • the mom needs a boot to the head

  • Look at that lil' parrot lol he just see Mozart fall down and he like: "F-ck it...da show must go on." LOL

  • Frau Weber always confused me ... on the one hand, earlier in the film, she's all like "Marry Wolfgang" when she's with the emperor, then here she's saying she warned her not too ... ? What's going on?

  • True -- she is very fairweather. She supported him when she sensed a possible connection between Mozart and the aristocracy. Now, during his downturn, she retroactively retracts her position.

  • REX!

  • whats the music in 0:00 - 0:15?

  • it's the magic flute overture. check out the version by james levine here on youtube. it's excellent.

  • 3:40 - poor piano

  • that aria is RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING....

  • Great scene transition at 5:42

  • 3:13....thats my kind of party XD

  • i think he could work his ass off is fine, but the fact he goes out and parties without sleep is killing his health

  • It's called "Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen" . It's from the opera The Magic Flute KV.620. It was conducted by Mozart in 1791.

  • What's the music in 7:55? I know its the magic flute, but which part?
