  • I lost a younger sister but no one knowss what/who killed her. The case is still open. It tears a piece of your heart out.

Phil has lost so much but he has gone on with his life and has made beautiful music out of tradgedys. There is more than admiration for Phil.

  • it warms my heart...<3

  • this is so beautiful..aarms mg heart

  • I will be seeing you next week Phil and this is such a tribute to your sister! people need to appricate your talent!!

  • This is magical, and breathtaking. <3

  • helps me fall asleep when I have insomnia

  • I haven't cried in years. This did it...

  • anyone have piano sheet music? it's such a beautiful yet sad song...

  • Thumbs up if Song of the Cloud brought you here =)

  • that person who disliket it is worser than a troll :,(

  • Great! Una cancion simplemente bella, saludos desde Colombia! si alguien me colabora con una buena traduccion al español... le agradeceria.

  • This song always makes me cry. It's almost like I can feel his pain. It reminds me of how much I love my sisters. Thank you for posting this song :)

  • One of the loveliest and most wistful songs I've ever heard.Sinead is heavenly here.

  • i am really close to my little sister and this beautiful song just reminds me how i would feel if this happened to her.

  • @legogeek11 same here, she even calls me mom, she's my baby girl

  • ....there goes the no-dislike thing (it wasnt me!), I was hoping people wouldn't do the whole dislike-just-because-there-arent-any-dislikes thing.....

  • the relationship between me and my sister is not very good....

but when she is not there i would never be the same as before...

  • Some history: He wrote this for his sister who died in Lake Swilly. It's sad, but very sweet

  • This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever. I lost my baby sister and this song reminds me of her and all the emotions that never go away but get easier to live with.

  • This is the only song I've ever seen with this many views and no dislikes...

Even the trolls can't hate on this song, that's saying something. :)

  • @iPointless It's impossible to dislike this iP... It's so emotional, I defy anyone to dislike such a sad and heartbreaking story...

    Thank you for the comment.

  • @iPointless I CANNOT believe someone dislikes this..... WHAT posesses someone to 'dislike' such a beautiful piece of music???

It saddens me that someone could not like this... By disliking this they're hating the story of the song....

  • @GlasgowCeltic88 lets just hope it was an accident XD

  • @StarKnight95 It wasn't an accident. She was a Councillor for people with drug/alcohol issues

She got a call, on the afternoon of her son's 10th birthday party, from one of her cases. She was found a couple of days later in the Swilly, her car had to be lifted out by crane... With Phil standing on watching.

The addict she'd gone to see had, according to Phil (in an interview with Éamon Dunphy on RTÉ 27/09/2009), fixated on her and ended up driving her car, with her still in it, into The Swilly.

  • @GlasgowCeltic88 i wasnt talking about what happened, i was talking about the dislike on the video, but thanks for telling me about what happened to her, that is just sad :(

  • One of my sisters died recently. I remembered this song from when I was much younger and decided to look it up. It's the first thing that has allowed me weep since my sister took her life. Thank you for allowing me to find it again.

  • @Deifiur Peace to you.Sorry for your loss.

  • Sinead O'Connors voice in this beatifully tragic song is almost translucent, like a spirit from beyond, from a world of everlasting light and comfort.

  • its sooo pretty and sad! and i have a sister too, makes me wonder what would happen if she died =( i probably WOULD die!

(P.S. what's with the xtremely long pause at the end?)

  • So beautiful. The story behind it is very sad--the song is about Phil's sister who died young.

  • I love coulter. My mother loved him, God rest her soul. She loved The Cliffs off Doneen.

  • Does anyone have the sheet music for piano for this tune? Or know where to get the sheet music?

  • this song comforts the hurts in my soul. Such beautiful piano...

  • So haunting and gentle. I love his music. It is so emotional and touches me deeply. I have all his music. If you like his music you must get his album. Words & music. "The town I loved so Well" ,"The Old Man". About his father. Also the song Steal Away. That will touch the hearts of those who loved their Home town. My heart goes out to him for his loss..His music is timeless.

  • @LLH151

Wow, thank you for such a beautiful comment. You're right his music IS timeless and so emotional... If I can just correct you on one tiny matter though... 'The Old Man' was written for Ted Furey; Finbar, Eddie, George and Paul's (R.i.P.) father.

Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos.

  • I believe Phil`s brother,Brian,also drowned in the same lake at a later date.How sad is that?R.I.P.

  • Lovely song :) I'm just about to make a cover version with some friends :) I'll post it when it's finished :)

  • God works in mysterious ways. Perhaps only tragedy can bring out beautiful and touching song like this. Phil, I am so sorry for your loss but thank you for such wonderful music.

  • *squeals* oh, GC88, i loves it when u put phil's work on utube! i LOVES it, i tell ya's! as i wrote, sad song, but...awesome! wonderful! beautiful! as great of a musician/singer as phil is,

i feel sorry for him. i don't know what it's like to lose a sister (cuz i don't have one lol)

still, though, i didn't know this song was based on a true story. (it IS real, right?) anyway, this "Sinéad O'Connor" person has a great voice. ^_^

  • superjailwardenlover,

Cyd Coulter was drowned in Lough Swilly in 1983 after going to meet one of her patients. I THINK she was a psychologist... (But I maybe wrong).

Thank you for such a lovely comment and thank you for following my work...

Phil is MORE than just a singer/songwriter. He's also a producer, arranger, conductor and a director.

Hard to believe his first 'hit' was the 1967 Eurovision Contest winning song 'Puppet on a String'. Hotly followed, the next year, by 'Congratulations'.

  • is that so? then he's a much better person than i thought. love his songs. ^_^ but whati never knew is that he sings? i thought he hired others to sing, and he was the songwriter.

  • You must listen to his song "The Town I Loved So Well" and "The Old Man" about his father. Awesome. All his songs.

  • wonderful !!!!!

  • This fucking song brings the tears. I think of my own sisters and how i would feel if they would perish.

  • That is the most saddest song i've ever heard >'=

  • This song brings tears to my eyes, this is a majestic piece of music, Sinéad's singing really manage to step back just alittle and work in perfect harmony with the beautiful piano play... I so wish I could play this piece on my piano.

  • slandersson

Thank you for taking the time to watch this.

In regards your wish to be able to play this beautiful piece, all I can say is You and me both...!

    GC88

  • i can't agree more.

i've been trying really hard to find sheet music for this but... i just can't find it

    lovely piece...

  • Phil, you are Ireland and Irish music to so many of us in America. Thank you for sharing your gift.

  • GC88 Im so glad you posted this. I live in Buncrana and have 'crashed now and then'

I have searched the net looking for this song, and had no luck either way

makes me sad but makes me glad in another way, if you know what I mean

Thank you so much. Slainte x.

  • rfmb35.

Not quite so sure I know what you mean, but never mind (it's 1.30am & I'm over halfway through a crate of Black Gold...). Glad I could help. Have you checked out my other Phil Coulter videos yet?

Keep watching for more PC vids soon...

    Slán,

    GC88.

  • beautiful

  • You're so right----that Phil knew that Sinead should sing this song.Beyond that,I've heard the story that Sinead did not get back to him for a while,so he called and asked Sinead if she did not like his song. She replied that she loved it so much that she had not been able to get through it without crying. And so it was made---a real gift,to his sister, and yet another gift from Sinead to her friends in the wider world.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to it and please do feel free to check out my other Phil Coulter video's...

    Slán,

    GC88

  • This is one of the most moving songs I have ever heard presented beautifully and simply. It doesn't get much better than this. It would seem that the Celts in general and the Irish in particular have a way with sorrow that makes it more beautiful than joy.

  • this song is so universal.

there is no other word for the song:beautifull.
