@valachmar Hello, great stuff. I also play on a Berg Larson. it is 110, 0, M. I sometimes think it is too open of a mouth piece which gives a more open sound. I also play on a Yamaha TS62, which I'm told tends to have a very limited tone as well. I want to have a more deeper and richer tone and stronger sound . What is the measurements on your mouthpiece, and have you any comments on the tone of the Yamaha vs. Yanagisawa.
Sonny Rollins would be proud of this version, indeed! I'd be grateful if you post once again where I can find tips to improvise, because the source you quoted unfortunately does not exist longer =( However, thanks for your excellent playing!
Reminds me a lot of my improv style! Hit em' with some hard, long runs, follow it up by some silence, or something to slow it down a bit, followed by more crazy runs. Nice.
@dontevenstartme Actually its both, because if it isnt about what the listener wants to hear, the listener won't listen, therefore there is no communication, they are both equally important especially in Jazz. 1) capture the audience's attention 2) communicate your emotions through your horn
nice going. enjoyed it very much. It shows you really put a lot of practice in. one question ? where did you get the play along, I'm interested in getting the play along for the "Charlie Parker Omnibook",...for E-flat instruments. Any suggestions, would greatly appreciate any & all help. My EM is sirwpique @ yahoo. Thanx & keep up the good work.
What size sax did you start on? do you think it would be better to start on like an alto then go to tenor or just go straight to tenor because i like the jazzy tone and fullness of the tenor... i'm eighteen so i could fit the tenor in my hand if i wanted...
@AntD3PO Alto sax is usually easier, and the most common sax to start out with, but if you could handle tenor, it might be just as good. I started off with alto and found it easier to switch after learning the easier sax.
was charlie parker able to be that good because it is easy on alto??? if you can say alto is easier it means that youve never learned the tricks and the uniqueness of alto.i dont say alto is better or cooler but its just ridiculous to compare these two instruments because they are different. just say you dont like it or tenor suits your musical orientation better.
music is yours and hidden in the details of your instrument which is related to your relationship with your instrument.
@AntD3PO I started with tenor but have been playing for ten years and jazz like this for a while. I honestly enjoy tenor the most out of all saxophones and didnt see any problem with starting it in 5th grade. It is common though to start on alto because it is easiest to learn embouchure and to stay in tune.
I hate it when people try and tell others how to fix their playin when there's nothing wrong with it... lots of greats did ridiculous things its all about how u feel most comfortable and play the best.
He is playing a pattern on four different scales. Its called 1-2-3-5 pattern. So he started on his low C and went up C-D-E-G and so on. Daniel means you will hear this pattern on some trane records specifically on Giant Steps and LimeHouse Blues.
The comments on here crack me up. Sir, You are very great at what you do. Only thing I would say is keep playing, keep uploading, and keep being saxy.
Nicely done. Great sound and solid technique. Don't forget to take a breath once in a while, though (i.e. leave some more space...especially in the beginning of the solo) ;^)
And don't feel compelled to play through the entire track. We all eventually run out of ideas after 1,872 choruses! (except for Sonny Rollins)
hey question. . . i transposed most of sonny's solo and a lot of the head, but the turnaround in the head is REALLY hard to transpose. could you please tell me the notes in order? i can figure out the rhythms. its really appreciated. thanks and nice job
Really good technique, interesting improve tricks, good tone! Are you gigging? I am worried about the puffed out cheeks - are they or is it MUSCLE? I like the freedom in your playing! DJ
Why on earth would you say that? It's rude and disrespectful, not only that, a vast majority of the jazz greats still play standards such as this one. Why would it matter if many people have played the song? He played it well, if you're going to criticize for his SONG choice than you clearly don't know what really musically matters.
obviously, there are different levels in skill in jazz just like there are different levels in anything in life. I, in no way, inclined to the fact that there aren't different levels of ability in Jazz and ,as a matter of fact, I resent the fact that you would call me ignorant for something i have not said

Sorry to leave this comment here, but I am very pleasantly surprised.
Especially with the Coltrane chord substitution (Bb Db Gb B Bb)
Man, fuck that. It doesn't matter who can play better. In jazz, you're never worse than someone, you're never better than someone. There's always gonna be someone who can do something better than you. It doesn't matter. This is a family tradition, jazz. He still did a great job.
your the fuckin man for saying that. Jazz ain't about out playing someone, its about expressing yourself in ( what I believe to be) the best way possible. Thanks for the comment
