  • where did you get the background music?

  • skills.......

  • Fluid... a joy to watch.

  • Hi

    Like the solo

I have posted your you tube video on our website jazzesmusic UK we sell all aebersold playalongs

    Thanks

  • Hot improv and tone.

  • My friend, great sound and ideas. What is your horn, mouthpiece, and reed set up?

  • @thegreatoz7 Yanagisawa, Berg Larsen, Rico Jazz Select 2H

  • @valachmar Jazz Select 2H on a Berg. Good man!

  • @valachmar Hello, great stuff. I also play on a Berg Larson. it is 110, 0, M. I sometimes think it is too open of a mouth piece which gives a more open sound. I also play on a Yamaha TS62, which I'm told tends to have a very limited tone as well. I want to have a more deeper and richer tone and stronger sound . What is the measurements on your mouthpiece, and have you any comments on the tone of the Yamaha vs. Yanagisawa.

  • great performance. dig your energy:D

  • Swing it!!! Love it...all you need now are some dancers for your video!

  • @jpdennis2013

    hahahaha :)))) yes!!

  • Shit is killing.

Who cares if you puff your cheeks.

    Dizzy puffed.

  • Hey! Nice solo!!!

  • @TripleOctaveMusic

    Thank You very much

  • Sonny Rollins would be proud of this version, indeed! I'd be grateful if you post once again where I can find tips to improvise, because the source you quoted unfortunately does not exist longer =( However, thanks for your excellent playing!

  • @ASRomaAURIAZUL

Thanx, thanx, thanx Very Very much :)

  • exelent!!

  • Sounds more like dex g than coltrane

  • @jddenham

Thanx, it's compliment for me. Dex is my big idol (ideal)...

  • your cheeks buff out to much

  • @Bodys101 no they don't. The embrochure is actually pretty damn good if not perfect.

  • One of the Jazz combos in my class is playing this song. Except for they don't play it that fast.... Cause they're mostly freshmen lol

  • well played man ,,you know how to play the sax

  • very good!

  • we are playing this in jazz band!

  • listen to dexter & you'll fill it in . . . .

  • Bravo!

  • Great song, well played, but too much notes and the room is far too loud

  • nice job...it feels better once you play it in a club with a rhythm section though :)

  • Reminds me a lot of my improv style! Hit em' with some hard, long runs, follow it up by some silence, or something to slow it down a bit, followed by more crazy runs. Nice.

  • @Saxfanatic625 Which just tells us that your whole approach is wrong. It's not about what the listener wants to hear. Its about communicating.

  • @dontevenstartme Actually its both, because if it isnt about what the listener wants to hear, the listener won't listen, therefore there is no communication, they are both equally important especially in Jazz. 1) capture the audience's attention 2) communicate your emotions through your horn

  • Thank You Buddies :)

  • very very nice, great job! :)

  • Waw Waw Waw¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • not bad! you got some pipes!:)

  • Hey man, a great treat. Its so hard to find people who are half way decent on this website! And hey! Why didnt you play the head out you tough guy?

    Haha great playing though.

  • If you adjust your head so you can have a better air flow through your body. But good work

  • nice going. enjoyed it very much. It shows you really put a lot of practice in. one question ? where did you get the play along, I'm interested in getting the play along for the "Charlie Parker Omnibook",...for E-flat instruments. Any suggestions, would greatly appreciate any & all help. My EM is sirwpique @ yahoo. Thanx & keep up the good work.

  • chow de bola

  • @clintisfake ftyjs

  • What size sax did you start on? do you think it would be better to start on like an alto then go to tenor or just go straight to tenor because i like the jazzy tone and fullness of the tenor... i'm eighteen so i could fit the tenor in my hand if i wanted...

  • @AntD3PO Alto sax is usually easier, and the most common sax to start out with, but if you could handle tenor, it might be just as good. I started off with alto and found it easier to switch after learning the easier sax.

  • @Donut050

was charlie parker able to be that good because it is easy on alto??? if you can say alto is easier it means that youve never learned the tricks and the uniqueness of alto.i dont say alto is better or cooler but its just ridiculous to compare these two instruments because they are different. just say you dont like it or tenor suits your musical orientation better.

music is yours and hidden in the details of your instrument which is related to your relationship with your instrument.

  • @AntD3PO I started with tenor but have been playing for ten years and jazz like this for a while. I honestly enjoy tenor the most out of all saxophones and didnt see any problem with starting it in 5th grade. It is common though to start on alto because it is easiest to learn embouchure and to stay in tune.

  • Its people and songs like these that make me wish I picked up tenor.

  • you are very fluent man,.. I dug it..

I am putting my horn up for sale cheap

  • no, i wont listen to that

  • Play some altissimo dude... just kiddin u sound fine without it.

  • awesome

  • Awesome man,

    Good Job

    greetings from Brazil

    Diogo Pinheiro

  • pornstar!

  • Why this doesn't have a full 5 stars, I will never know. That was great man

  • I'm learning to play sax and I think this excellent.

  • YOUR AWESOME MAN but one thing i didn't like was when u puff ur cheeks out. dont do that!!!!!!

ULL BE AWESOMER BRO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

  • I hate it when people try and tell others how to fix their playin when there's nothing wrong with it... lots of greats did ridiculous things its all about how u feel most comfortable and play the best.

  • 5 stars

  • Well done, my friend! This is what I would like my solos to sound like.

  • GREAT TENOR SKILLS

  • Really great! Should've finished with a head though.

  • What is that lick you do at 2:25. sounds like one of the scales in thecircle of fourths

  • listen to coltrane and you'll understand this pattern.

  • @Danielc412 Trane? I kinda get more of a Stan Getz vibe from this. Maybe it's just the tone? Lol, I don't know.

  • He is playing a pattern on four different scales. Its called 1-2-3-5 pattern. So he started on his low C and went up C-D-E-G and so on. Daniel means you will hear this pattern on some trane records specifically on Giant Steps and LimeHouse Blues.

  • on what 4 scales?

  • @pamirs94 Uhh no..

  • what?

  • at my school we have a steel pan band and we play the introto this song to cut down on the time but it sounds the exact same

  • i play this song in a jazz band on piano though it sounds nothing like this- by the way im only 14

  • great..., we can

  • nice lines!

  • fuckin beast

  • yup

  • Vyborne, ako dobre ked nechodia ziaci.

  • you have a really nice sound. im working on being able to play like this but its kinda difficult

  • nice.

  • The comments on here crack me up. Sir, You are very great at what you do. Only thing I would say is keep playing, keep uploading, and keep being saxy.

  • sounds good... you've got a nice sound there ;-)

  • Nicely done. Great sound and solid technique. Don't forget to take a breath once in a while, though (i.e. leave some more space...especially in the beginning of the solo) ;^)

And don't feel compelled to play through the entire track. We all eventually run out of ideas after 1,872 choruses! (except for Sonny Rollins)

  • haha XD

amen to the running out of ideas after 1,872 choruses. pretty much true.

  • is that a duke off mouth pice

  • Lul... Will someone please explain what a dushbag is? I'm quite confused as to this new insult.... lul you fail at life.

  • It's a pretty well-known fact that Sonny composes exclusively for mosman high school..... hahahaha

  • hey question. . . i transposed most of sonny's solo and a lot of the head, but the turnaround in the head is REALLY hard to transpose. could you please tell me the notes in order? i can figure out the rhythms. its really appreciated. thanks and nice job

  • what kind of horn, mp, etc.?

  • wow....120/100, very nice XD

  • so good.... amen!

  • some tips to play improvisation???? very good man!! go on and practise=)

  • rapi dsha re. co m/files/197153159/sax_stuff.zip

    !!!remove gaps!!!

  • ok ty,

ive got some blues and pentagon scales, thats im using

  • You should figure out how to write correctly, and also how to not be full of shit. :)

  • you should watch some of his stuff its brilliant

  • Really good technique, interesting improve tricks, good tone! Are you gigging? I am worried about the puffed out cheeks - are they or is it MUSCLE? I like the freedom in your playing! DJ

  • nice ass tone.

  • Tenor Madness, if you couldn't already tell from the title.

  • Reverb off please, unless the natural reverb of the room sounds like an empty swimming pool.

Other than that, good stuff. nice to see someone playing in the changes, not just over them.

  • Why on earth would you say that? It's rude and disrespectful, not only that, a vast majority of the jazz greats still play standards such as this one. Why would it matter if many people have played the song? He played it well, if you're going to criticize for his SONG choice than you clearly don't know what really musically matters.

  • you look absolutely beatiful, i cant believe you play sex so well!

  • i remember playing this my freshman year in the high school jazz band. but i play trombone. not the sax

  • Woah, keep on playing, really hearing a "Sonny" in there! Beautiful!

  • nicee

  • I can play that lol!! Tis an awesome tune =]

  • obviously, there are different levels in skill in jazz just like there are different levels in anything in life. I, in no way, inclined to the fact that there aren't different levels of ability in Jazz and ,as a matter of fact, I resent the fact that you would call me ignorant for something i have not said

  • Yeah man

  • I like that there are actually people that put their videos on youtube that can actually really play the stuff, because most of the people only think that they can play, and they forget that study is important. Or at least covering the basics.

Sorry to leave this comment here, but I am very pleasantly surprised.

Especially with the Coltrane chord substitution (Bb Db Gb B Bb)

  • Thank You very much.

  • Awesome solo!!!!!!!

  • you're amazing

  • oh and does anyone know good play along CD's or something like Band-in-a-box to work on improvising?

  • The Jamey Aebersold Play-A-Longs is the best . This backround is from VOLUME 8 - SONNY ROLLINS

  • Yeah. I know. I like volume 21 the best. It's the best for soloing.

  • hey dude nice playing me and the jazz band at my school are playing the same song good job! awesome song

  • watch a video by monte skelton he makes this guy look like a chump..he plays guitars plus alto and soprano sax at the same time

  • Man, fuck that. It doesn't matter who can play better. In jazz, you're never worse than someone, you're never better than someone. There's always gonna be someone who can do something better than you. It doesn't matter. This is a family tradition, jazz. He still did a great job.

  • Very Clever MagicRain505, Thank You .

  • your the fuckin man for saying that. Jazz ain't about out playing someone, its about expressing yourself in ( what I believe to be) the best way possible. Thanks for the comment

  • does anybody know what kind of sax? im looking and i like the sound

  • It´s a Tenor saxophone

  • i know that i was talking brand it sounds like a selmer but im not sure...

  • It's Yanagisawa

  • thanx im looking to buy a new one and im not sure thank you

  • Hey dude awesome job!! you really know how to kick the chord changes in balls too. how did you get the abersold cd to go that fast? when I play its about a quarter of that speed.

  • that's awesome right there! Great job. Good song too. =)

  • Why would he waste his time learning the fingerings if he wasn't playing, anyways? =)

Pretty sweet. I wish I could play that well...

  • he's got like dizzy gillespie embechure (:

  • he's playing. he just has a fucked up embachure.

  • hes not playing? are you fucking retarded? just watch the video, its obvious hes playing, also why WOULDNT he be playing, theres no reason for him to lie like that, he has like 100 other videos out too. you guys are idiots.

  • EXACTLY! I think all you who think he isn't playing are just jelous of his mad skillz. Riso, you're awesome!

  • u are so good, if u could do giant steps that would be awesome

  • yes he is playing

  • how can he NOT play?

the reason peple post on youtube like this is to show their skillz

  • ....do you play the sax? you would know if somebody is playing or not

  • Apparently you don't then, because he was playing.

  • gosh people have opinions respect them gosh dangit all you freakin stupid people just respect eatch other that is my opinion deal with IT!!!!!!!!!

  • Um... yes he is.

  • wow ur amazing!

im a young sax player who has been working on my improve skills and your defiantly an inspiration! keep up the awesome job!

  • smokin, but it sounds like u playing in the grand canyon

  • this guy is really good, watch my version of this song =)

  • I love ur approach to this song. great solo lines.

  • ONCE AGAIN,GREAT JOB!!

  • Very nice improv. I'm a trumpet player who plays all the Jamey play-along books. Nice job, again. I always get lost when I'm playing the faster songs... uugh.

  • Nice improvisation! Love to gig with you sometime, play off some of those ideas. Keep it up man.

  • Dude yu sound awesome

  • There's nothing wrong with that! Do what you do your way. Just remember me when you become famous.

  • well i would say this is easier because concert b flat is an easy and familiar key to most of us. I play alto but either way it's usually easier to play in concert Bb or F as opposed to like Db or D.

  • you sound relly relly good, but i was to never blow my cheeks out

  • LOL! My teacher used to show us pictures of "Dizzy" Gillespi and say " You AREN'T aloud to play like that unless you are famous, then you can play however the hell you want as long as you play good."

  • haha me too

  • Yea and Dizzy dislocated his cheeks from his face and had to have surgeries because he screwed himself up so bad...

  • i used to play with really tense cheeks on tenor. i found that after playing for a couple of hours it started to restrict my tounging...shortly afterwards i discovered that i was anchor tounging and completely changed my playing style. I find that relaxed cheecks and tense lips (not a tight embechoure though) help with varying articulations and tone....anyway that's just my preference

  • nice everything bruh

  • great stuff!!!

  • This is Tenor Madness if i've ever seen it

  • what?

  • Wow.. You are good!

  • this song is not too hard to do

  • There are no hard songs or easy songs in jazz Tnolan171.

Its all about how you aproach it. A blues like this isnt really easier than some fast bebop tune, its just less complex harmonicaly in the noted version but you can make it very complex.

Nothing stops you from playing at a breakneck tempo with numerous chord embolishments and substitutions on the most basic blues.

Jazz = improvisation and you dont judge jazz by the notation.

  • pretty nice!

  • That was excellent. Well done!

  • great job, very nice tone and ideas.

  • Man, you can really cut loose on that horn!

Masterful! Excellent! You're a great talent.

    Sincerely, Mike.

  • What aebersold volume is this?

  • i think it's Jamey Abersold Volume 8 - Sonny Rollins

  • depressing...

  • do you have the book

  • Just Wow. Wish I could play my alto as good as you play your tenor.

  • Like some of those phrases.
