I tried this recipe yesterday and my husband and I just could not stop eating it. It is a wonderful creation. I am completely hooked and I am so excited about our further endeavors on these raw recipe hunts. I added almonds which also gave it such a great flavor.
if anybody's trying to figure out what to do with their rough, fibrous kale then try this recipe. made it last night with olives, seeds and tomatoes and i'll never look at this vegetable the same again. delicious.
This recipe is absolutely delicious. I had it at a raw food restaurant , and thats how they make it but I'm going to start making it at home. I'm on a ,mission to loose 50lbs , so far , so good.
Ok...I just made this and had it for dinner. It is GREAT! Very tasty, is more filling than a regular salad, the lemon juice really makes it. I didn't have the spring onions, so I chopped up a red onion. I also added some chopped walnuts that made it crunchy. I am a lazy bachelor who doesn't like to cook but this is soooo easy to make. (A little messy for me). Thank you Mrs Knowler, this is a keeper for me.
Made this for dinner. Used those golden cherry tomatoes I told you about. I think this may be my new favorite. Thank you for all of your wonderful recipes. I hope everyone that reads this, will check out Karen's website, you have to see the new program. Living Magically on Raw.
I'm new to rawfood and always see people just mentioning "kale" but when you look at what they post in pictures or videos, what they refer to as "kale" always looks different from the last one.
i just love your show, i tried to kale salad except with red onions. i love kale now, if i am in a rush i eat destemed kale and dip it in olive or coconut oil and then dip that in some ground golden flax, seseame, and sea salt, yummo
Thanks Karen I made it earlier today and it was awesome. You were right about the lemon juice, it is a totally different salad without it. Thanks again
I just made this. It was wonderful. My first time to eat raw kale.
Here in the south we're more a collard, turnip green and mustard green society. However, this "imported" green was good. I'll definitely make it again.
I make a variation of this almost daily. It is delicious. I don't add oil, salt or lemon. I add avocado, onion, garlic and raw kimchee. Kimchee gives it the salt and zing, so no need to add more salt and lemon. It keeps for a couple days really well too. It's great stuff.
Thanks! Well, this is where hand washing comes in of course :) Also, I think it's important to recognise that as a culture we typically have TOO LITTLE hand contact with ou food, when you think about it...
Oh, and Karen, not sure if you've heard of it, but Nama Shoyu is a good raw soy sauce, and Udo's choice oil is an excellent oil too (dunno how well it goes with the kale, however. ;-))
I'm trying to become a raw foodist, and you know what's funny? I actually bought EVERY SINGLE ONE of those ingredients you are using in your video today! I went to the store and bought all of those, went online for some YouTube recipes and I found your video, using all of those items! Well, I mean, I bought other items too, but it's funny that these were in the mix as well. ;-) Still working hard to become a raw foodist, one step at a time!
People don't always realize how kale is one of the most nutrient dense raw foods that is extremely beneficial for health. Thanks for giving me great ideas & telling me more about how the vegetable reacts to oil & salt.
Karen, this salad is unexpectedly, ridiculously good! I used only the kale, oil, pink salt, avocado, tomato, and lemon juice, and it was so delicious! It must be incredible with the rest of the ingredients. I had to leave for about three hours right after I made it, so I covered it and refrigerated it, and it was still perfectly lovely after three hours in the fridge. Thanks so much! You've given this newbie raw foodie a great staple recipe that's very easy and even fun to prepare. :-) Paula
Updated I made your salad tonight It was amazing!!! Thank you. The only thing I did different was add a little bit of Bragg, liquid soy. My hubby loved it too.
It's "raw" soy sauce...meaning unpasteurized, but it is not raw. They were not made from raw soybeans...there was some brewing involved that went above raw temperatures...some raw foodists mind that, some don't...
Just been made aware of your videos and recipes. You are AWESOME!! Thanks for the GREAT and tasty ideas. Looking forward to making ALL of them! This one is particularly wonderful to me:)
I'm glad you appreciated that! it's sooo tactilicious! If you can't touch your food with your hands, then why would we do it with our mouth? ; ) I believe our hands are a very important part of the eating process... I have even started feeling whether a food is good for me or not through my hands - a recent development!! I will blog about it...
how many calories would a portion of this salad have?
PbigPlow 5 months ago
@PbigPlow I have no way of knowing this but I'm guessing an average sized portion (3 handfuls) would be around 300 calories.

does it matter if you use lemon or apple cidar vinegar
RealGoldn 2 years ago
Not entirely sure, I've always used lemon, but nothing to stop you!
karenknowler 2 years ago
I've used APple Cidar Vinegar in the past when I made raw greens. It helps to break it down.

Karen is using 'regular' green kale. I use dinosaur kale (also called lacinato kale).

oil is extremely refined and salt is horrible for you. it dries you out - why do you think you can die from drinking sea water?

We make this all of the time and even our SAD friends love it. Massaging the Kale is key, something we learn from the Tree of Life.
