  • Its caused by stress or manufacturing defect... I never had it happen like this but I had a couple of drinking glasses stacked together that weren't used for a month or so and one day when walking by them I decided to pull them apart so that they would scratch each other... something didn't seem right when I pulled them apart but nothing happened... I walked by them again about 3 minutes later and stopped to look at the table they were sitting on and both of them exploded into a thousand pieces.

  • Just happened while i was taking a shit..

  • this happened to our shower too - apparently a microscopic flaw in the glass when it's tempered can cause it to spontaneously explode, years later...

  • i have actually seen this before, i work as a glazier in california. Sometimes the hinge cutouts on the glass door were not deep enough for the hinges and the installer will grind them out deeper. With tempered glass it can cause it to explode at any time, but not always. That could have been one of the reasons

  • Maybe the hinges were not tight enough and with it's own weight fell.
