VW isn't behind in interior tech, they are quite advanced with a nice, clean and crisp resolution nav screen which is very responsive, Key-less entry w/Push button start, and others. you're dad might not of see them as they are not standard.
I agree, that the MK4's were the hottest looking (very German and Euro look). When I see a GTI 337 or the original R32, I need to restrain my bladder!

Owned an 08 Rabbit 2 door 5 speed and loved it-nice ride and design, lease was expiring and it was time to do something. I was shown a Jetta '11 sedan and it looked like Jap car made in Mexico- no thrills. Looked at the '11 Golf and it looked Jap with a higher sticker price and made in Mexico. Ended up with a Mexican Jetta Sportwagen S cause it was better bang for the deflating buck--but it aint a Rabbit. Conclusion is that I HATE GLOBALISM and what it is doing. I LEASED A MEXICAN CAR by VW.
I miss my MkIV GTI. I don't want this soft piece of Americanized-Euro-Junk. Dear VW, there is a reason why your sales stink, we want German Engineered vehicles, with the same equipment offered in Europe, not a watered down piece o'junk.

I have to say that this is a good try by the VW team but I expected something more sportier like the GTI MKVI, I think that the best looking Jetta so far is the MKIV (any version). Here in Mexico the Jetta MKIV stills being sold as the Jetta Clasico and it has been redesigned, the GLI version looks better than this one from my point of view, the only downside is that still packs the 1.8T engine (not bad) rather than the 2.0T from the GTI but you can still tune the ECU ;)
@simnikiwe1 I couldnt agree with you more but I think the front end does not look that bad. It is a major change from the MKV Jetta's. But the back of the new Jetta's is horrible. It looks exactly the same as a A4. Just missing the LED tail lights. i dont know what Volkswagen was thinking but I wont be trading in my MKV 2.0T Jetta anytime soon.

It seems like the newest Jetta, GLI or otherwise, is kind of based on 80's design trends inside and out. That can work if done in kind of a cool retro way, but this just seems a little boring and dated. Maybe they should have modeled it more along the lines of their latest Golf/GTI offerings.

@mwurman Well i think the step from mkIII->mkiv you are right. Feeling and optic really improved. But the quality of the early mkiv´s (generally not only jetta) was really really bad. Not sure if there is a big difference between your location and here in germany.. but there were a lot of problems. But i really loved mine:D But it is a good idea to know the issues of the mkiv´s and keep an eye on this and that ;D

@ChristewieTV Jettas and Golfs are, but the high performance models are usually made in Germany. I have a GTI that was made in the Wolfsburg plant in Germany.

Looks like a Mazda in the front, Jetta in the back. Interior looks completely basic and boring. I own a 2005 Jetta and have always admired the look of the model until recent years. Doesn't look like my next car's going to be a VW. Ashame.

Bring back the VR6(24v 2.8L or even the 3.2L) but up the power 200hp so little power from today's technology come on VW make the GTI/GLI actually competitive on the street with say a cobalt ss and easier to blow honda's away. and that front end is hideous

@mwurman Well i think the step from mkIII->mkiv you are right. Feeling and optic really improved. But the quality of the early mkiv´s (generally not only jetta) was really really bad. Not sure if there is a big difference between your location and here in germany.. but there were a lot of problems. But i really loved mine:D But it is a good idea to know the issues of the mkiv´s and keep an eye on this and that ;D

@jonathanwtsoi Lexus ISF copies European designs if u haven't notice for the paste decade. secondly 2011 jetta is designed by the same person who designed Audi R8. so Lexus did copy Audi in some way? <-- research & knowledge #ftw
