This 99 team would always have prayer in their huddle when the game finished. That locker room was filled with quality pieces to pull a championship team. Wish Patrick was healthy.
Arguably the hardest-working team in the NBA back then. They sure could have used Ewing against the Spurs, although the Spurs probably would have won anyway.
i was 7 when i started watching basketball and the first team i ever saw was the knicks in 1999 because they always played on nbc. they just seemed like america's team and their rivalries with the pacers and heat were the best playoff series i have seen to this day.
We Beat The Spurs Last Night and the Next 10 games are winnable and crucial to where want to be come April...One thing I'm Very saddened is that No die hard fans like these back in 99 and the other years they dont show up to their seats ... there are only goddamnnn Tourists from other places that come to the Garden since they have been not hungry for the willing to be competitive and be a model of the 90's knicks...Guys we are on track to greatness i can assure you...Lets Get Back to the Garden
To Ma Fellow NEW YORK KNICKS FANS....WE WILL BE BACK BEFORE YOU KNOW IT....WE Have TO DEVELOP OUR YOUNG PLAYERS AND GET THEM READY FOR THIS TYPE OF ATMOSPHERE.... WE ARE REGROUPING AS A TEAM AND AS A FRANCHISE WITH A PROMISING FUTURE...ONCE WE HAVE THE TOOLS OF A CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDING TEAM ANNNNYYYYTHING CAN HAPPEN...As for knicks season ticketholders i would get my ass to my seats to get the teams back for these next few games guys forget about the past few years and lets go BACK TO WAR !!!
This was one of the happiest moments of my life, it's amazing watching this game all over again. I truly miss Knicks bastekball, real Knicks basketball, but we'll work our way back!
I was very happy that they beat the Pacers in 1999, particularly after the Kncks lost to them in the second round of the playoffs in 5 games the previous year. Also, they were the 1st 8th seed to make it to the finals in that same year. The Knicks have done much better than I expected so far this season. I hope that they can make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
Yeah the '99 Playoffs were wild, and the rivalries with Miami and Indiana got the best out the Knicks. Thanks for posting all these games man, they bring back some nice memories.
I just saw all 18 parts! I hate how the knicks have no heart nowadays...All they're gonna wanna do is score. I think after they learn DiAntoni's system they should completely focus on defense...even if the knicks dont have a good year, they have to play hard a home. They cant allow other teams to come to NY an expect an easy win...If they beat us at home, fine. But they should be bruised up in the process.
This is the team right here. It was already mentioned, but if I had to go to war with any ONE basketball team, it would definitely be this Knicks team. All the adversity they had to overcome, all the problems, even the WE(the fans) were against them at one point because they were without Oak and Starks. But they just stuck together and proved every single person wrong. Everyone from Coach Jeff Van Gundy to Latrell Sprewell to Camby to Kurt Thomas. In my heart these are the real 1999 champs.
Dude you absolutely right the two teams in this year final Boston or L.A could not beat that Knick team in 1999 maybe not the pacer team for that matter. The league has changed a great deal and its only been eight years
now you see how different american sports has changed. you see how all the participants had enthusiasm. the commentators, the crowd, and even the coach. nowadays its like everybody is just concerned with checks. you notice how everybody was hysterical even jeff van gundy's wife.
No...that's the spurs game. Especially since they had the twin towers in Duncan and Robinson. If you had a healthy Ewing paired with Marcus Camby down low it would've been different.
Camby's play was the key of the series...the 4 games where Ewing was out with injury, he averaged 18.75 ppg, 11.75 rpg, 3.25 bpg, and 2.00 steals per game. In the end, the Charles Oakley trade paid off.
men I remenber tha playoff run it was just incredable i was jumping like a mad man when game six was over say were going to the finals just wish that Ewing wasnt hurt for the finals
If I could chose ANY nba team to go to war with, EVER, even though we lost in the end, it would be the 1998/1999 NEW YORK KNICKS. Oh, the regret of no STARKS and OAKLEY going into the season, BUT THIS IS MY TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a fun ride for these Knicks. I still remember talking with my friends at school about this. I love it.

One reason why it is very fitting that Reggie Miller never got a ring in his life is that he flops like nobody does.
I recall the Pacers-Heat game that same 1999 season as well, where he INTENTIONALLY runs into Clarence Weatherspoon and exaggerates contact.
realrocky8591 3 years ago
Vlade divac was even worse, but you are right, Reggie was pretty bad.

Nobody was beating the Spurs that year. I don't care who the Knicks had on the floor.
Yes, the Knicks would've been better with Ewing and Johnson, but the result would've been the same.
chessarama 3 years ago
Knicks didn't have Ewing and larry Johnson for the Finals. It would've been a different series if they were healthy.
jasonstarks316 3 years ago 4
Does anyone else think they were dead when they got to the finals? Who knows how they could have done with a healthy Ewing and a rested team.
Tolan04 3 years ago 3
Ewing wouldn't have made much difference in the Finals. If anything, he would've slowed the Knicks' offense down.
The next year, the Knicks faced the Spurs (with Ewing) and the Spurs spanked them.
chessarama 3 years ago
No...that's the spurs game. Especially since they had the twin towers in Duncan and Robinson. If you had a healthy Ewing paired with Marcus Camby down low it would've been different.

funny how he was the reason he got them to the playoff's with his "slow" offence
