I always tortured my non-punk husband with DS, 999, Beck etc and he finally came around about 5 years later. I wouldn't stop and he finally started LISTENING....
I LOVE hearing this! I used to work with Dennis Duck at Licorice Pizza's distribution center waaaay back in 1981 and I can remember when he came up and played this song for me. He'd been thinking about joining the band and wanted an opinion, and I told him I thought it might be worth a go. They still didn't have a name, so Denny and I tossed a few about and despite the hangover headache I managed to suggest "Dream Syndicate" ....guess they liked it enough and well...there ya go.
that's great. unfortunately they neglected to credit you for the name suggestion, but at least it's mentioned it's borrowed from tony conrad/lamont young's ensemble.
i prefer the first incarnation of the band...after kendra left it was like tom petty and the heartbreakers.
This is song was ahead of it's time when it came out in 1982. It was like the Velvets and Stooges that came before them....but different at the same time. This was the first truly punk-inspired alternative rock song.
@kyotokombat It is a great song, but "the first truly punk-inspired alternative rock song"? In 1982? What planet was that on? That was two years after Ian Curtis died. Dream Syndicate were hugely influenced by bands like Wire, Magazine, Joy Division and The Sound, who were making stuff like this in the late 70s. This is classic post-punk, but it's by no means the first.
I saw Steve Wynn live many times in Norway and once in Berlin (1992) as well.
I think the "The Days of Wine and Roses" is the best rock LP i ever bought. I have it in two different versions. One with a blue cover that was printed in France. Plus the green and white original LP. Plus the CD. And I have a rare 12 inch orange vinyl single called "tell me when it's over" with "some kinda itch", "mr. soul" and "sure thing" on side B.
such a great band. i had one of their live shows on cassette.

Never cared about a credit or even gave it a thought. Denny and I came up with the idea of it and that's cool enough for me.

Joy Division was another post punk alternative band, great new music ahead of it's time (78-81)!

Wynn/Cutler guitar solo at the end, a piece of musical glory.
I love this quartet formation like in the "Live at Raji's" album.
Thanks x this!
