Actually after the last "overhaul" aka OMDP (Orbiter Modification Down Period) Columbia flew STS-109 to the Hubble Space Telescope, before the ill-fated STS-107.
@mach25man Cheers, how come Enterprise cant go into space? was it a test shuttle before the rest were certified? (sorry to bother you with this but im over in the states next year and im hoping to visit the space centre, hope there is a launch at the same time)
Ist thing is, the heat shield is all foam made to look like tiles. The crew module is not built up like the real thing. Last, it does not contain most of the guts to go to space like APU's, fuel cells the plumbing etc etc. The only thing that is real is the shape.
@funkabby1 Enterpise was a landing test shuttle only, it was not space worthy, and NASA built Endeavor because it was acturly cheaper than making Enterpise space worthy..
columbia was my favriote space shuttle as well. i always thought if there was a space shuttle to go it would be atlantis because ive heard it has a few matidence problems.
"Uh...delta Alpha Charley 125, make sure you guys are using condoms, we don't want any cessnas coming out of the 747's cargo door in the next 9 month"
its too bad that our government wont allow their top secret aircrafts like the aurora to be used instead of the junk aircraft space craft. could have saved them from dying. anyways, today feb 1st is the anniversary of their deaths, R.I.P mates
yea, they only use the 747 when the shuttle is forced to land out at edwards, its pretty cool to watch, even to go inside the 747 at the edwards afb open house is neat.

The Space Shuttle Columbia (RIP) is being transported possibly from Edwards AFB to the Kennedy Space Center for her final, tragic launch.
