Hi, I've suffered from chronic extremley painful debilitating NON AURA migraines for 42 yrs. 5 months ago I sufered an emtremely bad migraine which woke me and I couldn't see out of my right eye. I thought I was beginning to get aura migraines. Further investigations showed I had a CRVO- central retina vein occlusion. However the Eye Doc was perplexed as I have NEVER smoked or drank and this is unheard of for sufferers of CRVO. I now think I my may have had a migraine stroke.
A month ago I had a stroke. I could barely speak, could not write or type. I have been going to speech, occupatiional and physical therapy. I had migrain with aura about twice a month for a year and a half previous to my stroke. The week prior to my stroke I had the aura twice. I was told not to worry about the migraine with aura and be glad I had no headache. I wish I new that aura's could lead to a stroke. Now I have to learn to talk, walk all over again, its been very frustrating.
I have migraine with aura but usually no headache. Last night I had a really bad one and my arm and face went numb and was speaking incoherently, and was really scared. I went to the hospital (i'm Italy right now) they asked if i had this before and i said that i had the migraine aura, and they made me sit in awaiting room for 30 min and then checked my BP- it was normal, and they said the exam was normal, and said I should see a neurologist. I am 30
I am NOT a doctor or a medical professional. I can only tell what happened to me.
I agree that you should see a neurologist. I would be extremely surprised if, given the symptoms you had, you might have had what they call a TIS (mini stroke).
I learned last year, when I went for an exam by a neurologist, that my brain showed signs of more than one stroke, (at least one other "mini stroke") not just the worst one I had in 1999.
I have migraine with aura, perhaps due to birth-control pills that I need to stop getting ovarian cysts. They got worse recently. I have always thought that migraine aura and stroke are related because both have to do with problems in the blood vessels of th brain. If you ever hear of research done about this, please do tell.
I suffered a stroke last year at the age of 29. i originally went to the doctor's complaining of severe headaches and i was told that they were tension headaches/migraines/anxiety and I was put on an antidepressant and migraine medication. I had to beg my doctor to order a MRI and it was confirmed that I was having a stroke. I went to a Neurologist and he told me the cause of my stroke was a combination of taking birth control pills and migraine headaches.

Hello, I have had terrible migraines, with aura, and severe pain and vomiting, the whole works, since I was 12, I am now 44. I fear having a migrain stroke everytime I have these severe migraines, and my doctor brushes it off. My cousin's wife had migraines, and she had a stroke. My grandmother did also, and her stroke took her life, she died in my arms this last April 5th, 2007. So you can imagine my fear of stroke. I'm sorry this happened to you also. I am ready now to change doctors.
hello my name is nadine my mom before she died had migranes usually by a anuersym or arterial venus maliformation which is tangle arteries in the brain usually high blood pressure can burst the ateries in the brain migrines cause severe pressure that can raise the blood pressure causing a stroke
Hello--I have terrible migraines. I have the aura as well...to me it looks like flickering sparks.
Here is my thing--I was on birth control and the hormones in the birth control are what caused this. They immediatly took me off them saying it can cause a migrained induced stroke. It is all so confusing because of the lack of knowledge so I agree with you on this 100 percent. I was also wondering if say hormonal therapy could increase the chance of a migraine induced stroke too.
From what I have been told hormone therapy CAN cause migrains-induced stroke.
I just think a LOT more research needs to be done on this, there is information out there, but not as much as I would like to find. And I sometimes wonder if because the hormone therapy is mainly for women, that the resulting stroke is not considered as serious as if it weere men.
I am a migrane sufferer, i also get the "aura" each time. This sprng it will 2 years since my "mini stroke" which left me with no side effects whatsoever.I did not have a migrane the day i had the mini stroke. But i too think that there is a connection here between migrane and strokes. Doctors dont seem to want to listen to this.
Hi, my name is debra, I have also suffered a stroke......to cut a long story short ..I had an unexplained 10 out of 10 headache for 40 plus days!.I sought help from gp's and even did a 2 day stay in hospital still onec sent home I had my stroke!...I had carotid artery disection [blocks them and causes lack of blood/oxeygen to brain..I have infarct in left side of my brain ..causing right arm and leg to be affected....I feel the doctors let me down very badly...no compensation!
Thanks for posting this on Youtube. My sister just had a stroke caused (apparently) by migraine. Hers have always been pain related. She is currently in Guatemala so I'm not sure when she'll be cleared to travel back.

I have an appointment thursday (the symptoms were Monday night), do you think that's too long to wait (tomorrow)?

Personally, knowing what happened to me, I would have insisted on seeing a neurologist immediately.

Yes, there is a doctor doing research on the connection between migfraine with aura and stroke.
I do not remember the doctor's name, but if you search using both terms I bet it will come up.
