All coaches aren't the same. So it's difficult to know what their motivation is. About prices, some are perhaps expensive. Hopefully as there will be more coaches then prices will drop.
$200 an hour for the first 3 hours and $150 after that, and all the advice she gives sho got out of a book you could buy for $20. My thought is you are the only one who can change you
That said, the deep relaxation exercise video is rather good. It does exactly what it is supposed to - calm and sooth the listener. It does not provide solutions or give advice, but creates a relaxed environment for the listener to work on themselves and switch off from a stressful day. The individual is taking their stressful situation into his/her own hands and finding the answers by him/herself. More videos of that type would be very welcome by everyone on here I would imagine.
Whilst I agree with many of the principles advocated here, employing a personal life coach renders the individual too dependent on them. It is merely duplicating the advice and support of family and friends, though understandably people may feel more comfortable consulting someone anonymous. This, however, detracts them from facing their issues as directly as they should. If the individual doesn't have the drive and will, they will not surmount their difficulties. You can't fight Darwinism.
@petitanglais A coach is sometimes better than family and friends. Because they are trained to make you reach your goals. They have practiced and studied techniques which hopefulley they can teach you.
@jimmez They are trained to make money, more like it. These aren't educators driven by a passion to inform and englighten, these are people who know how to tap into niche markets. And they often succeed, but that's because many people are gullible. It's not really value for money, most of it can be found in self-help guides for a fraction of the price. Not to mention the blogosphere is full of free advice. A sensible person will be able to pick out the good advice.

I guess this fits in with the theory that "Life is a Game" - coaches generally teach you how to play the game, after all.
