I'm glad you didn't punish the dog, but aren't you concerned that he might actually be doing this because he is distressed when you are gone? You might want to look into a "behavioral" evaluation to see what needs to be addressed. At the very least, you need to come up with a way to protect him from the dangers in the trash, whether that means a crate or just moving the trash out of his reach.

Lots of toys. We have two Jack Russell's and one Boston Terrier and if you dont give them something to keep their minds occupied they will find something on their own.

@texcoonazz Be careful what you say. I had the best american bull dog in the world, tame, quiet, chewed a lot, and she jumped off our third floor porch when we left because of separation anxiety.  We left her with more toys what she knew what to do with. Any breed can get it, and it can be deadly. An evaluation is not bad. Dogs that do get anxiety tend to tear stuff up to release their distress. Not all dogs are they same, Scooter could just need more toys :) But I say, better safe than sorry

I can leave my BT home all day while I am at work and the worst she will do is poop in the bathroom if she can't hold it in till I get back.

She even gathers up all her toys from around the house and brings them to her bed before going to sleep, then takes them out again to play in the morning.

For god's sake, train that poor thing before it's too late. It's not healthy for him to be eating/chewing anything he finds.

@hbplaya Tell it like it is. Boston Terriers are great dogs, eager to please, eager to learn, and they don't forget either. I have 5 Bostons myself, different ages and ALL of them respect my things. They only chew on their stuff (i.e. Kongs, balls, stuffed toys), never on my things and that's because I leave things on the floor within easy reach for them. They're all housebroken too, and if they need to go outside, they come up to me and touch me with one of their paws to get my attention.
