  • You guys are all wrong about the stick technique the thumb and the pointer finger should be the only fingers firmly gripping the stick none should be sticking out but they should not all be gripping the stick. But by all means drum the way you want to because most drummers have bad habbits. I've just started studying jazz drumming with a teacher and I've had to redo my style so to speak.

  • oh yea, 17/8.

  • Awesome sense of time dude but you need to get yourself a real drum set, electric kits give you absolutely no sense of velocity and will be murder on playing ghosts and complex rhythms.

Work on your hand technique too, you'll find it a lot easier to keep control of your playing with proper hand technique, you'll also find yourself getting a lot faster too.

Loving this right now though, great work and keep up the good drumming :)

  • I think its awesome dude

  • yeah really absurd, this is fucking lame like metallica or some dumb ass shit

  • your playing was the one absurd.

  • pretty much garbage

  • Song is cool, drumming's not.

  • You should learn some chops, because you've got nothing going there. The rhythms are poor and the execution even worse.

Oh, and a 5+5+5+2 is not absurd by any means, lol.

  • @amjan It seems as if you know a little what you're talking about. I've been playing music for a long time now, but what exactly does it mean when these videos (usually drum videos) have 5+5+5+2 or 7+7+3 or something like that?

  • @Megasus007 Time sigs

  • @Megasus007 He wrote his time sigs in patterns of 5/8, 5/8, 5/8, 2/8. If you count out loud with him from the beginning, you'll see. (count fast - 12345, 12345, 12345, 12, 12345, and so on) Drummers seem to like it because it feels a little "off", once you get a feel for one pulse, they throw in a measure of something else. Watching people dance or head-bob to it is funny, because they keep getting off the beat. :)

  • @MissYerex Okay I do that with my music but I didn't understand the reasoning for 5+5+5+2 rather than saying 5/8 for 3 and 2/8 for 1, if I put 7+7+2 and you couldn't hear the beat how would you be able to tell if it wasn't 7/4 7/8 and then 2/2 or 7/8 7/8 2/8 etc.?

  • Necessary: If you're recording an album, record ALL the drums first, then the guitar and bass. If necessary, record the drums over the rest of the track, then re-record the guitar and bass over the finished drums. It's almost impossible to play drums in tempo following a guitar and/or bass, and it's better if the whole track is a bit inaccurate in tempo but its still all following the drums, than if the guitar and bass are on time and the drums are off. Had similar problems myself!

  • For reasons I can't explain I no longer have any interest in drummers who play matched grip (except Bill Bruford, he's a god so I forgive him)

  • I made a drum beat that consists of a 7/4 measure, a 3/4 then a bar of 4/4 and then a 6/4...i don't if i'm being redundant since i know jack shit about music theory and i'm NOT a drummer. I'm a guitar player without a band but i want to go out of t he classic 4/4 so i just went into FL Studio and programmed that beat with Addictive Drums...any ideas?

  • i fucking love this

  • Aw, fade out. So `80s.

  • crap boss this is an awesome tune, i thought the repetitive cymbals at around 2:00 were crappy but probs cos its an eletric kit. also the first half was much better than the second

  • i liek it but uhh, lol, if youve ever had a drum lesson of any sort, you probably got yelled at for your pinky. i noticed when you were doing the hi hat and snare things around 1:14 and on, you let your pinky off the stick, trty and keep on the stick, itll give you more controll and help keep the stick in your hand

  • @ImBored1031

Yeah, I do the pinky thing when I'm playing doubles--I loosen my grip for the double, and for some reason the pinky goes out. It's a bad habit, but it doesn't really matter and it's kind of funny that you can see the doubles coming, so I haven't really put any effort into unlearning it.

  • @silverspaceship thats why your doubles sound bad.

  • @silverspaceship It does matter. The pinky is connected to the stronger muscle in your forearm.

  • @ImBored1031 he won't get yelled at for his pinky.

if you ever watched professional drummers like tommy igoe or somebody else they will all tell you the same - play the way it works. even tommy igoe, jojo mayer or any drummers sometimes let their pinkys off.

    nobody cares

  • Awesome video! You're an amazing drummer (you should get a real drums set) This is a really pretty song. Is it an original song or are you just playing along to a track?

  • @SmileysRevenge100 Thanks! It's 100% original.

  • @silverspaceship Sweet! What did you record with?

  • @SmileysRevenge100 In the past I've used a roland hard drive recorder and pro tools, but these days I use the Reaper for recording--it's much cheaper, but I find its workflow far saner. The guitar is recorded direct from a Roland VG-88 processor, and the bass is through a Zoom pedal.
