Ah dude that sucks. you can send it to sony for the price they quote you but you will get a used and refurbished console back.
I would recommend buying a new 40gb version. keeping it in a well ventilated area and cleaning the fans weekly.

Our 40gb version.
It was a 60gb that got the light which was my favorite model which they no longer make. rather disappointing
if your buying a new one then whos ps3 is that next to the broken one
