I saw this movie when I was a kid. I think it was my mom that said "I think s/he has a beard". I was still surprised when it is shown that Song is a man BABY!!!! Now that I see the movie again I can only see Song as a very obvious MAN. All characteristics are very manly.. Hindsight 20/20

@bigtimepimpin666 Way for your mom to blow the suspense, though I think Song's entire face needed waxing because the close-ups show the infamous five o'clock shadow. That five o'clock shadow really ruined it. And John Lone should have never accepted the role of Song Liling, but that's another story. He'd have been better cast as one of the reeducation camp guards.
