For some reason I got a little emotional with that last line.
Something to do with how the understated the emotion is. "People were giving up, and I'd spent my life building up the place," barely hints at the worry and desperation underneath the words, and the same for the tremendous relief under "we'd be all right." Makes me think of my dad and grandfather on the farm in the prairies...
Like many of us I'm reminded of being in grade 3 or 4 or whatnot and watching these between the Flintstones and well, I forget what else I'd watch on CKND (Winnipeg)
