Good Video, but some of the Highlights R from the 96 season. I've been watchin the Lakers since birth. The 94-95 team is my 2nd all-time fav. Behind this years team.
Actually, ROBERT HORRY was his replacement. Kobe was Eddie's (though in retrospect, those two should've wound up playing together during those title runs in '00,'01', and '02; Jones would've made an excellent 6th man on those squads)
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS!!!!! in 1964 13 year old Elisa Johnson was raped and murdered in North Carolina, her body was found with multiple stab wounds, and now that you've read this, every night she will come to your house and hang from your closet with glowing red eyes, the only way to stop this is to post this to 10 other videos
hells yeah. back in what i likes to call the poo-poo days. just kiddin. the garbage man (all-star that year, no?), nick the quick, exciting stuff. who else, lots of fan fav's, the thief, eddie jones, pig miller!, floppy divac, hot shootin anthony peeler for three! this was an exciting team. although, gotta love the man, in the end, the magic man maybe screwed with the chemistry. he can back bulked up as fuck though!
95' 96' we didn't have that LeBron James or MJ or Kobe like franchise player but we were a sold consistent fun team to watch. One of the best "team" teams in NBA
Kobe is a lot graceful than Eddie in terms of dunking. But what makes Eddie Jones' dunks beautiful is like he's gonna slam it right the defender's face!
yes i watched that team very closely, they didnt shock the league that year but they were a playoff bound team & i think they would have been regardless if Magic played or not, like i said he did his thing very well & they would have won more games if van exel & Magic didnt have those suspensions from their Referee incidents. You gotta understand, this wasnt a team that was built to be a top playoff team,it was pretty much a makeshift team that just happened to work.
yeah but they were a playoff team,6th seed i believe.Magic didnt really contribute much of a difference. But you better believe he easily sold more tickets for them.
i still believe Magic's purpose on that team was to increase ticket sales & national TV time (like with Jordan & the Wizards). I dont really believe his numbers really contributed much of a difference from what the team was already capable of & you gotta remember this is a team that went 2nd round in the playoffs a year before.I mean yes Magic did his thing well for a player not having played in 3 or 4 seasons,i just think that they could have done just about the same without him.
Well, then you weren't watching that team. They were shit prior to his return and exploded afterwards, thanks to him. This wasn't 1995. This was 1996. Different season. The Lakers didn't take the league by surprise at the beginning of 96 like they did in 95.
yes i watched that team very closely, they didnt shock the league that year but they were a playoff bound team & i think they would have been regardless if Magic played or not, like i said he did his thing very well & they would have won more games if van exel & Magic didnt have those suspensions from their Referee incidents. You gotta understand, this wasnt a team that was built to be a top playoff team,it was pretty much a makeshift team that just happened to work.
No one expected Ceballos or Van Exel to be that good & Eddie Jones was so good that he could have been a rookie of the year candidate. End of the day 95 or 96,they were a hell of a team & fun to watch
I never really seen Magic play in his comeback in 95'. Judgin from that pass I seen him make in this, I figured he still had game. But didn't they play him at power forward and not point guard like the old days?
He played both, but he was a point forward even when technically playing at that spot. I did see the comeback and believe me, he didn't miss a beat as far as his mind and passing were concerned. Brilliant player. He was old 36 though and would get sidelined by ankle and knee tweaks and such. However, his strength is passing and he really helped that team's offense flow merely by being on the court.
If he kept that pace up, he could've played until he was 40. He wasn't as good as Jordan when he came back but he would've contributed a lot. He might of even gotten another ring, if he stayed when they brought Shaq and Kobe. But I dont know if they would've traded Eddie Jones, because he was a little better than Kobe at that time. If Magic did stay than he would've mentored both Shaq and Kobe, and it would've been more peaceful than it was before Shaq went to Miami.
100% that they would've traded Jones regardless. Buss doesn't extend non-superstar swingmen to max deals and because Kobe was right there to take his place. Buss was trying to get West to dump Jones from 1997 to 1999. West even tried to trade him for Gugliotta. The Lakers' first real shot to win a title came in 2000. They had too many issues to contend w/ prior to that (Bulls, 2 major Shaq injuries, young Kobe, Del Harris' coaching, NVE's tude).
I remember cedric jetskiin' through the lane (lemme know if thats too obscure) so weird seeing magic run the floor with this team, it's like a man playing with boys.
I absolutely loved this team! I remember those Van Exel lobs passes and 3slike they were yesterday. And I remember Jones taking off from the just beyond the freethrow line in-game w/ a tomahawk. But the downfall to Ceballos's career was the knee injury he got from a San Antonio game. And by the time he was cleared to play, he was traded. But it's ok...Robert "Will Smith" Horry helped get us 3 rings.
The downfall of Ceballos' career was his flakiness and his lack of defense. He also came up small in key playoff games. That Havasu incident was strike 1. The trade for Horry had little to do w/ Ced's knee, truth be told. Horry slacked during the reg season, but was clutch in the playoffs. No brainer of a trade.
He was struggling at the begining of the season they traded him and everybody knew that the team was on the verge of being a top team in the league. You can also thank Horry for throwing a towel in Danny Ainge's face for the trade.
i understand him hating them,he put in good years with them & they dumped him off when shaq came along,in fact eddie jones & van exel left on bad terms too

Check their record before Magic came along and after he came along. They were chugging at a slightly-above-.500 pace prior to his return.

No, no, no. They were a 5th seed and the only reason they got that high was because of Magic's comeback. Read again: 500 team prior to his return.
