Thank you so much, I've had this since my fourth of fifth year in elementary, now I'm in my second year of high school. I actually just thought it was acne that would go away when I got older.. until I found out today what it was. I'll be trying this, so I really appreciate it! (:
actually, keratosis pilaris isn't a skin type but a skin disorder... the body produces to much keratin that stucks on the follicle of your hair. I just think you can't talk about keratosis pilaris as a skin type. For example, when you sweat a lot, it's not called a "skin type" either...
I have a 5 year old son that has chicken skin on the backs of his arms. The doctor has prescribed AmLactin 2x a day everyday. And I will be using your suggestions as well. Thank you.
Thank you I will try your suggestions for my son, he is 5 years old with chicken skin on the backs of his arms. In the mean time I am also using AmLactin on him that the doctor prescribed to use 2x a day everyday.
I have keratosis pilaris, especially on my arms. I bought lemon juice to reduce acne scarring on my face and thought, "why not try it on my arms?" Literally, in under a month, my chicken skin is almost gone and believe me, I had it so bad that I've never worn sleeveless shirts in my life, not even once. I have perpetual farmer's tan because of that. Lemon juice worked for me and my skin is ultra sensitive so I'm sure it will work or for at least not aggravate others' skin. Try it, people.
I never knew what my skin was called or I would be told what it is called but then forget but then i found someone talking about it and decided to research on it turns out that a lot of people have it i thought i was like the only one haha thanks for the tips i will try them out. :)
I am successful at keeping down the bumps, but I want to know what to do about the little red/purple spots that are left afterwards! I avoid picking and the sun, so what else can I do?
Actually exposure to the sun, and even tanning beds, has been known to help with keratosis pilaris. My KP was significantly reduced after spending all day at the beach for two consecutive days. It's just not a highly recommended solution for KP sufferers because of the dangers that come with too much exposure to UV rays.
Hopefully this works ! im in Middle school right now and its my number one insecurity -.- especially when my friends ask me about it . DD: and it sucks 'cos i have it like everywhere so i barely wear shorts or sleeveless shirts .
hi, I commented a while back, I just wanted to tell you that I tried moisturizing my skin so the bumps go away like you said and it did work. I had less but it still didn't completely go away. I went to my regular doctor, not a dermatologist, and he gave me this cream called hydrocortisone valerate and the bumps were completely gone after 2 days. I believe that the only way to get rid of chicken skin is to go to your doctor.
omg finally!!!! u make me feel so much better about my condition!! i really thought i couldnt help it but i feel happy that i can dosomething about now
i think i had this on the back of my arms, my doctor just thought they were little acnes..and gave me pills, but that didnt work. If this is what I had, then I cleaned my arms everyday with Blenish Prone Spectro Gel. And now it is gone, or calmed..it doesnt come back very often. :) So you could try that? Since what I have might be what this is!
i have really bad bumps on my arm and i've been to 3 different doctors and have watched countless youtube videos and almost everyone has had a different answer
like some have been to expholiat or not to expholiate 2 doctors said it was from a lack of vitamine C and that i needed to get out more
but really this girl has it right, this is the exact cause of these bumbs just for anyone who wasn't sure to know,,
CHICKEN SKIN IS AN ACTUAL DISEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT TRUST WHAT PEOPLE SAY, GENETICS DO NOT CAUSE IT. IT IS PROBABLY THE RESULT FROM YEARS OF BEING MALNOURISHED AND THE INTAKE OF CRAPPY FOOD IN AMERICA!
I HAVE CHICKEN SKIN, DANDRUFF, JOCK ITCH, DRY SKIN, AND CRACKED FEET. WHAT DO YOU CALL THAT? THOSE CAN'T BE THERE ON COINCIDENCE, THEY MUST BE THERE FOR A REASON.
what are they gonna do, in 2015 are they going to tell you that jock itch is hereditary? don't trust your doctors!
Keratosis pilaris is not a skin type. Dry skin is not a skin type. Eczema is not a skin type. Zits are not a skin type. They are fungus on the skin that people without a immunity get a 'rash' or breakout from. I don't know why people don't think this is a rash and caused by something. If you get ringworm, you get a rash, again thats not a skin type either, its a fungus!!!! Use anti-fungal soaps and shampoos with pyrithione zinc and use them everyday, you will see a difference I can assure you.
@alliinwonderlandx 'doctors and derms' . How many of them actually have KP? I have been experimenting with my KP for 15 years, I have just 'slightly' more experience they could have and my experience is real, not just books and seminars. I have been using anti-dandruff shampoo and glytone lotion on my skin now for about 5-6 months, now there are patches of clear skin i haven't seen in 15 years. Hey, I have nothing to sell you, doctors and derms have lots to sell you. Believe who you will.
@TheTruthHurtsYup Keratosis Pilaris is not a kind of fungus either. Keratosis Pilaris is a very common genetic follicular disorder manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin.
An excess of the protein known as Keratin, accumulates within the hair follicles forming numerous tiny rough bumps on the skin. Sometimes, these bumps can become irritated causing the follicles to redden excessively. Thus iis not a fungus and you dont "break out" from it because it is not acne. thnx
thank you for these tips!! I guess i've been doing everything wrong! haha when you said to not pick at the kp, I was like" oh damn i need to stop!" but it's hard because i've had it for as long as i can remember and it's become a habit to just pick at them! But i will definitely be going to the store tomorrow for lemon juice and that lotion! thanks again and you are really pretty btw
@alliinwonderlandx Haha I don't like them...thankfully it's not extremely bad. But i've noticed that it clears up on me when i keep lotion on it as much as possible. why does this have to be a skin type?! lol
thanks a lot for your tips, I had this 'chick skin' since i was little, and I kinda thought it'd grow out of it actually it didn't. It put myself such ashame to wear short sleeve, or sleeveless shirts in the summer. Hopefully Your method will work on me, thanks again you'r really pretty.
@DavidB44182 I must have gotten it when I was about 13. It's coming back a bit right now because I haven't stuck to my regimen and because it's so dry outside due to the winter.
I figured that all you KP victims shall know a little tip i have! I did a whole lot of research in the case and i think i know how this substance cloggs our hair follicles. So i'll cut it short. Our bodies struggle to absorb vitamin a and have an intollerance of dairy and wheat so recently i bought vitamin a supplements and swapped milk for soya and i can't begin to explain to you what a difference i saw. When i would eat some cheese i would see it worsen again. Give it a try and let me know :)

This sterilization sucks! Its what causes keratosis.
GMO foods, pesticides and chemicals, trans fats, sugar, synthetic vitamins, processed foods CAUSE keratosis. It is NOT genetics.
Once sterile, you cannot become unsterilized.
