Ali loved to get back at those who embarrassed him. He refused to knock them out and would give them the 'medicine' through the duration of the fight. Leon Spinks also suffered a similar fate in their rematch. Ali could have wrapped it up in 3 but dragged it through the whole 15 rounds. He also repaid Norton for the broken jaw, with 1 of his own.
But whatever his motivation, he was and remains the greatest.

He was entertaining and had great charisma that's why so much buzz surrounded him. Whats rare about Ali is that was an act, he actually took his opponents very serious in the gym. Today, a lot of guys try to talk a lot and be brash like Ali but most of them either do it to convince themselves they are great cause theyre scared.

I vividly remember rooting against Ali because I felt like he talked too much, and I was disappointed when he won. Ali loved to get back at those who embarrassed him. He refused to knock them out and would give them the 'medicine' through the duration of the fight. Leon Spinks also suffered a similar fate in their rematch. Ali could have wrapped it up in 3 but dragged it through the whole 15 rounds. He also repaid Norton for the broken jaw, with 1 of his own.
But whatever his motivation, he was and remains the greatest.

@FlaviusConstantius When Ali beat Foreman he never really trained hard again and just went through the motions as if he knew he never had anything else to prove. And Ali was 36 when he lost against Spinks but did beat him easily in the rematch.

@FlaviusConstantius Foreman destroyed Frazier and Norton in real fights not sparring but how long did George last with Ali lol? Although I am a big fan of Foreman as well. I wouldn't judge Ali in sparring sessions as he rarely showed his best. For example Larry Holmes troubled Ali in sparring before Ali fought Foreman but If Holmes had been Foreman's sparring partner then Larry would have undoubtedly been battered from pillar to post by George lol.
