  • This is really cool WOOOOWW

  • He looks like a turtle when he plays this

  • @getupaa Man....sorry, I don´t think you KNOW the difference between a sax and the straw you got stuck on your brain....sorry man...

  • I know so well my friend Boris, that i can say instead of him fuck "you",music is not a competition ti know who plays good, who plays bad.Music is a way to say what words can't say.And as Boris does it,he is a musician. That's more than the billion saxophonists we ear to,playing their learned scales & stolen licks without any soul. It's not saying this solo is perfect,& Boris himself doesn't like it.Criticize has to be done with brain, not orgullous mind just to put oneself above everybody...

  • to those that say he is bad... he isn't... i mean it was constant notes, but he had rhythm and it wasnt that mindless

  • I guess i dont have an ear for music but the other "structured" solos Ive been seeing on here all sound the same. this guy may not "build" his solos but It sure is different and a step away from all the other solos ive seen so far. Which is why it caught my ear. nice post, voted.

  • Bravo Boris Blanchet!

  • Comment removed

  • is it just me or does it look a little sped up? he is dancing unusually fast

  • cool, super solo, j'aime..

  • lol i agree with saxman. people just wanna see him move his fingers fast. for good solos listen to coltrane , bird or miles

  • yeah this guy doesnt build his solos. all it is his him playing a bunch of notes and it isn't interesting to listen to. I could see why he has no record label or anything.

  • @saxman8666 , great comment, great artistic feeling, probably a great musician. Please "saxman8666", some video from you, with "build solos", with a lot of interseting notes; by advance thank you. Forget that guy, don't loose your time. Give us great music, fine and clever. On "blue note label", why note?

  • @Thouveninpascal yeah i dont have any video. i just can tell between a good jazz player and a bad jazz player

  • when i play i sway and play with feeling.he plays better tht way.if you played you would understand.

  • Loved it. Great soloing

  • Y he puffin his cheek's tisk tisk lol

  • you seem to be a good guy. I'd be glad to meet you.

  • thanks for you kind comment. On wich video should we have the pleasure to see you, and hear you?

  • his sax sucks

    lol

    kidding :)

  • Hey guys, just stop talkin about saxes makin sound... Of course having a good sax will help you to develop a good sound, but everyone has his own personality, and you could play on michael brecker's sax, mouthpiece and ligature and reed, you would not have his sound even tryin to... Just make your own sound, you can surprise yourself !

  • Hi M.Nabzed.

M."surfer8alien" was just asking to me what was the kind of sax played in that tenor solo. You are right, the instrument does't make the artist. You seem to be a master of artistic psychology ; let's have an ear of your music and your "own sound". I promise i'll don't tell anything about your musical material. Thank's by advance.

  • For one sax. made? Selmer Mark VI , of course, the Stradivarius on the saxophone, but expansive. I like Yamaha, 62 or 82 are fantastic and cheap in second hand (in France where Selmer is the master for high level or professionnals). You play sax?

  • Indeed sir, I do play sax. thank you for the recommendations, by the way. At the moment, I'm renting a beat up old Selmer mark VII. I'm looking into others, another selmer, or a yamaha possibly. The one I really want is a Keilworth SX 90 Shadow. It sounds great (in the right hands, of course) and it looks really slick. Unfortunately, it may be even more expensive than a Mark VI...

  • What kind of sax is he using? I'm looking to buy one, and his sounds quite good.

  • I know it's a Selmer made in 1940, but Boris said me that the sax was re-build with diffrent parts.

  • Ah. Gotcha. Do you have any recommendations for one?

  • look at cannonballs..they not only sound fantastic, they also fit extremely comfortable and are aesthetically appealing.

  • why is this sped up?

  • It's not

  • Hey can play stuff... but he don't groove. You can't knock James Carter because of this.

  • hi magicrain505,

you're a James Carter fan; good. Is Carter the best you've encountered?

What is "groove" for you? However, in that band, we learn about music, everybody has allways something to learn. You are probably right, Boris doesn't groove, I don't groove, Dany Doriz does't groove. James Carter grooves. You groove. I'd be glad to hear a video from you. Thanks for your comment.

  • You Go Man Lol.

He's Well Getting Into The Feeling Of The Music :)

  • LOL, he can play! He looks funny though dancing around like that.

  • lol; tu trouves ça drôle? Je vois ce qui peut faire rire? On n'est pas au cirque.

  • maybe he hasn't been signed cuz he dances like a freak. He is awesome though. I gotta give him that.

  • if you think that the dancing is stopping him from getting signed, watch sonny rollins play. He's been signed probably 200 times and released more records than that

  • boris is the guy.boris is the one.what is fun for me there : playing like that at la huchette is out of bounds.ahahah !!!!I recognize my friend as he is.a no bound musician.but listen how much he knows the tradition too.he just have anything else to say.i think he's one of the most important improvisers in France and outbounds.love and respect for you, boris.thanks for the videast and the adder.

  • Thats hard core!

  • Wow, what a powerhouse!

    Excellent work, Boris!

    - from your fan!

  • In france, we had a national service. Boris and I served at the same time in Bayonne, in 1994-95. I liked Jazz, but he loved it, he dreamt about it, and was married to it. there was nothing else in his life but jazz. I am not surprised he has reached that level of professionalism today. he was so modest at that. Well done Boris

  • dude im loving the dancing

    GET AWESOME

  • Damn very nice altissmo range!

  • Ca c'est du jazz, avec un saxeux qui envoie et qui se laisse pas aller à suivre des clichés du genre. 5 étoiles, tout de suite

  • That is so nuts! I'm a tenor sax player, but I am by far no where close to Boris! He is inspiration to me in my playing. Please post more of his videos. Again, he is AWESOME!!!

  • You should just shut up and listen and enjoy, such a bunch of BS comments. If you are any good you don't brag online unless you have a kick-butt video to back it up.

  • shtit that guys good

    so much soul man

    played mate

  • Bravo! Je fais aussi de ténor bientôt au cocervatoire mais je suis loin de ce niveau là... ça n'encourage pas trop :)

Encore une fois bravo c'est énorme.

  • such feeling

  • sounds alright... but this guy's finger technique is pretty bad

  • cant slam on a technique that works.

  • you americans get too technicle ,thats why you all sound the same ,book taught ,unlike your old greats ,ben webster was self taught i bet his fingering wasnt up to your standards eh

  • yeah, if you learn to play your instrument by yourself you also develop your own style and figure out more ways of playing. and if you have no teacher, theres nobody to tell you what to learn next or practise. no one slows you down.

  • im self taught not saying i havent picked up tips from some great players ,but i like my own style and i dont sound like a chordal exercise when i play, and jazz is improvisation where are the rules if its improvisation

  • yeah, but with self taught i meant people that dont go to "bass class" or "piano class" every sunday

  • hi hitmanisback, keep cool man , first Boris is french not american, secondly I've heard your videos, it's nice but keep in mind that everybody has always something to learn; you love Ben Webster, so do I and so Boris does, as Ben loves Bird, and Trane about Ben... Don't thing your style is so original, every artist has his influences, it's easy to see yours, and your mistakes and failures. Anyway , music is peacefull, avoid to be agressive if you don't want to be agressed.

  • eh what are you on about if you read my comments i love this players playing ,i was having a go at some earlier comment that some 1 made on his playing,he has a ballsy style i like ,you should read before you comment my friend

  • helle hitmanisback, I'm sorry to be wrong about your comments, I just didn't understand about the "americans" and theirs "technical" obsessions. When you study jazz or if you teach jazz music, you cannot avoid to study the masters, it is an absolutly necessary work, and the case of Coltrane is dependant or knowledge of scales. An enormous task of technical work. After all, I agree with you, music is the most important, with felling and esthetic approach.

  • i have studied ,i listen to jazz non stop and know alot of players history ,i know all my chord patterns andscales ,from jewish to 7thsect ,i dont belive this should ,be the b all and end all of playing ,

  • oh and if you can tell me my weaknesses id be gratefull ,im not scared of constructive critisism ,post on my vids

  • I have been teaching for a few years, the fact is that all the beginners and students have the same lacks, defaults et difficulties, even in improvisation; every beginners play the same way, with same poorty (a point that critics don't understand). I am not so pretentious to say that I know what you have to do for progressing today, I have enough to do myself in my sax. to progress myself.

  • In any place in the world, you can meet a (good) jazz teacher that can give you the advices and work program to be a better sax. Work, technique, memorise undred solos, pick up solos, play your scat in every key (a Mickael Brecker interview is very instructive, found in the net) Good music .

  • You are right ncodrington. He is playing with Benjamin Sanz quintet and I heard that they may record an album in the near future. You can go and have a look at their myspace page.

  • definately, thanks mate :>

  • umm... i know its not blues but david sanborn kicks this guys tail. search "slam" by david sanborn for a sweet performance...

  • man, i gotta give another comment...the more i watch the more i cant believe! lol. he plays with so much power...especially that altissimo pentatonic scale @ 2:02, that was off the hook man!! :p

  • i cant agree more. hes pretty sweet.

i almost wanna say the altissimo was a blues scale there, its hard to tell, but they're very similar....

  • minor pent with alterd is blues scale very similar

  • WOOOW, this guy is sickkkkk! Amazing! i have a life long quest of finding coltrane-like music...and this aint bad. but remember: the was only ONE Coltrane! :-p

  • This man's name is Blanchet, what's the matter about John Coltrane? Anyway, thanks for your comment.

  • no probs m8. err, yeah i was just saying this tenor player was really coltrane-like! :-)

  • shit man you got some fast fingers
