the main thing the song is about is her relationship with her best friend. apparently, a while before sarah and her husband ash got together, he used to date her best friend. then, when they did got together, sarah and her best friend's relationship was very rocky for a few months because of the whole "dating your best friend's ex" situation. she didn't want to use that person's real name. she found the name adia in the credits at the end of a movie!

@ImbAHaM Actually, not really. Her songs are intentionally left vague. But she explained this one. When she was writing the song, she just needed a three syllable name. She first started with Emily, but she didn't like the sound it sounded and there's already a song named Emily by Simon and Garfunkel. When she wrote this song, she actually said she was inspired by a Kenny Rogers song, though had didn't have much in common with it. Hope that helps.
