  • pete was not lying when he said the backing vocals were mostly shit lol

  • id honestly giveanything to back to the 60s-70s to see the Who one of the best rock bans ever

  • this is so much bullshit. I was at Woodstock and heard every minute of The Who. The point is to enjoy the music, who gives a shit whether anyone was high or not. Plenty of people were and plenty weren't, it just didn't matter. It still doesn't matter, the music is what matters. Granted Woodstock meant a great deal more to those of us alive then but just sit back, forget the neighbors, forget the rent, forget politics and just groove on the music. I only wish we could share how it felt, sorry.

  • @toddfoll If you don't mind me asking- what was it really like?

Some reports say it was no food, rain, mud, no proper toilet facilities whereas some say it was an Aquarian gathering of Utopian peace (but that sounds like bollocks to me).

Can you elaborate- as I've never met anyone (even over the internet) who was at the festival.

  • Townsend said someone handed him some LSD-laced orange juice backstage before he went on and he spat it out when he tasted the chemical. Didn't know one could do that with a drug as subtle as LSD but that's what he said.

  • I love the old vintage rock sound

  • thanks for the photo's

  • Doesnt get any better!

  • I think that Keith Moon's biggest issue was always with alcohol--seems he was hell-bent on self-destruction.

  • @mrsolofeo I wouldn't say "hell bent".....Keith had a lot of emotional problems dealing with his divorce from Kim and being away from her and Mandy...look up his last interview on my channel...Keith is sober, open, and exposed...not the drunken loon of days gone by...I identify with Keith--it's fun partying, but when the party's over, you have to be at ease with yourself and your life...

  • @Alexandernero666 I agree with you. it seems that Keith believed that he was expected to be the goofy clown all the time. i believe he got caught up in the image that he created for himself, and was never comfortable showing his real, honest side. You have to feel comfortable in your own skin--and for Keith--as with so many people--he believed that he had to become the drunken loon--at least in days gone by like you said--to be liked. And it really is sad, because he was such a creative force.

  • Pete Townshend's nose should be a unesco heritage.

  • I don't give a monkeys if they were high or not ..... All hail the mighty WHO !!!

  • actually prefer these less energetic vocals than the movie, more believable

  • I was tripping my face off when I heard this song filling the sky at Woodstock.

  • @TheWoodstockWarrior is that your legacy? hmmm

  • @TheWoodstockWarrior lucky bastard T-T WHY DID I WAS BORN IN 1992??? I SHOULVE BORN IN 1952!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheWoodstockWarrior great for you

  • @THEPOCONOJOECHANNEL I listen only to rock music!! And I'm fucking 14!! A lot of years ago I use to listen to pop music, but then I started to get tired of it... My favorite band is totally The Who!!! And then, of course, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Genesis, Nirvana, AC/DC, The Doors, The Beatles, Rush. My fiends don't understand ANYTHING about rock music...

  • @lyds97 now try the Gipsy Kings for a completion to your musical journey ..let me know what you think

  • @billyboggins cool, mate! they sound awsome! :D

  • the Who I think are kind of under regcognized for their proto-metal sound.

  • Yes, much better than anything subsequent generations have produced, but how do we know this was recorded at Woodstock?

  • ..and Deep purple shamelessly ripped this song in smoke on the water

  • @vivek17s2004 .i don't get the similarity between this and smoke on the water....

  • Its so wrong that people are saying 'they all were high while playing this'

Get your facts right before commenting on the GODS of rock. In 'Amazing Journey', Pete said that he started experimenting with substance after Tommy, while recording of Whos next. Thats because he was a sincere follower of Avatar Meher Baba who was against drugs. This is the high of music. Even Moon had said that at the time of woodstock, he hadnt done any 'artifical' stuff

  • @vivek17s2004 Well actually the story is that someone put stuff in their drinks so yeah they were high while playing this but it wasn't their fault hahaha

  • @hvh823iow

Yes - I think it was on the documentary 'Amazing Journey' that they talk about how all the water was spiked with LSD so no matter what you did you ended up high… they said when they were playing the climax to Tommy, right then the sun came up and the acid really started kicking in, the moment was pure transcendence.. how they played so well in that condition is beyond me! Must have been operating on pure instinct, feeling the music and it played itself. They are amazing.

  • @hvh823iow stop lying, tits of gtfo

  • @hvh823iow

My understanding is that Pete was spiked with a compound known as DOM, aka "STP" which is a psychedelic but lasts 24hr instead of 10-12hr like LSD.

  • @vivek17s2004

They were actually spiked with acid.

  • @vivek17s2004

If you think Keith Moon didn't do drugs, you're an idiot. Even in their early days, Roger left the band several times because of the bands’ drug use. Mainly amphetamines (speed) to stay up playing all night with little sleep. Lots of mods did. However Roger was against it - he found that the band sounded like shit on speed so he fought with them constantly about it. Watch a couple of Who documentaries, it’s all in their own words. Plus - just what do you think killed Keith??

  • @starmartyr11 i've seen all of their documentaries from 'The kids are alright (1978) to Amazing journey (2005).. i mean, keith was a Drunkard... a grade A drunkard.. but the band as whole started experimentation with substance abuse after 60's.... Keith started doing drugs from 70's..

in amazing journey pete says "The only addiction that John had was that of Shopping"

and yea, PILLS ARE NOT DRUGS (i mean, methamphetamine is... amphetamine isnt)!!! if they are, then so is weed! :p

  • @starmartyr11 actually what killed Keith was clomethiazole which is a medication taken to relieve alcohol withdrawl symptoms

  • @truvianni no kidding.. keith took pills by the handful. Call it 'medication' if you want but it's still a drug and of course possible to overdose, which he did. Drugs can be good, drugs can be bad. I've done my fair share and understand both sides.

@vivek17s2004 haha.. pills are drugs, just like pot is a drug, anything that can alter your body function or perception in some way is a drug.. but yes some are mostly harmless.. but you can't possibly categorize 'pills' under harmless, obviously..

  • @starmartyr11 but the pills he took were prescribed medication not ilegal drugs of course the doctor who prescribed them to him said not to take more than 3 a day he took over 30 or that many were found in his stomach when he died in the same room were Cass Eliot of the Mamas and Papas died

  • @starmartyr11 Keith was indeed alcoholic , the who has a performers stop for many years , he was getting so fast and i ve seen a picture of Keith just before this dead , and that was an accident , he took medicine for his alcoholic problem , took a lot , fell to sleep , woke up and was forgotten that he has taken his pils and took some more .Dead by accident .and tell me , Keith Richards has problems with drugs , and even the mamas and papas taking drugs ,

  • @vivek17s2004 it doesnt matter if they were high or not if you enjoy their product.

  • @vivek17s2004 Are you talking about weed? Every rock band that plays decent music has been influenced by cannabis. If you're talking about other stuff, then you may have a point.

  • @vivek17s2004 Moon ate amphetamines like kids eat candy

  • @vivek17s2004 No "artifical" stuff ?... that's just a smart way to avoid the question, weed, hasch, shrooms, opium and more are none "artificial" stuff !!! They are here given to us by Mother Nature and even animals are using them !... Just be moderated and go by the "rules", follow the rituals that goes with each and everyone of them, don't let the drugs take control over your life !... or you'll live HELL !... THAT WAS JUST MY LITTLE PIECE OF ADVICE AND ONLY MY OPINION !

  • Seems an appropriate song for everyone in Egypt today.

  • Far be it from me to not agree with everyone's love of classic music, but I think we all may have forgotten that music must march on. It's a shame that those who perform now don't seem to have the passion for it that their predecessors did, but there are some talented artist out there now. Do your homework before you put others and their preferences down....who cares what they listen to...as long as they listen and feel something.

  • 122 upped it!

  • This is great and its just enough really knowing Moonie was at woodstock fucking rockin out'.

  • You say Lady Gaga, I say The Doors

You say Hannah Montana, I say The Rolling Stones

You say Owl City, I say Led Zeppelin

You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles

You say Justin Bieber, I say Queen

You say Taylor Swift, I say AC/DC

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy & paste it to at least five videos. Dont let the spirit of rock and roll die

  • @MsBarzini I F-ing hear You ! F- lady gue gue and F- that little twirp Bieber WTF! have no kids have any taste in music nowadays or what.

  • They were all high during this. Still kicks ass.

  • omg! fuckin awsume!

  • good stuff

  • Some perspective. Bunch of stoned hippies wallowing in the mud. Then a quartet of some scruffy hoodlums from the west end of London came...

  • all human must be free!!!! All around the world

  • Tommy is such a great album. this is awesome

  • One of the best British rock bands ever!!!!!

  • @Redcoat66 ---dont sell them short---they were THE greatest ever--British, American, or whatever!

  • Nice, simple punky riff that I suggest people scared of the instrument should take on.

    And take it from there...

  • I first saw The Who a year after this - what a show, what a band. They may have been the best live band at the time. Rock at its finest.

  • Just listen to the drumming !!!!!!!!!!

  • Wished I could had been there I remember watching some of it on TV when I was in the hospital with cancer. I was only a kid but this is what real rock and roll is about. Anyone who says different never understood ROCK and ROLL to begin with

no sense of arguing with idiots they are too stupid to learn.

  • @JASONCALEDONIA wow u really dont know what real rock is, if you think this sucks? u most be like tommy: blind, deaf, and unable to speak.

  • @hannnahfraymann you mean that deaf, blind and dumb kid

  • @JASONCALEDONIA ..go to take a large dose of sleeping pills, fuck stick..that way you can get the nice long rest you need and we won't have to hear your stupid ass comments. Oh by the way,go fuck yourself as well!!!

  • 1:21 Impressive work Pete did there!!!

  • Jammamu, did you know Woodstock was supposed to be a sort of hippy peace and love thing?!! Your comments seem almost ironic - what are you doing here? Shouldnt you be listening to the collective works of Adolf Hitler or something?!!

  • @Nostrinian Actually, the Fact that The Who was even at Woodstock was Ironic. Pete really didn't want to be there, and Roger had said something along the lines of "we have music to fight to, why should we be there" How I love irony...

  • sounds like pinball wizard towards the end there

  • Its supposed to alot of songs on Tommy have similarities in them

  • love it its so perfect, and the intro drawls u in rite away

  • Power chords, crushing drum beats and a voice instantly recognizable the Who will live on forever in our hearts and minds.

  • oh, it's good to hear this! i was at Hard Rock Cafe Krakow, there they played Eminem! can you think a world with Eminem as Hard Rock? but when i came to Hard Rock Cafe in Berlin they played thsi song, Purple Haze and Living Loving Maid by Led Zeppelin. God, i was happy!!
