I drove majority of golfs over the years and recently drove the R32. It is a quick great car and the DSG gearbox is brillant, but in my opinion the mk2 golf GTI is best golf to drive with its old school driving. I actually own a 89 golf GTI and although it not 1 of my quicket cars it's deffs my favourite.

Absolutely no GTi is faster than a R32. You are kidding yourself if you think this is true. R32's have so much more torque; not to mention traction off the mark thanks to 4wd. AND... proper launch control using all 4 wheels!!!
@RobBluth ur an complete idiot lets say a golf 3 GTI 2.0 16v has 150 hp, and golf 4 3.2 Vr6 4motion R32 24v has 241 hp, idk what ur driving but the r32 series are always the onces with the most HP and torque
@mandingorivera People are getting more than 400 horsepower simply by going to an APR dealer and having them plug their laptop into the ECU and reflash it... not possible with the R32. My 2006 GTI has more horsepower and torque than any R32 ever will. Hundreds if not thousands of GTIs are faster than R32s because you cannot tune R32s. Deal with it. And learn to spell before you call other people idiots. Idiot.

That's not an automatic gear box. It's a DSG (direct shift gearbox), which is a type of a sequential manual gearbox (SMT) without a clutch pedal. However DSG goes a huge step further compared to a standard SMT, and this is down to the usage of 2 clutch packs instead of one single clutch plate. This effectively allows for the fastest possible shifting amongst all the commercially available gearboxes.
powerslide only last 2 or3 seconds, but drifting can last the hole track until tire wears out, why dont you try drift with a golf with front wheel drive. go back play you playstation or something kid.
and i have tuned my R32 and its night and day difference, bring your GTI any time. this software took 1 sec off 0-60 compared to stock (5.7's)
