Does anyone know when, or if, there is going to be another art of war event? The ruleset of this promotion is the best I've ever seen, and I would love to see more fights like this. When it first came out, I was kinda hoping AoW would be the new Pride, but it hasnt panned out.
sanshou is just a set of rules to a kung fu full contact competition. you can use any traditional kung fu (wushu) techniques in a sanshou fight, as long as they follow the sanshou rules.
@Aristocreiton, not correct. sanshou is integrating many techniques from traditional kungfu. baji and shuajiao for throwing, wingchun center stance, choy li fut punches etc etc. it was carefully studied by the chinese that's why it was so good. not just a set of rules.
Looks like even the chinese are converting to mma, less traditional kung fu. They should make tournaments with actual kung fu, all the moves that are illegal in a mma fight. Wrist locks, and stuff. I wonder how a mma fighter would do against a kung fu fighter who is allowed to use their moves.
@comixgod50 are you serious haha, kung fu against mma,,,,,,be a mismatch...these guys are from kung fu back ground or Shan sho back ground, hence they realise kungfu doesnt work in full contact. Thats why they use Muaythai stlye kicks & strikes...we all end up fightin the same, it just takes some styles longer to get there...
Shame on your ignorance. Kung fu will be the most deadly martial art if it is used in a street fight. Real traditional kung fu is already lost these days. mastering kung fu usually takes longer time than studying muay thai, boxing and BJJ etc.

@1fitkbox, not the same at all. if you seriously learned muaythai and sanshou, you would understand the massive difference. sanshou uses sidekicks more, the principle of fangshung (relaxed stance), integrating punches + kicks + throws seamlessly. muaythai more like roundshouse kicks, jabs and strikes, no throw whatsoever. even the most basic kick is so different,
UFC attracts the top fighters in the world. It does do some boring match ups and these Chinese fights might be more entertaining, but China is years behind the USA when it comes to boxing, behind the thais when it comes to kicking, and brazilians in jiu jitsu. Until they work on their hands, kicking and ground game Chinese fighters may be hard pressed to win against top level international competition.

it looks to me that mma fighters in china have mostly strong san shou and mui thai backrounds mma in the west is strong wrestling and bjj backrounds. i like art of war better because it reminds me of good ol pride before ufc bought it out, i wanna see art of war fighters vs ufc fighters with art of war rules cause its more realistic. i think its funny when ever ufc sais "CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!!!" i just think, ummmmm no, no hes not champ of the world, interesting to see ufc vs aow
@KakalotR9 give it a little bit more time in china for mma to grow and ufc wont be champs anymore, only reason they are is because they buy out the best fighters from other organizations. ufc has grasp of the west AoW has asia and if there smart they wont let there fighters get bought out by ufc. and if they dont then they rival ufc. asia has tons of talent, most of there fighters have san shou backrounds west has wrestling backrounds. wrestling is good but san shou is awesome.

I think the wrestling of these AOW fighters are decent. There was a good throw at 0:48, a good takedown at 0:53, and something that looks like a judo type throw at 0:59. I also like the Sanda mixed with the jiujitsu ground game. It looks pretty cool to me. Give them some time and there's nothing no race can't accomplish. Adaptation is everything . It's too early to judge them now. Wait a while and i think they will be world class. This is a good mma organization and a nice step for China.
@fadedsideways I agree it has nothing to do with the caucosoid/mongoloid phenomon. There are some gpod displays of judo, but the double and legs single legs(free style wrestling) technique is just not there.
@doooobies332 touche, although i just saw a single leg that i didn't catch before at 1:35 this time, but i agree the freestyle wrestling techniques aren't up to par with the ufc and could be improved.. but that doesn't mean i'm going to count them out on their wrestling abilities forever just cuz they suck now. Evolution is going to be interesting for these fighters. I look forward to seeing them evolve into complete fighers.

All the nothern chinese has to do is bulk up and then they can compete with your ufc fighters. Southern is smaller than northern chinese on average by 4 inches at least. Btw, fights seem more brutal n fast paced because they're pretty novice fighters, unaware of certain styles etc. the reason ufc fights seem slower paced is because its the elite of mma, they can't take any risks, ye dig?? Hopin to fight here soon!! Applied already on the site.
Anyway, another reason it looks more brutal besides they are agressive is, they are alowed to use more of their fighting style. Most of these guys are doing Sanda Kung fu, Kung fu does not do well in sport fighting with all the rules, but here there is less rules, so they can use techniques the American audience calls "Fake" or "Ineffective" because it's agenst the rules...
Just the fact that you can kick people on the ground changes everything... Half the positions the UFC guys sit in for a half an hour they could have been killed by a elbow to the back of the head... The rules implied by the UFC changes fighting to a game. These guys would loose in UFC because they would have to constantly think of what they can and can't do...
@GuamKomudo you could stomp and soccer kick in pride. The chineese didnt fare to well there. And there are plenty of tough international vale tudo tournaments for chineese fighters to prove themselves. But guess what, they dont. Chineese mma practitioners have found zero success outside of china because their skill level is subpar.
MMA is just not popular in China, this is changing quickly, but until recently it was not very common. Sanda Kung fu has done well in MMA style fighting, same with Shuai Jiao. Once it becomes more popular it will do better. There are many AMAZING fighters in China, especially stand up, they just need to make these guys interested in MMA.
Theres plenty of rules, its just closer to pride rules. They have very few truly pro level fighters, most AOW fighters have maybe 3 fights to their name, with the exceptions of rolles gracie (now in ufc) and dai shuang hai, Wu hao tian etc. BJJ is only starting there as is mma. Quality show though!!!
I would love to see some UFC guys come over to China and fight some of these guys. That would be epic. I think most UFC guys would be outclassed. Except for the top UFC fighters.
Whilst Art of War is one of my favourite promotions, one has to be realistic. MMA is a business, and the UFC would sign a martian if they thought they could compete. That these fighters are still in art of war pretty much shows they couldn't mix it with the UFC guys. I love the promotion, but no way would most of these guys be able to compete with UFC guys, or even dream guys.
IronPump89, the video has NOT been sped up. You are just used to watching the slow ass fighters in the UFC. Check out some PRIDE videos if you need to see fighters from another promotion that also make UFC fighters look slow and clumsy. Dana White knew that PRIDE fighters were drastically superior to those in the UFC, and that's why he bought it and closed it down...to protect his sorry ass stable of fighters.

This is real kung fu just a mix of the moves from the different styles, hence Chinese mma. The real kung fu is nothing like what you see in the movies or in wushu competitions. Unfortunately it's hard to sort the real from the fake these days. Research Asian history and culture and you'll see why. All styles have advantages and disadvantages. Don't worry about the style as long as you can make it work.
Sanshou/Sanda is there mina dicipline basicly lol, and im sorry but i dont think wingchun straight punches would stand a chance against SPORT MMA fighting.
This is a great show and all, but still there are no real Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Gong Fu, etc.. masters or even elites on any MMA show for that matter... what you see is Chinese boxing that is no wheres near Kung Fu, Wing Chun, etc.. Most true Wing Chun (as well as other Chinese Kung/Gung Fu styles) artists don't fight for display and their moves are too deadly/brutal. Eye gouging, neck hitting, breaks, etc... plus they finish a fight in as few moves as possible, not put on a big show.
of course we have here kung fu...wing chun...man in a ring we cant do all moves we learn in trains..i did kung fu wushu about 6 year and sanda and we do that..who learn this techinikes...off course in ring everyone does what want
yeah but inst so right....maybe a master stepped in he wouldnt fight so good...is different do the moves in forms and training or in a ring fighting because to fight is necessary more than the all moves of kung fu...is necessary spirit of war, and maybe that masters dont fight for show because they arent prepared to fight and wont entry ina ring
masters have practice in fighting.... maybe not the ones you've trained under, but real ones that fight for different reasons... not for trophy's, titles, and money (for the most part).
Do you honestly believe any of those guys are demonstrating Kung Fu, Gung Fu, Wing Chun, etc..? No way. I have yet to see a fight on AoW in which they have Wing Chun fighters.... real ones. Nor UFC, PRIDE, etc.. for that matter.
If someone who was amazing or a master at Wing Chun stepped in the ring, I think they'd tear it up. It's a different style of fighting that what we see.
You can't grapple someone in real life without having to worry about their friends jumping in, etc.... it's nice for points and in the ring for money, in real life though..it will only get you so far. I know grappling, I like it... but it's only good for a 1v1. U can not and will not ever beat up 2 or 3 guys just knowing brazilian jiu jitsu.
My point is.... that U will not find REAL Kung Fu in these competitions.. and if u ever do find someone who's truly good at it enter the ring, I think they will wreck havoc. But many of their moves are illegal in UFC, Pride, AoW, etc.. so it's not exactly fair. Wing Chun will teach u how to take out your opponent, by any means necessary in as few moves as possible. It's not good for spectators who want to see a long flashy fight, and it's dangerous to their opponents. It is awesome though.
yes...man i learn kung fu...but in fights i cant use Kung fu...is complety diferent, i never use some moves like in teory was good, but in a ring is impossible do...off course alot of this guys dont use Kung fu...is only punches and some basic kicks...but some others like Cung le can use Kung fu moves ...and i know because i did kung fu is complete but in a ring is impossbile belive
I dont think its because it dosent work, I think its cause no one wants to put in the time and dedication to make it work. How many people do real Karate in UFC??? One guy, who did Karate sence he was 6 years old... Guess what, hes undefeted. Hes beaten the best of the best, and basically dominated every fight with ease. The problem with the USA is you do have these fake wanna bes. You must train in a asian martial art a LONG time to be effective, but thats our culture, strive to be perfect.
Wing Chun is very effective, so you are wrong Vaxxel. And wannabe's hail from north america, south america, europe, asia, australia, and if antarctica were populated.. there too. Anyone who gets in that ring deserves props. But, I think someone highly trained in Wing Chun.. would do very very well in the UFC if they went outside the box and took some of Bruce Lee's advice to be prepared for different opponents who can't fight standing up and constantly go down, making the fight boring imo

If it's about the practitioner and not the art the teachers willingness to teach should not matter. But you say it does. It MAY be a deadly art, just MAY be. But how would we know if no WC fighter ever fought to prove it? That's the dilemma, crappy training, reliance on forms, static sparring. It's what makes it crap.

sanshou is just a set of rules to a kung fu full contact competition. you can use any traditional kung fu (wushu) techniques in a sanshou fight, as long as they follow the sanshou rules.

@Aristocreiton, not correct. sanshou is integrating many techniques from traditional kungfu. baji and shuajiao for throwing, wingchun center stance, choy li fut punches etc etc. it was carefully studied by the chinese that's why it was so good. not just a set of rules.

Looks like even the chinese are converting to mma, less traditional kung fu. They should make tournaments with actual kung fu, all the moves that are illegal in a mma fight. Wrist locks, and stuff. I wonder how a mma fighter would do against a kung fu fighter who is allowed to use their moves.

Thats why they use Muaythai stlye kicks & strikes...we all end up fightin the same, it just takes some styles longer to get there...

@1fitkbox, not the same at all. if you seriously learned muaythai and sanshou, you would understand the massive difference. sanshou uses sidekicks more, the principle of fangshung (relaxed stance), integrating punches + kicks + throws seamlessly. muaythai more like roundshouse kicks, jabs and strikes, no throw whatsoever. even the most basic kick is so different,

UFC attracts the top fighters in the world. It does do some boring match ups and these Chinese fights might be more entertaining, but China is years behind the USA when it comes to boxing, behind the thais when it comes to kicking, and brazilians in jiu jitsu. Until they work on their hands, kicking and ground game Chinese fighters may be hard pressed to win against top level international competition.

it looks to me that mma fighters in china have mostly strong san shou and mui thai backrounds mma in the west is strong wrestling and bjj backrounds. i like art of war better because it reminds me of good ol pride before ufc bought it out, i wanna see art of war fighters vs ufc fighters with art of war rules cause its more realistic. i think its funny when ever ufc sais "CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!!!" i just think, ummmmm no, no hes not champ of the world, interesting to see ufc vs aow

I think the wrestling of these AOW fighters are decent. There was a good throw at 0:48, a good takedown at 0:53, and something that looks like a judo type throw at 0:59. I also like the Sanda mixed with the jiujitsu ground game. It looks pretty cool to me. Give them some time and there's nothing no race can't accomplish. Adaptation is everything . It's too early to judge them now. Wait a while and i think they will be world class. This is a good mma organization and a nice step for China.

@doooobies332 touche, although i just saw a single leg that i didn't catch before at 1:35 this time, but i agree the freestyle wrestling techniques aren't up to par with the ufc and could be improved.. but that doesn't mean i'm going to count them out on their wrestling abilities forever just cuz they suck now. Evolution is going to be interesting for these fighters. I look forward to seeing them evolve into complete fighers.

Anyway, another reason it looks more brutal besides they are agressive is, they are alowed to use more of their fighting style. Most of these guys are doing Sanda Kung fu, Kung fu does not do well in sport fighting with all the rules, but here there is less rules, so they can use techniques the American audience calls "Fake" or "Ineffective" because it's agenst the rules...

Just the fact that you can kick people on the ground changes everything... Half the positions the UFC guys sit in for a half an hour they could have been killed by a elbow to the back of the head... The rules implied by the UFC changes fighting to a game. These guys would loose in UFC because they would have to constantly think of what they can and can't do...

MMA is just not popular in China, this is changing quickly, but until recently it was not very common. Sanda Kung fu has done well in MMA style fighting, same with Shuai Jiao. Once it becomes more popular it will do better. There are many AMAZING fighters in China, especially stand up, they just need to make these guys interested in MMA.

Theres plenty of rules, its just closer to pride rules. They have very few truly pro level fighters, most AOW fighters have maybe 3 fights to their name, with the exceptions of rolles gracie (now in ufc) and dai shuang hai, Wu hao tian etc. BJJ is only starting there as is mma. Whilst Art of War is one of my favourite promotions, one has to be realistic. MMA is a business, and the UFC would sign a martian if they thought they could compete. That these fighters are still in art of war pretty much shows they couldn't mix it with the UFC guys. I love the promotion, but no way would most of these guys be able to compete with UFC guys, or even dream guys.

People in the West always talk like the holocaust was the worst genocide ever, and it's because they only have Europeans and Americans in mind. @passthebot The Japanese civilians didn't deserve it at all, but Japan as a country had it coming. It's just like how German civilians died when Germany was bombed. If a government starts war and brutalizes civilians in other countries, they are putting their own citizens at risk. That's only one of several reasons why so many people opposed the Iraq War, but hey, the rednecks had to have their way.

@SteveI72 Yes!!! What is the point of revising history? It is all documented by video footage. The english missionaries that were there at the time documented the atrosities, so where is the biases? There's ton of stuff in museums. Japanese government continues to deny the hell of out everything is complete stupidity. Making their their young generation completely ignorant on why the rest of Asia hates their guts. Koreans, Vietnamese and the Filianos hate the Japanese more than Chinese do.

This is real kung fu just a mix of the moves from the different styles, hence Chinese mma. The real kung fu is nothing like what you see in the movies or in wushu competitions. Unfortunately it's hard to sort the real from the fake these days. Research Asian history and culture and you'll see why. All styles have advantages and disadvantages. Don't worry about the style as long as you can make it work.

This is a great show and all, but still there are no real Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Gong Fu, etc.. masters or even elites on any MMA show for that matter... what you see is Chinese boxing that is no wheres near Kung Fu, Wing Chun, etc.. Most true Wing Chun (as well as other Chinese Kung/Gung Fu styles) artists don't fight for display and their moves are too deadly/brutal. Eye gouging, neck hitting, breaks, etc... plus they finish a fight in as few moves as possible, not put on a big show.

there has yet to be a true wing chun master or kung fu master for that matter in UFC, Pride, K-1, Art of War, etc....
You see plenty of Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Chute Fighting, etc... masters though.
I know a lot of the Wing Chun and other forms of Kung Fu moves are dangerous and meant to defeat your opponent in as few moves as possible.
If a true Wing Chun master stepped in...he would kick @ss and do very very well.
But also, the true masters don't fight for show..it's a way of life for them.

yeah but inst so right....maybe a master stepped in he wouldnt fight so good...is different do the moves in forms and training or in a ring fighting because to fight is necessary more than the all moves of kung fu...is necessary spirit of war, and maybe that masters dont fight for show because they arent prepared to fight and wont entry ina ring

masters have practice in fighting.... maybe not the ones you've trained under, but real ones that fight for different reasons... not for trophy's, titles, and money (for the most part).
Do you honestly believe any of those guys are demonstrating Kung Fu, Gung Fu, Wing Chun, etc..? No way. I have yet to see a fight on AoW in which they have Wing Chun fighters.... real ones. Nor UFC, PRIDE, etc.. for that matter.

If someone who was amazing or a master at Wing Chun stepped in the ring, I think they'd tear it up. It's a different style of fighting that what we see.
You can't grapple someone in real life without having to worry about their friends jumping in, etc.... it's nice for points and in the ring for money, in real life though..it will only get you so far. I know grappling, I like it... but it's only good for a 1v1. U can not and will not ever beat up 2 or 3 guys just knowing brazilian jiu jitsu.

My point is.... that U will not find REAL Kung Fu in these competitions.. and if u ever do find someone who's truly good at it enter the ring, I think they will wreck havoc. But many of their moves are illegal in UFC, Pride, AoW, etc.. so it's not exactly fair. Wing Chun will teach u how to take out your opponent, by any means necessary in as few moves as possible. It's not good for spectators who want to see a long flashy fight, and it's dangerous to their opponents. It is awesome though.

yes...man i learn kung fu...but in fights i cant use Kung fu...is complety diferent, i never use some moves like in teory was good, but in a ring is impossible do...off course alot of this guys dont use Kung fu...is only punches and some basic kicks...but some others like Cung le can use Kung fu moves ...and i know because i did kung fu is complete but in a ring is impossbile belive

I dont think its because it dosent work, I think its cause no one wants to put in the time and dedication to make it work. How many people do real Karate in UFC??? One guy, who did Karate sence he was 6 years old... Guess what, hes undefeted. Hes beaten the best of the best, and basically dominated every fight with ease. The problem with the USA is you do have these fake wanna bes. You must train in a asian martial art a LONG time to be effective, but thats our culture, strive to be perfect.

Wing Chun is very effective, so you are wrong Vaxxel. And wannabe's hail from north america, south america, europe, asia, australia, and if antarctica were populated.. there too. Anyone who gets in that ring deserves props. But, I think someone highly trained in Wing Chun.. would do very very well in the UFC if they went outside the box and took some of Bruce Lee's advice to be prepared for different opponents who can't fight standing up and constantly go down, making the fight boring imo

You need to listen... There are people now days that dont teach right, or are in it for the money. Go to a real wing chun school, at a stretch go to China and fight one of the wing chun guys. They are not a joke, yes some are fruad. But your saying Ip Man wasent good at wing chun??? lol Funny how hes famous for being badass... Dont see how that happend, if he really sucked, he probly wouldent be famous... WC is good, just find a good teacher, its not the style, its the user(Not saying you suck)

I never said Yip Man sucked, I said that it's a shame his art went to shit because he was such a nice guy. And you're making it seem like theres something secret about WC. If it's about the practitioner and not the art the teachers willingness to teach should not matter. But you say it does. It MAY be a deadly art, just MAY be. But how would we know if no WC fighter ever fought to prove it? That's the dilemma, crappy training, reliance on forms, static sparring. It's what makes it crap.

Oh I get it. But there is definatly a time and place for forms. Alot of western cultures dont even know what forms are for, they just dont understand so they assume its stupid or dumb... But real schools have hard sparring as well, full out gear. To explain better about the teacher thing... I dont care how good you are as a idividual, if your teacher isent teaching... How can you learn WC??? I mean styles, no style is better, but if you have a dumb guy NOT teaching you the style then it sucks.

I understand. But whatever you say, forms are ineffective, and use beside relaxation is pure stupidity. Like I said, it may be a good style, but there has been no evidence whatsoever so you cant just say it's a better style than muay thai with it's hard training, boxing or sanshou.
