@maarakailet1 Doesn't matter, you never shake anything that tiny. They can't even hold their heads up when they are first born. Mammal or not. Never, ever shake a baby... anything.
@whhhhite A little "wiggling" like that won't hurt. That's mild compared to what often happens to eggs in a nest when the mother is sitting on them. What you should absolutely avoid is breaking away pieces of the shell or trying to help the duck reposition itself so that it can get out more easily. Its struggle to get out of the shell makes it stronger and better prepared for life in a shell-free world.
i have found a egg in my garden just one we thought the ducks might come back back they didn't. 3-4 days later i have the egg in a little nest and i have a light shining over it! what do i do next????? HELP!!!! PLEASE
Yes, it can be a problem for the bird. Breaking out of the shell is good exercise that helps the bird to build strength for survival in the real world. If you do the work for it then it won't build enough strength to be able to survive outside the shell. If it's too weak to hatch then it likely won't be strong enough to survive if you do help it out.
Sometimes it seems cruel to just watch the poor thing struggle but that's what's best for the bird.
Mostly just for statistics. I keep track of where the eggs came from and when they were picked, the weather that day, etc. If I can't get my usual feed and I get a batch of bad eggs from the period with the substitute feed then I know not to buy that feed anymore, for example. I also have my ducks in two separate areas at the moment. If one bevy's eggs aren't hatching then I know to look for problems there.
@Gorepwn Wt im tired of doucehs like you saying that religious people are stupid, how bout YOU go get some education on how not to judge people on things that you CANT prove.
I really want to hatch ducklings but my parents said no. Does anyone have any ideas on how to convince them? And Do you know what kind of cheap stuff i should buy?
If your parents said no, because they think that u aren't responsible ennough, do some work around the house or do any thing that shows heavy responsibility. Do this for quite awhile (maybe a couple weeks) and then tell your parents, you think you are responsible enough to have a duck as a pet. OR just ask your parents waht you can do to convince them that you are responsible. that doesn't always work and I am not guaranteeing you this, but this is how I convince my parents.
Great Video, But I Dont Think It's Wise To Have Not 1 But 2 People At The Hacthing, As The First Thing The Duck See's Moving It Thinks That Is Ist's Mother.. So it will be confused. :S
I don't think ducks, especially Pekin ducks, have such strong familial bonds. The ducks that I have hatched seem to be the most contented, least aggressive ducks I have. So if I've done anything wrong then I must have done enough right to overcome it.
I think the first thing this duck actually saw was me looking at it through the window of the incubator. I don't think it saw me as its mother, I think it thought it was watching TV.
i used to have a pekin duck, his name was Dawson he died the day after we got him a female gf, we cried and cried and cried. We were so close to him, he was like our best friend.
You shouldn't have kept it out, duck eggs espically should be left in the incubator while they are hatching because they need a alot of humidity and the tempurature to stay constant.
I didn't keep it out for very long. Actually, my healthiest, strongest ducks have been 13 and 25. There is a lot of conflicting information about best practices in hatching and raising ducks but experience has proven to me that ducks are quite flexible when it comes to temperature.
No. The only time I helped a duck hatch is when I had one that hadn't properly developed part of its bill. It didn't survive but it had a few good days after the hatch.
I don't recall why I took it out but it was only out for a few minutes, it was in a warm room, and it has grown into a strong, happy, healthy duck.
Well that is only true if you are not a novice at hatching and have the humidity high enough. That has been the only reason I have had to help any out when I first started hatching I could not get it right and had to help several get unstuck. They are all now happy healthy egg laying fools LOL also that being said if duck wasn't stuck it should not have been out, it is not so good for them to hatch in room temp. air. Thankfully it is a strong healthy duck now as stated above.
I have an incubator and a brooder. The incubator has an egg turner. If a duck hatches in the incubator it could get stuck in the egg turner so they have to be moved before they're hatched. It was quite a while ago but I'm sure this video was taken in the move.
