I love that RENT is available for high schools to do, but it's too heavy of a show for them to perform. You need to have actors who are completely able to capture their part. Unless it's a magnet school or straight up performing arts school, I don't think it should be done. I mean, this guy is good, but he's so nasaly and too raw. There's not enough control in his voice. And Mimi is just...wrong. Her characterization is completely off. That's just me though.

I wish we were alowed to do Rent at our school, but we live in an extremely upity, conservitive, homophobic area, and the parents would throw a fit about their kids doing a play with this kind of content. A lot of kinds in the theatre department would love to do this play, though.

shouldn't one song glory have been the audition song for roger. This is my all time favorite song from any musical because of the emotion that it brings, and this kid goes over and under the pitch all throughout the song. Sorry to say but you treated it as just another song, and they could have definitely picked someone better. I would have killed to have done this play in my school before i graduated.

My school is doing Rent next year, and though I am quite excited, I almost feel like Rent should be left to the Broadway stage. For instance, the performers are good for high school and stuff, but they're never going to be able to live up to people's expectations because of the original show, and it just makes them look worse than they actually are.
