I don't like live to work. That job means like 12 hrs a day 7 days a week or some shit like that. In a job I don't care much about a 15 minutes break, but I do care when we're talking about 12 hrs. I work 8 hrs a day with 2 days off & thank you very much.
They are paid more because they are A) exposed to slightly more dangerous conditions with less support than our troops (They aint all in body armor, for example). Otherwise I don't really know. I do know most members of Blackwater are crazy ex-SF and ex-Rangers that feel they havn't done enough.

I know a guy who went there to work for a year making 11 K (tax free) a month.
He told me the best thing to do is to stay within the green zone and to avoid the red zone.

only security contractors are armed the rest ie. truck drivers, mechanics are not armed whatsoever..
