i am fixin to do color guard next year....and i might be the only guy!! bein in the region of texas that i am in....will be a shock. They arent used to sein guys doin this kinda thing!!! i think it will be fun though!!! :)
CruzToxic, that is exactly what happened to me to. I played trumpet my first year of marching band, but I hated it. I decided that I would try out 4 the drumline the next year and I made it on tenors. I had a lot of fun for the rest of my high school marching band career, but my real dream was 2 join the color guard. Now I'm in my first year of college and i think im going 2 try out 4 a winter guard. You never know what ur made of until u try!!
I graduated from H.S back in 1997 and I was a member of my high school marching band but played drums but the love wasn't there. I remember during practice, I would hang out mostly with the Color Guard because that is where my heart was but because I was a guy, I was not allowed to join. I learn how to spin both a rifle and flag from the girls in the guard and to this day, the skill is still stuck to me and the love is still there. I wish I was able to join some sort of guard today
@CruzToxic Depends on where you live, but there are some DCA Drum Corps that you could join now, as they don't have an age limit, so you could join a guard today :). Idk where you live, but if your near Pennsylvania, there's a corp called The Reading Buccaneers.
@CruzToxic - i was the same way.. graduated in 97.. played clarinet.. wasn't allowed to do guard... when i graduated i marched in reading buccaneers color guard.. been in guard ever since.. was with the corps for about 10 years.. marched independent winter guard, and now i teach a successful winter guard of my own!
I was the first and only guy on my schools color guard (until a bunch of people saw all the attention I got and joined) but it's great and actually how I met my girlfriend
that's cool. this year we had recuited a few guys but i think their friends got to them because they didn't show up. =( and the sad thing was they were excited to try it because it's different and challenging and guys tend o be really good and spinning. lol most need some work w/ the dancing but it's still great.
Good Job for being the only guy! Being a guy on the team of all girls is really tough but it teaches you to be stronger. I am a guy and I was color guard during my high school years. It's fun! People talks smack about color guard for being twiller and weak but they don't know that it hurts when a 6 feet poll smacks you in the face! So Good Job!

good for him. like i know so many band guys that would mess around with our flags sabors and rifles, and they were really good. the only reason they did not join was because the band director, did not let them.
so more power to you, and guy members really fun and creates awesome tricks which adds up to more points at comp.
Hey! I forgot where it is but color guard is traditionally an all male thing. So, it's pretty standard to have a guy but because of the stigma high school kids give it, it's becoming predominantly female. This kid isn't gay or anything. He's actually got lots of balls to stand for marching band and color guard in spite of the persecution he'll get from people.
Kudos to him though, I quit marching band after the first day. It takes a lot of dedication.
I'm the only guy in my school for winter guard. Ima be the first guy along with our drum major.
