yeah I agree with both of you guys about ppl complaining about the newer NIN stuff or new fans that never heard the older industrial type albums such as PHM and the electronic hard rock Broken EP and TDS being so amazing. Trent's music has always been true to himself and how he feels not whats cool at the time, so i find that real cool in an artist. Reznor is just badass.
Sure, NIN is still "OK" but they are nothing compared to what they used to be. Most new nin fans probably have never heard of the early stuff. I'm sure a lot don't even know about the Broken album (my personal favourite)

To each his own, I thought the slip was decent. I am just saying, although they are still better by and large than the majority of mainstream artists, they'll never recreate what they did with early NIN. Those albums were legend, new NIN is great at best. You know what I'm saying?
I'm a relatively young fan, and started with "With Teeth" (which I hear has a bad rep, for some reason). Since then, I've discovered all of NINs work, from Broken to the Slip, and though I love it all, his most recent work is what resonates within me the most. Fragile, Year Zero, the Slip ... are epic to me, more so than his first couple of albums. Sure, I probably belong to a different generation, but that just goes to show how context is important in defining what we believe is good art.
