  • I set the PS3 to 720p. But when i play (PES 2010 / 2011, MW2) the quality is really bad. Why might that be?

  • Excuse mate,

I have got problems with the video settings.

When I plug in the hdmi cable I turn on pressin cmdF2 and everything is black.

How do I change the settings on the ps3 if I can't see anything??

And if I can connect the ps3 on a Hd TV what settings do I have to change?

I do have to tick out 1080 from the video settings??

I appreciate your help cause I m nearly goin mad

  • @musetv13 go to your tv and the video settings and make sure that the "720p" checkbox is enabled and the "1080p" checkbox is NOT enabled. After that plug it back into the 27" iMac (must be the 27" model) and turn it on then after a couple seconds press "command-f2". Now I noticed that sometimes my screen would still just show up black for a bit and go back to the computer... but just keep trying and it should work. Good luck!

  • Why do people call everything 'lagg'?

  • Does it run at 1080p?

  • Can u save urself playing then post on a website

  • this is why i have decided to get a pc so much easier to just buy an HD monitor cheaper too :)

  • but there is lag?

  • @poiuyhn there's ALWAYS lag. just depends on if there is enough to bother you or if it's so little you can't tell. this didn't bother me.

  • CAN THIS WORK ON A MACBOOK 13 INCH 2006 MODEL

  • @sonofevil2009 no. ONLY 27" imac or 27"/24" cinema display

  • is it 1080p ? or just 720p ?

  • anyone knows whether u can play ps3 on the 2010 21.5 inc imac or not ?

  • @ChrisJackass1995 just 27 i believe

  • does it work on my iMac (2008 version) 24'' ???

  • @impareggiabile unfortunately no. the 24" doesn't have mdp input

  • rocket 5's! nice speakers!!! i got the pair too but spanish inports so there called pearl 5's :)

  • hey i haven't tried this but i think if you want to get 1920x1080 from ps3 to the imac is to change the imac screen resolution to 1920x1080, but i haven't tried it it just seems like another way lol

  • 2 things on my wish list:

    1) 27" iMac

    2) a PS3

  • hi

    how with sound?

i mean did you use your KRK monitors with ps3 connected to your imac? how?

    thankyou

  • Listen mate, will my PS3 work in 1080 or its only 720?

  • hi quick question. WIll ps3 play on a imac icore 3?

  • Are you still able to run programs in the background or does it turn the imac into just a display. I am recording now with a hauppauge but I am getting a 27"imac and can't find out anywhere if I can record without the hauppauge. Please let me know whenever you get a chance thanks

  • nope i tried with my 2009 21 inch imac and it didnt work so then i tried on my 24inch imac 2009 and it worked and my new 2010 27inch imac

  • does this work on imac 21"

  • ay i have the same mac haha

  • i bought an hdmi to vga cable and that hooks up to a vga to my computer. Im trying to get it to work on my mac pro

  • where did you buy it? need answer fast! PLS!

  • Hey dude ;) I have mine hooked up to my imac with the kanex xd and I can get sound through my sony speakers via the 3.5mm jack, but when I switch in system preferences to my krk's nothing happens?? any ideas?? ;)

  • Is there any way to play at 1080p?

    Thanks.

  • @Wiilovewii no... apples fault.

  • does the core processor make a difference on the performance of the game?

  • so this allows you to hook up your ps3 but what if you wanted to hook up a hd cable box at the same time?

  • @TongueKissinGators for sure.

  • Cool, I think I'll look into it. Is there any way to get 1080p? But I guess fullscreen 720p is ok, too.

  • is it possible to play a ps3 game with a mouse and a keyboard? do you have any delay between pressing a boton and the imac as a display?

    PD:sry for my english

  • It wouldn't have any lag, its basically a regular tv input port, and it has no effect on your system whatsoever because it uses a different bus to go to the display instead of using your computer, which basically means you cannot capture it at all.

That mini display port should be just hdmi, because thats what it is, only its appledized

    hyuk

  • If I had an iMac, I don't even know why I'd have a PS3.

  • im having trouble getting the audio to work through the imac?

is there anything special you have to do to get this to work?

  • @stevekempnich Go to the settings, then audio, then make sure the audio is going out the HDMI. Hope that helps

  • playing ps3 on 21,5 iMac through the dr. bott digital video link adapter?

    it's possible?

  • @DBZghgh yes its possible the 21.5" imac has an Mini DisplayPort like on the 27" imac so yes its fully possible =D

  • you have Dr. Bott | Digital Video Link for 27" iMac 720p HDMI?

  • great review, answered a lot of my questions. btw, most ps3 & xBox games are native at 720p so by using this wont loose any resolution.

  • is it full HD? and can you record gameplay??

  • @billze6 Unfortunately no, If you use the quicktime recording cam, it will only monitor and record what the computer itself is going, (which in this case while youre playing your ps3 or xbox, your computer is resting at desktop home screen, so thats all it would be recording) so that sucks

  • Where'd you buy it from (link to a website?) Also does it come with an HDMI cable or is it just the box?

  • can you record your gameplay with a regular screenrecording app while playing?

  • yoooo was that an Apogee Duet to the left of your iMac? lol

  • @shitheadmuthafucka yesir! love that thing.

  • is this method full hd?

  • hi is this works ong imac 24" with mini display port?

  • @ayam13yca i'm not sure. The 27" imac is the only thing I have tried it on. I'm sure you can find out on dr. bott's web site

  • question... so you can't control the brightest when playing or change mode of the display.. anything? i guess you need to do that just before switching to the ps3

  • @migeru29 actually, you can control the computer while playing the ps3. Obviously, you can't see anything that is happening (since your on your ps3) but your computer is still completely running in the background. You can play/pause music in itunes, skip forward/backward songs, control the brightness and volume, etc. Its very handy to use the keyboard buttons at the top. Hope this helps.

  • ISNT THERE A CHEAPER ADAPTER :(?

  • @alejo3344mac There are some SLIGHTLY cheaper alternatives like the eyetv's, but they come with the consequences of a big lag and crappy viewing quality

  • Awesome video bro. I can't wait to hook this up for myself! Yo, i'd love for you to join our Social Network for Gamers.

It's called GAMERVILLE and it's hosted by The UGL. Hit up UGLpros(dot)com bro. Peace and keep the nice videos coming!

  • PS3 ON BED NOT A GOOD IDEA

  • @ziptieTV agreed. was only put there for the video

  • iMac 27" + Ps3 + KRKs 0,o

    amazing setup, m8!

  • @theZwieBug haha thanks man

  • thanks bro for this helpful tutorial :)

The prob is that my tv supports only DVI and the option of changein into 720p was not shown. Thanks bro, gotta meet my neighboor to set up my ps :)

  • Hello Brother,

Look i have an imac 27 too, a ps3 for sure and yesterday my Dr. Bott HDMI Digital Video Link was delivered. Unfortunately i don't know, how to set up my PS3 to be able playing my ps3 on my imac screen. You mentioned to set the ps on 720p on my TV, but i can't find the setting for it :( please i need urgent your help. Your help is very necessary for me, i would thank you a ton :)

  • Step 1) Plug in ps3 to your tv through the HDMI port.

Step 2) Go to the settings column in the ps3 main menu and go down to "display preferences" (might be display settings etc.)

Step 3) Change resolution output to 720p and disable the other options

Step 4) Turn ps3 off and try it again with your imac

Make sure that the ps3 has been on for a good 5 seconds before pressing the Command-F2 button. Hopefully that helps.

  • why there are pixels? 720p does not means it should look like that when watching close.. there must be a problem with that converter then

  • typically you would be correct on a hd television.... but this isn't a tv, it's an Apple iMac 27" and its resolution is FAR higher than a HD tv.... SO that being said, the 720p input is then upscaled to fit a 2560x1440 (rather than 1344x756 which is the standard 720p). This causes the image to look "pixely" when sitting close to the screen... it will be like this with ANY converter for the 27" iMac since it's input will only support 720p and not 1080p. hope this helped

  • hmmm... i guess to scale 1080p to 1440p is less visible. but 720p to 1080p is more visible.. or... maybe the imac scaler sucks.. because my friend have a 30 inches dell display with 1600p! and he even scale wii games (1440p) and you can hardly tell the difference.

  • well like i said in the video, the pixely look is minor and i was just being picky. if you sit more than 3 feet back from the screen you can see it at all. and it's actually not the iMac's scaler... iMac's don't have built in scalers. Its the 3rd party product (in this case dr. bott's) scaler. And i whole heartedly agree that it would look better on a 30" dell since it can have more pixels it would be able to support a higher input resolution.

  • did you try bluray movies?

  • i just did my research and dr boot doesn't have any scaler.. it's just an hdmi to mdp converter, that's it.. the only way to watch 1080p would be using an external scaler which can do 1080p to 1600p then we need a dual link dvi to mdp converter.. but you will not only be able to get 1080p but also upscale to 1440p and not just double the pixels.. obviously there are scalers capable of that. .but maybe not external ones

  • This is sweet. Can you not play in 1080p?

  • Unfortunately no. And as far as I know (I have been in talks with several different manufactures for 27" iMac converters) 1080p input will never work because the imac's native screen resolution will not support that input. So these companies have to just make them at 720p output and then scale the images up to fit the screen

  • Oh. That sucks. Still, 720p is better than standard definition, so I can't complain.

  • Yes this is what I was discussing in the video. You must hook the ps3 back up to a tv and go into the display settings and change the output to 720p. Then after you've done that hook it back up to your iMac, turn it on, wait for a few seconds and then press "command-f2". Hope that works for ya

  • Hi I've the dr bott Video link but I don,t see the video, II hear the sounds only.

    Can Help me?

    Thanks

  • Try what I said to do in the vid. Plug it back into your tv, change the display output to 720p, and then try it on your iMac again. I had the same problem until I did this. Hope that helps.

  • Nice vid 5*

Would you prefer to play on the iMac?

  • Over a 50" tv (like I'm used to)? No. But when I leave the house for college next semester then this will be great.

  • Very nice video.

I can't seem to find the one of the xbox 360.

Do you have the link by any chance? Thanks.

  • Yes, I just put it in the description for ya
