  • This animated series has made so many references to classics already and it's only in the midst of the second season. This song comes from my favorite musical The Music Man and when I first heard the referenced song in this episode I was sold to becoming an official Brony haha. Looking forward to seeing e19!

  • Ya got trouble here in Ponyville! That's right; Trouble with a capital T, which rhymes with C, and that stands for Cider!

  • wow, i didnt think,,,, i mean i,,,, theres simply no words, it fits perfect, i wonder if they actualy knew when they did the song, that it would fit this perfect lol, just goes to show that its not realy a little kids show lol, i mean look at read it and weep, and the ball scene, il be impressed with anypony on here if they knew right off the bat where that was from, the ball scene in read it and weep

  • Wiiin. XD Although I'm afraid my view of The Music Man has been ruined by visions of ponies prancing around.

  • "Music Man", this is beautiful...

  • wow damn it ! you've got a deal !

  • Words cannot describe the sheer amount of pure win that is contained in this....

  • You were NOT the only one who thought this. :D

I admit the video was so-so at first (forgiven, as you had little footage to work with), but as soon as the crowd started chanting, I was sold. Well DONE, sir. xD

  • how can this be referenced in a kids show?

  • @buddatobi Because the previous writers of kids shows didn't have the stones!

  • @buddatobi If you're asking how, schematically, well, it involves writing a song that is musically similar but not identical to 'Trouble'.

If you're asking how it can be a kids' show with an obvious reference to a movie that only adults have seen or are old enough to know about, well, I think the answer is in the question.

  • And all week long your Ponyville youth'll be frittern away, I say your young stallions'll be frittern!

  • DUDE 17 THOUSAND VIEWS IN ONE WEEK!!!!!

  • @ramjet94 LIKE A BOSS!!!

  • @weirdaljedifan2 no LIKE A FAUST!

  • Do Passamaquoddy next from Pete's Dragon.

  • @TheGamerDon OICwatUdidThere

  • Love

  • well done:) i love this.

  • Think I'll bring back "So's your old man!"

  • horse sense, haha

  • Aw, great. The Flim Flams are here. Now Pinkie needs 76 trombones!

  • Captain Billy's Whiz Bang does exist

  • I feel like they should be more scandalized by horserace gambling where they set right down on the horse.

    Just a thought.

  • MLP made me watch this movie... It's great :D And I love this song. The video couldn't be better ^^ Awesome job :3

  • Musicman!

  • Ha! "Horse Sense"

  • 1:55 i see 2 bon-bon one on the left and one on the right :O

  • @mhdoom they ran out of ideas for ponys in that part haha

  • LOL perfection XD And no, you're not the only one who thought of it. :D

  • @cyhiraethbanshee Well, everybody thought of it x3

The MLP staff totally made that reference to the Music man, that's obvious ^^

  • I feel bad that I've never seen this movie. This must be rectified.

  • Honestly there's nothing wrong with fritterin

  • It's funny that both song last almost the same

  • I love this

  • 0:47

Not MY son! Overly Protective Parent Pony time!

  • :D Thank you so much for this. I had to pause the episode just to squee because this was the song going through my head while the flim flam brothers were singing.

  • I LOVE THIS. Just love it!

  • You did this amazingly well. Much love.

  • Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes. Being from 'River City' myself, I immediately thought of this when I saw this episode xD Glad to see I wasn't the only one!

  • ...

    Yes.

    So much.

  • Don't worry, ponies gave up playing pool ages ago. It's not exactly made for hoofs, you know?

  • Glad you did this, but it's kind of funny how the audience is horrified and mortified in the original piece, but in MLP, they clearly experience feelings of hope and anticipation. Really clashes! :P But still, glad you did this.

  • BRAVO!! The Music Man is one of my favorite musicals of all time and I loved how they paid tribute to it in the show. The lipsynching here matched perfectly, great job!

  • Sounds like pool is quite a bad practice in Ponyville.

I don't blame them for the fact they don't have fingers...

  • 0:55 That oughtta be real offensive.

  • @TeamRocketRockin It worked, didn't it?

  • YES I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DO THIS

  • This has been my favorite MLP Broadway reference by far. By very, very, very far. :D I can't wait to see what show comes up next!

  • I seriously thought I was the only one who thought this XD

  • OMG YES!

  • i kept thinking of this song when it playing.

  • some one should just remake the whole play with ponies for LOL

there are so many great songs in this play.

  • Comment removed

  • The Funny Thing is: i was just in a play for this XD

  • Love this. The sync is perfect!

  • I was thinking monorail but this was great lol

  • @animefan809 Actually, Monorail was based off this song too!

It's always that straw hat that does it.

  • These Ponies seem awfully happy about all the trouble they've got.

  • We got trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with C and that stands for CIDER!!

  • What a great job of mixing this up to go with the musical. I certainly thought of this when I watched it. Good job :)

  • Next Celestia will be parodying Camelot.

  • I don't really hear the similarity, but I like the Pony version better anyway.

  • You're one of the handful of people who did. Everyone else thought "monorail".

  • @Rubberman202 Which is itself based on this. What they teach kids these days...

  • @Earthenfist Indeed... Hell, everyone knows the phrase "I'm here to kick ass and chew bubblegum! And I'm all out of gum!" from Duke Nukem, but it's originally from the movie They Live!

  • @Earthenfist Not to mention, I think more people are familiar with Amish Paradise than the song it's parodying, Gangsta's Paradise.

  • @Rubberman202 I thought of this too.

  • @Slashthekitsune Actually, I thought of Monorail. I didn't even know this existed until after I looked it up (after watching the pony episode).

  • ...ITS OVER 5,000!!!!!...views on youtube. Good job dude. keep it up.

  • Glad I'm not the only one who saw the episode and made the connection.

  • Trouble with a capital T, and that rhymes with C, and that stands for CIDER!

  • You got over 3,000 views IN ONE DAY!!

  • I prefered the MLP FIM version. ^_o

  • Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this.

  • Holy cow...I hadn't seen The Music Man before, but watching this I realize why so many people compared the two songs.

  • Now we need one made with the Simpsons monorail song.

  • @DarthBobCat that has been done

    /watch?v=_TFimgKJaZM

  • CONFOUND THESE SHOWTUNES! they drive me to DANCE!

  • YES!

  • I still say that MLP is on a mission to bring back showtunes for the next generation. Great to see MLP making references that drive bronies to go find classic movies.

  • I found this weird and bewildering. But that's my normal reaction to the show and fan content related to it so that means it's good. I guess.

  • This is exactly what I thought of when I saw this episode.

  • Of course it would be hard to pitch a marching band in Ponyville, Pinkie Pie already has that covered.

  • Is the audio from the 1962 film with Robert Preston?

  • @dogman15 eeeeeeeyup

  • @weirdaljedifan2: I can't see how this song (and the way it was storyboarded) WASN'T a reference to The Music Man.

  • @weirdaljedifan2 I knew this was coming. It was just too obvious that it was supposed to be similar to music man.

  • very well done and SO ADORABLE! ;D

  • OMG, this is just perfect

  • @weirdaljedifan2 This was totally the first thing that came to mind when I watched the episode!!!!

  • I was thinking of making this, but then realized how lazy/terrible of a video editor I am. Glad someone else did it though!

  • Wait, this song was sung by villans. So does this make it the first official FiM villan song?

  • @manfandan I suppose it is...sweet.

  • @manfandan that's right. :3 on the villain scale they're up there with Trixie!

  • @manfandan yep *juding by g1 mlp we've got a long ways to go - we still need a movie but that's way down the line

  • Aw, I thought I was the only brony who would get this reference. So glad I was wrong! :)

  • I had this same thought halfway through the song. Music Man FTW!

  • Sir, you deserve a 76 Trombone salute.

  • Y'know, you could easily set the entire story of the Music Man in Ponyville and very little would have to change.

  • Well, either you're closing your eyes to a situation you do not wish to acknowledge, or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated by the presence of a cider press in your community.

Why sure I'm a cider drinker, certainly miighty proud to say I'm always mighty proud to say it. I consider that the hours I spend with a mug in my hoof are golden! Help you cultivate horse sense and a cool head and a keen eye.

  • its on EQD

  • TIL ponies hate pool.

  • performed in music man in 2001 :)

  • THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT WHEN I SAW THESE TWO.

  • With A Capital T Which Rhymes With P, C, and B which stand for Ponies, Cider and Bronies, Respectively!

  • Ya got Trouble, with a capital T, which rhymes with C, which stands for Cider!

  • fun fact: many MLP songs have been direct homages/parodies of songs from Broadway musicals.

Art of the Dress: Putting It Together (Sunday in the Park WIth George)

At the Gala: Ever After (Into the Woods)

Cutie Mark Crusaders Song: Fame (Fame)

Find A Pet: some people have said it sounds like "Little Priest" from Sweeney Todd, though I personally don't really hear it.

If you don't know the originals, look them up, you will see what I mean.

  • Comment removed

  • @raimisj

Actually, according to TV Tropes, "Find a Pet" was inspired by the Doctor Dolittle song "Fabulous Places" :)

  • @raimisj: The CMC theme song sounds more like a reference to "(I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight".

  • @raimisj Thinking about it now, I assume that Find a Pet is compared to when Mrs. Lovette was giving Sweeney ideas about how people would taste as they were joking on the idea of how the people they would kill would taste. Pretty much Fluttershy was Lovette and RD was Mr. Todd.

  • @raimisj oh wow that's really kewl, never new that.

  • @raimisj I didn't know about "Fame" but it totally makes sense now. Not sure what "Find a Pet" is but now it's going to bug me :/

  • @raimisj Actually, I had Repo: The Genetic Opera flashbacks during Find a Pet.

  • @raimisj Actually, Find A Pet was based off of "Fabulous Places" from Dr. Doolittle.

  • @monkys4ever Nah, Music Mare

  • @amiscribe one problem they're both male ponies and it's the Music MAN and a mare is a female horse but i like you're thought good sir as i like monkys4ever's thought as well don't know a good word for a male pony that starts with M

  • @fragniz Lol I knew I would get caught by someone on that one. Touche sir. :D

  • @amiscribe But...they aren't mares.

  • @monkys4ever Touche

  • This is the best thing i have seen in a long time.

  • Thank you GOD, someone else made the connection between these two and Harold Hill!

  • You were NOT ALONE my friend.

  • This was flawless.

    Love, Winthrop.

  • Thank you! I wanted to see this from the start I saw this segment

  • Fucking IMMEDIATLY, I thought about this.

  • No, my thoughts automatically went to Harold Hill as well.

  • Music Man has got to be one of my favorite plays of all time! I was thinking the same thing when I saw that episode!

  • Music Mane?

  • @monkys4ever Music Mare?

  • @monkys4ever I'm going with The Music Mare

  • @monkys4ever

    BULLSEYE!

  • ...

I think I've found a way to show my mom how awesome ponies are

  • So amazingly synched. Great!

  • Thank god you didn't use the crappy Disney version of Music Man.

  • I was in the Music Man last year and died of happiness when I saw the episode.. Then I sent it to my friend who played Harold Hill

  • These are... Identical!

Dammit MLP, stop making awesome references!

  • I was in The Music Man about 5 years ago when I was in high school, and Trouble immediately came to mind when I was watching this episode this morning - hell, just when I saw these two guys they instantly reminded me of Harold Hill.

  • I don't know why people think the new song was based on the monorail song from The Simpsons. This is almost identical!

  • @JorWat25 It was a fair mix of monorail and Ya Got Trouble. The tune was clearly from Ya Got Trouble but Monorail was also similar. Monorail got credit because of the chanting. Mindlessly joining in when there was NO evidence given of why the Monorail was good.

  • All of the culture!

  • helped me cultivate horsesense...

  • I've never seen The Music Man, but I heard these two songs were meant to be similar, and after seeing this, I get it now. Thanks for this.

  • YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

    Hopefully this cultures some people.

  • I'm not familiar with this audio source...

  • @dariendude17 The Music Man

  • Careful. These salesman guys will normally try to scam ya.

  • OMG, I thought I was the only one. I am not alone!!!!! :DDDDDD

  • yes, all of my money, just take it.
