@HateFenians Yes she saw it, it was a male he hit the patio window & landed on the ground stunned then after about 20 seconds he ran away around the pond & into the field next door. Then I let her out after it had gone
She's just lovely, and certainly would've retrieved that pheasant for mum had it stuck around! I have a Springer named "Hendrix"...he's a real nut, lol. There's just something about Springers...and their owners, lol. Thank you for sharing Meg with us!
I have a Springer Spaniel his name is Bobby and he nearly 15 and a half years olds and obs he's not as lively as when he was little but he stills bounces and bounds around like he is 7 or something! Best dog in the whole world! Miss him very much cause im at uni at the mo- 4 weeks to go and I get to spend 3 whole weeks with him :3
@HeartOfPureDarkness wow 15 and a half is a great age, Meg is 9 and a half now and showing no signs of slowing down, I have other videos of her running on the peat bogs near where we live
@myjugsarehuge still have many years with yours then. Be careful when they get older though, mine is collapsing and having fits and other stuff, pretty sure he is nearly deaf and nearly blind- but he is stil trudging on! Cant wait to see him at xmas!!!
one of my springers is about 3 ,1/2 and she is very active she is not over fed brushed everyday and walked every day, whenshe is walked she is brought on a 40 min run of the lead in a few fields meaning jumps and climbs also she goes off and runs more than i walk we think she was having phantom pregnancies if she was,she is now out of it but she still has abit of fat on her and we cannot shift it any ideas?
Springers are easy to take care of and easy to train. sharp as a whip though. you have to constantly occupy body and mind on them as their energy is boundless, and they have a tendency to get them selves in trouble when they try to entertain themselves.
thats also what makes the best best hunting dogs. Fastest spaniels, and are flushers. Give them 30min of hard running with a ball every day and they will be happy.
this appears to be a field springer, as opposed to the show dog or bench springer.
I was wondering, what kind of coat do these guys have, I know it's shorter but what is the texture? Is it soft like a Cocker spaniel? Or wiry? or oily like a Labrador?
She's a full pedigree English Springer Spaniel, we brought her from the UK to Ireland with us. They are used for flushing game birds like pheasants in the field. We've never worked her but her grandparents and great grandparents were all GB Field Trial Champions and Winners. The coat isn't oily or wiry, she has a thick undercoat on the brown pigment. They don't moult much so she has to be clipped 3-4 times a year.
I wish my garden was big like that! I have a Springer called Poppy. She is liver in colour. A gorgeous weird dog. View my videos to see her. I named her after the flower because it blossoms into a beautiful flower as she would a beautiful Springer.
I'll be picking up my springer puppy for my boy and girl (and me!)next weekend and i think meg would be a great name, we've been struggling for a name.
or "squirrels" as in my case although they are few and far between here, just the odd cute red one up the woods. She remembers the grey ones from when we lived in England.
my buster (half springer half dalamtion) just wont swim he doesnt go in water above his chest and even though hes half dalmation hes a pure springer at heart (well his parents were both pedigrees just one dalmation and one springer but hes as bouncy as the best of them hes calmed down alittle now (hes almost 4 now)
What was she after? Our dog tried swimming in her old age, but prompted typically by me swimming out where she couldn't go... It was always humorous to me but I don't think I have any good video, only shot from a long distance, IIRC. I will try to find something of our recently lost Leana, as a memorial to share
she was following the scent of a pheasant, it landed on the patio and she could see it through the window. After it ran off I let her out. She goes outside with our hens & ducks & doesn't chase them !
she never jumps in, she will wade into the river or the sea but she fell into a canal when we lived in England and went right under, I think the memory has stayed with her !
awwwwww we just got one. Our first dog, any tips?

It is a lovely name, short but with a "hard" sound at the start which is all the dog hears really. Have fun with your pup !

I'm English but I've lived in Ireland for 3 and a half years now. Glad you like the garden, it looks much prettier in the summer though.
