The motivation of the likes of Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and their indefatigable propagandists outside of govt (Kristol, Podhoretz, Boot, Will, Friedman, just about everybody on Faux "News") had far less to do with mercantile ambitions than making the region safe for Israel. Ref, The Israel Lobby, Walt + Mearsheimer, and a good recent article by Craig Unger (Vanity Fair) on The Lobby's near-identical attempt to agitate for war against Iran.
Thanks for the video link, very interesting, and something more Americans should hear if another debacle (Iran) is to be prevented. And I'll agree up to a point that greed played a role in Iraq, particularly with companies like Haliburton which traffic in mercenaries/construction and the like, but I think the main driver was NEOcon ideology and Middle East regional politics. Regards.
Have to completely disagree. If you google Stephen Sniegoski oil, the second result should be one of his detailed articles refuting the often-used argument that Iraq was invaded for oil. When you look back many years, back to GHW, there was only one group stridently calling for invasion/occupation the whole time (and democratization-by-force of the Middle East in general) and that was the NEOcons. Ref, "A Clean Break."
yeah but that dude's got a little bit of a point...if iraq's economy is based on oil then whoever runs that country will be able to spend that oil money how they want. i'm totally with ya on pulling out, but i dunno...i think we should just keep troops at home and protect home.
I understand what you are saying about the "International Terrorists" having the oil revenue. But I don't think that will happen either. I think if we get out then the Iraqis will get their shit together eventually and that will included taking the terrorists out. I was just trying to point out that Hatch--and most likely the rest of these criminals--only care about the oil revenue. Everything else is a smokescreen.
yeah no doubt...but i think it's a pretty solid argument that he's got nonetheless...i mean solid enough for lots of americans to buy into. who knows what's iraqs gonna look like after we pull out.
Exactly... no one knows for sure. NO ONE! No one knew what Iraq would look like after we invaded either. The "experts" got it all wrong. I haven't really bought into the concept of international terrorists. I think that is just more lies and fear mongering. There are higher odds of a bolt of lightning killing me than a terrorist killing me.
one interesting thing i heard on PBS is that george bush sr. wrote in his memoir that he didn't go into baghdad during the first war for the very same reasons we see the problems today: ethnic violence. So it's hard to say that they couldn't have seeen this coming.
i definitely agree that the "terrorist threat" is blown up way out of proportion. I think if we just keep to our business at home no one will fuck with us.

Good research. Thanks. Mostly I was reporting what Orin Hatch had said. Maybe he thinks it was for the oil. Thanks again.

I found that guy one night while watching combat footage taken and posted by soldiers/marines... you know... the stuff we'll never see on TV.
Hey... the NEOcons need funds to spread their idealogy.

GW Bush has a strained relationship with GHW Bush. I think he was trying to outdo his dad and didn't even seek his advice.

The sad thing is, this story conveniently has been silent in the media. So sad.

Hatch just blurted the comment out and I bet he regrets it and is hoping no one picks up on it.
